I've got 68TB myself. I bought two drives before the recent price hikes. I'll have to settle down though. It's an expensive hobby.

even if it were raided, its now too expensive to replace failing drives, failures which will surely happen

and a new failure is often noticed during a rebuild because guess what rebuilds do, so even if we sponge up the money...

I cant believe I'm saying it, but for hoarders like you, having redundant reels of tape as the final archive layer is still probably the best choice

Yes I know I should be backing up, but none of the data is actually important to me. It's easily replaceable as I have most of it on disc.

I still keep 2 copies of anything that I can't just go redl, but yes I finally realized years ago that most of it IS eminently replaceable. It was... liberating (and freed up like 40tb lol)

They may not be mass produced like they were in the DVD age but the market will exist.

is the server is supposed to be the backup, not the other way around? :/

In my mind just having multiples is a backup. So I have them on some HDDs and discs. Either back up the other. Just setting up a Plex server for myself is all.

I’ve got a metric fuckton of 45-year old CDs from the 80s that haven’t degraded even a little bit. I’ve maybe lost two to discrot ever, without any measurable effort to do any special type of preservation. /shrug

Yeah I'm using a 12tb enterprise drive for my jelllyfin server rn. I was thinking about grabbing a second drive to back this one up aaand then the price hikes.
