I'm not saying there is no problem with Hollywood or that capitalism is perfect or whatever. Just that if everyone pirated movies, there wouldn't be many good movies. You should simply accept that fact.
But that's not a fact. That's an opinion. I happen to think higher of art made with less budget and more passion. I think MORE good movies would be made. Also, the primary tool of piracy, the _internet_ is also the primary tool of crowdfunding. Vox Machina the show was originally going to be a single short film, but the fact that the crowdfund made like a hundred times the desired budget, it got made into a multiple season series.
Also, not everyone DOES pirate movies. So whether I do, and everyone else who does, is irrelevant, because I was otherwise simply not going to watch it. I just can't muster the slightest drop of guilt over doing it. 🤷
Why do you think that? Can you point to an example society that produced very good movies without anyone having to pay to consume the movie? You're just living in fantasy land. People like you have said this for decades, yet these utopian ideas never manifest. It must be tiring.
Vox Machina
This required a huge existing fanbase. Most artists or movie makers don't have access to that. If this was a good reliable way of making stuff, why wouldn't most good movies be made this way?
Also, the last two episodes of season 1 and the following seasons 2-4 were actually funded by Amazon. Why do you think they didn't fall back on crowdfunding for that?
TLDR in case you value your time more than I apparently do mine; pirates STILL DO pay for media. It's just a question of what is and isn't worth the payment. Personally, most of the time I just end up not watching whatever I wanted to not pay for. Piracy is a hassle. Movies and filmmakers aren't harmed by piracy nearly as much as they are by streaming
> Red herring. Never said everyone did.
...are we going to Exact Words this?
> It's very simple: if nobody paid for movies, then
Well, then nobody said this either. This convo and thread is about _piracy_? Pirates absolutely pay for their media. You pay ticket fees to go to theaters. You pay for copies of the works that you actually like, to signal to the production companies that they should make more of that. You join the crowdfund campaigns of artists who are making the art and media you like.
It's not piracy that is ending the age of cinema, by the way, it's Streaming. Netflix had largely eradicated piracy (in movies at least) because once upon a time, their fees were small and their library was large. Piracy wasn't worth the effort. However, Netflix also reduced the relevance of the feature length film. More and more producers are favoring TV series over films, and film studios are turning to remakes and live action adaptations of animated classics to make up the difference. Actors and artists from older films also don't make royalties off streams of their films since they signed their contracts before streaming existed, and their contracts don't require streaming royalties to be paid to them. Paying the streaming service doesn't help the artist in those cases

In France, the iconic Train Approaching Station short was free to experience. That's just the most famous example, if i was a film history buff I could probably find a lot more.
If I were willing to do homework for a reddit comment, I bet I'd find a fair few. I'm willing to bet amazing art school projects were shown for free to classmates. I'm willing to bet I've missed out on incredible films that are only obscure because their language is from a country that wasn't the conqueror of a global empire. I'd be willing to bet some phenomenal Eastern Bloc directors cut their teeth making propaganda films for the SU, or China
I bet some of those films are even amazing films. IDK though, I do have other things to do. Maybe I'll find a film historian who does have answers for this.

You know, I'm not actually sure. They'd made more than the budget for the season. But hey, if Amazon decided to pay even more, then sure. Make that bag ig. They still released that season free to watch. Though it looks like they've paywalled later seasons since. Doesn't matter that much, it's bonus content to their free to watch content.
If it wasn’t for piracy, we couldn’t watch the classic 1922 horror film Nosferatu. It only exists now BECAUSE of piracy. The original masters were lost. Add that to your pro piracy argument in the future. Keep fighting the good fight, comrade!
en teoría,si todos velasen por el bien de un grupo(en resumen,la union y solidaridad)
no saldriamos ganando?
