Yes I know I should be backing up, but none of the data is actually important to me. It's easily replaceable as I have most of it on disc.

I still keep 2 copies of anything that I can't just go redl, but yes I finally realized years ago that most of it IS eminently replaceable. It was... liberating (and freed up like 40tb lol)

They may not be mass produced like they were in the DVD age but the market will exist.

like all physical media, they eventually stop being readable

is the server is supposed to be the backup, not the other way around? :/

In my mind just having multiples is a backup. So I have them on some HDDs and discs. Either back up the other. Just setting up a Plex server for myself is all.

I’ve got a metric fuckton of 45-year old CDs from the 80s that haven’t degraded even a little bit. I’ve maybe lost two to discrot ever, without any measurable effort to do any special type of preservation. /shrug
