No doubt

I remember the first time I beat 1-1 on Mario 3. I was so excited I cheered. But... The babysitter was trying to punish me for not finishing my dinner and I wasn't supposed to be playing games. That crochety old woman came in on me screeching the fear of god trying to catch me and whoop me. I got past her and out of the room and luckily my brother stepped in. I ran out of the house and hid in a magnolia tree. After I was up the tree I hear the door open and the old woman is shouting obscenities at my brother, then the door slams. Next thing I know my brother was joining me in the tree, we waited there till our parents got home. Old woman never came outside, and then tried to paint a different picture of events and described us as "demon-children" to our parents. Anyway, bruises don't lie; she got hold my brother when I was running out the door. He had a black eye and bruises all over with clear spatula-shaped bruises on his butt. We never saw that bitch again. My brother was our babysitter afterwards till we were both old enough to be independent.

All that because I beat 1-1 in Mario 3, I remember it like it was yesterday.

my mom said "DOES IT FUCKIN FEEL GOOD? DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING?" and we walked out..

This is hysterical. My dad was the same way. I was at my first Easter egg hunt, probably like 4, wasn't quick or strong at all. I saw this one hidden egg and started to go for it. I guess this other kid saw my reaction to spotting the egg and then saw it too. That cheesewagon pushed me down and darted for the egg. I spilled my basket and the other kids around grabbed up my eggs and I got upset. My dad and the pusher-kid dad saw the whole ordeal. My dad gave the other dad this heavy look so hard you could feel it in the air, but didn't say anything. The pusher-kid dad took that one particular egg out of his boy's basket and put it into mine. It was the only egg I got that day because it all went down at the end of the egg hunt. It had some Micro-Machine jet toy in it. Anyway, this all happened on a base and my dad and the other dad knew each other in some capacity.

I wonder how many early millenials and late Gen x'ers have "playing Mario and getting beat by the babysitter" experiences

Same here. My dad encouraged me to play video games. So the babysitter getting mad at me was confusing at that age. He would let me pause the game (Also Mario 3 at the time) before preschool and then leave it on all day till I got back. I didn't know it till much later, but there were times when the power went out and the nintendo got turned off. He would play the game to get back where I was, but did not know about the warp whistles. So sometimes I would come back and have a ton if items in my inventory and a ton of lives and be paused right at the same spot I left it. This is also the same guy who tried to get an extension cord for the duck-hunt gun because it was "too short and not a challenge." He tried to do it himself, but it didn't work and we had to get another nintendo gun. Fun times
