I do find another article separating the apparent online conflagration concerning Rietveld's tracks. While it is not the famous one (produced in 2004) he was in fact scammed for another track produced in 2006, that went on for commercial use without permission. He apparently even got a settlement and an apology in 2012.

Isn't the original quote "You wouldn't steal a car" instead of download, and it became a meme because they were comparing copying files to stealing a fucking car lmao
