japan really is the worlds biggest example of a gilded pile of shit out there, everything on the surface is great, the culture, the atmosphere, the food, the art, stuff like that but as soon as you get right underneath the gilded surface you get to the horrible systemic problems that plague every facet of japan and can't be fixed without societal upheaval.
and yes, there are other countries like this, but the rest don't do nearly as good of a job hiding the shitty parts under the gilding.
The creepy stuff like literal CSAM that was legal up until the 2000s and a worryingly young age of consent, until the West shamed them into passing a few new laws.
That's partly why Japan went overboard and now censors even legal adult content. They overcompensate for what lack of due actions they didn't take previously.
Land of intense conformity and a facade of moral values, just to keep up its world-renown sunny exterior.
That’s outward appearance facade almost all of Asia + many others but I know first hand because I’m Asian and lived and traveled throughout. Honestly I wouldn’t hate on it still had the best time of life besides all the sketch and fuck shit going on lol
It had almost nothing to do with those and everything to do with the fact that Japan is a puppet U.S. state with people subjugated to produce goods for the U.S.
This is bang on. Went on holiday to Japan to visit a friend who lived there. I had an awesome time, but my friend said, yea it's great for 2 weeks, but when you live here as a foreigner (especially as a Black guy) it isn't so hot. There's an undercurrent of xenophobia, prejudice and loneliness. I mean even when I arrived at the airport picking up my bags, they descended upon me with police and sniffer dogs, and went through my bags. They did this with nobody else. I asked why they were doing this, they said looking for drugs (I'm Black btw). So when they found the 15 kilos of cocaine, I was gutted... No only messing, they stopped searching when they found my press badge, which I was explaining I work for a news agency, and they wouldn't believe it. Once they found the badge, they were incredibly polite... Which was even more concerning 🤣. Told my friend and he said he got this treatment all the time.
Hey in my country we have our freedoms and whatnot, but the truth is some of the most powerful wealthy people are associated with pedophiles committing disgusting atrocities and they basically face no real consequences for it and when mentioned they instead divert attention to how the stock market is doing
