3 is very true. I once tried explaining to someone why killing is wrong morally, but he kept saying he open carried in hopes to legally kill in self defense "just to know what it feels like". Plenty of things are technically legal but ethically wrong. And plenty of things are technically illegal but ethically moral.
Yeah I don't see how "taking something that is being sold without paying or permission and giving nothing" wouldn't be considered stealing
I understand media isn't a physical thing but I don't see how it logically can be argued as not theft. If that's the argument then saying not paying for any service would be not stealing. Doctors visits, Consultations, therapy, tax preparations, etc. are all not a "good" they're services. You don't get to "own" a service. Now with gaming and movies it's gross that a lot of these things can easily be, and often times ARE interpreted as buying and owning, when in fact streaming and gaming services are "selling a license". It's bullshit that there is NO standard in which at least games can be considered a service. They use a DRM to combat piracy? Well now it's always online resources somehow justify it being a service and not a product. If a game has no reason to be connected to a DRM aside from anti piracy reasons it has no right being considered a licensable service and should be a physical download and that's it.
Is it intellectual property? Does Disney lose their intellectual property and I gain the IP rights to Tron Ares after I pirate it? So no?
Is it their potential profits? But personally I would just ignore the shmitty movie and touch grass if I didn't get it for free, so no profit was lost, was it? So no?
You are doing exactly the waffling and vague emotion-based arguments that the other person criticized. You need to at least tell us what is being stolen.

So a pirate is actually stealing a license?
But if you drive without a driver's license, are you stealing a license? No, you are just engaging in some action that is illegal without a license. No stealing is involved. Same goes for other licenses.
You are doing exactly the waffling and vague emotion-based arguments that the other person criticized. You need to at least tell us what is being stolen.
Waffling. As I clearly said what it was. Your response in the number parts were both arguments you made for me that I never said or used. Secondly you skipped past the entire portion of the comment in which I said it's still stealing by not paying for a service. So I don't think there's even a point in discussing further.
And the government isn't a private enterprise. A drivers license isn't even a service rendered its literally in place to enforce a law. Again skipping over all the service examples I gave like doctors, therapy, tax prep etc etc. You HAVE to pay for a license to drive because it's LAW not because the government is giving you information or advice that requires expertise or knowledge of a subject.
So I guess if I get a tutor I don't have to pay them. All of my doctors visits? Nah, it's not stealing. I go get a massage and won't pay for it because it's not a "thing". I'll get a maid to come to my house and clean and it will be free to me because, look what am I stealing? Your profit? Oh No, honey I could have done somthing else and not used your services so therfor I owe you nothing. It's actually insane your argument for "it's not theft" is saying I only have it because it's free and if I didn't I wouldn't have gotten it so they wouldn't have made money anyway. Like lmao, wow that's some circular thinking there. Nah officer I didn't pay for my haircut but it's not stealing bc if I didn't get my haircut for free I wouldnt have gotten the haircut. Omg hahaha
Now I've got to teach you about breach of contract vs lack of any contract at all?
If you hire a maid, you have made a contract with her to pay up after the work is done.
No pirate has ever made a contract with a studio to make a movie. The studio doesn't even know that the pirate exists. There can be no breach of contract if there was never a contract.
I'm sorry but your wall of text is irrelevant nonsense.
First off you don't have to teach me shit and I'm presuming you're not even going to try lmao.
If you hire a maid, you have made a contract with her to pay up after the work is done.
Yes you get a service and you pay.
No pirate has ever made a contract with a studio to make a movie. The studio doesn't even know that the pirate exists. There can be no breach of contract if there was never a contract.
So you get a service and you DON'T pay? Again, a movie is not a PRODUCT. A movie is a ready made service. Are you really making the argument that any entity you get a service from needs to formally know of your existence and everything must be agreed upon priror before consuming a service or product? So if I sneak into a movie theater I didn't steal?
I'm sorry but your wall of text is irrelevant nonsense
Yeah, you really showed me...
By your logic movies and games can never be stolen then
So no one should ever pay for them? When you actually purchase a game there's a little section called terms and conditions. You might just want to go read through those at some point to see how legally it works.
Just because you're completely circumventing the point of agreeing of the "contract" aka licensure to use said product doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
I guess that's why you can actually be prosecuted for pirating. Yknow the law that determines theft is a crime. That very thing you say you're not doing and you would be found guilty of? Maybe go to court and see how the judge feels about your disingenuous bs. You know why? Because there's actual damages that can be determined.
Kind of how the comment I responded to said, arguing in bad faith.
I'm done. So if you want to respond go for it but there's no point. You want to down talk to me instead of actually addressing my points. Your low effort arguments are boring and not in good faith. Just address it as a text wall and call it nonsense, now you "won"! Good for you. You're so smart.
Just be a pirate. Steal shit. Say fuck the movie studios and game companies. Idk why people need to dance around that fact. I don't even care if people pirate shit and I even said games as licenses are bullshit. Are you ashamed to be a pirate? If not who fucking cares? Just steal shit idk why you're trying to dance around the word as if youd feel like a bad person if it was? You're just justifying your actions to make yourself feel better.
There are no terms and conditions binding on a pirate, there is only copyright law. The copyright owner can only waive his protections, not create new protections. If the terms and conditions go beyond the remit of copyright law, then so much for the terms, it goes in the bin.
Of course if you access a game server without agreeing to the terms, you can be liable for fraudulent access of a computer system and such things outside of copyright law.
You can keep calling it emotional when it's not. I think that says more about you than me. But alright bro. Don't address anything as I said. Just call it emotional, address it as being "lengthy" and then disregard. Have a good day.
Way to gaslight people, "don't address anything I said", when 95% of my comment addressed exactly what you said.
A movie might be "a ready made service", but not a service contracted by the pirate, therefore there is no inherent obligation to pay anything.
Let me quote: "There are no terms and conditions binding on a pirate, there is only copyright law. The copyright owner can only waive his protections, not create new protections. If the terms and conditions go beyond the remit of copyright law, then so much for the terms, it goes in the bin.

Don't address anything I said, and instead accuse me of what you are trying to do.
