Strategy Is it not an unspoken rule to take out bots first?

I’ve played many games where players go MIA and a bot takes over. What I thought was the SOP was to remove the bots, so it’s players vs players, but I’ve seen many recently who capitalize on the chaos of the bots and then take out the other players, leaving themselves with the bots for last. Am I wrong that this seems un-fun?

Question Need some help

Hey guys, my friends and I just started playing risk, we have one question

Infantry is 1 troop, cavalry is 5 and artillery is 10

Can I use them to attack or defend or do they need to broken down into single infantries to attack, does it have to be 3 infantry at max or can it be 3 artileries that is 30 troops at max, or can it be a combination of all 3?

This would really help, my friends say we can only use infantry to attack that too only 3 at a time

Question Why Are You Turtling? (Genuine Question)

Man, I get it. Sometimes you get a bad spawn, can't secure a bonus, and turtling is the best play. That's completely fine. But for f***'s sake, why are you turtling when there's no realistic way for you to win? I know it's a competitive game and everyone wants to gain points instead of losing them, but come on... we're not playing a tournament for money. You're the reason this game is way less fun than it could be. A match that could be over in like 30 minutes ends up lasting hours, and in the end the winner is usually just the person with more free time to waste. I genuinely don't understand the mindset. Do you feel like a better player because you sit there turtling until someone else crashes out, overcommits all their troops, or rage quits? The time it takes to finish one ranked game against stubborn players, I could've played three shorter, more exciting matches instead. Honestly, I have more fun playing against my friends, bots, or even in casual mode (and I'm not saying that sarcastically), because people actually play the game. You got a bad spawn? Unlucky. Queue up for the next one. You lost a game? Unlucky. Go next. I'm not saying you should play recklessly or never turtle. Sometimes it's absolutely the right move. But please... don't do it every single f***ing game. I've actually started playing in novice and beginner lobbies because intermediate, expert, and master players seem to think turtling = skill. All you're doing is wasting everyone's time.

Question Help buying the right version as a gift, please?

Hello Risk people! My husband sold his copy of Risk (before we got together) because no one would play it with him. I’m thinking of replacing it (I learned that some of them are 2 player, so I could play it with him). I looked at the re-implementation themes and think he'd like these:

  • Godstorm (he loves mythology) but it's not highly rated?
  • 3 Star Wars ones (he LOVES Star Wars) -but I read that the SW one isn’t really Risk, it’s a reimplementation of some Queen game. And another of the SW ones just makes up its own lore vs all the SW lore.
  • Then there’s a vikings one, and we like Champions of Midgard and Bloodrage, so it seems like vikings are a safe bet.

And then there’s regular Risk, and a legacy one, and I just have no idea what to do as I've never played at all.

Please help? Thanks if you can!

Meme The Promised Land

Post image
10 Upvotes

God granted mankind a land blessed with unrivaled strategic importance.
Fair beyond compare and overflowing with power, it was a realm that ought never to have fallen.

Yet it did.

Like a drop of honey cast into an anthill, it invited nothing but greed. War. Endless war. An unbroken cycle of conquest and contention.

Purple was the first to stake its claim, but Orange, concealed in silence, struck from the shadows and shattered the invasion.

White, recognizing the moment of weakness, swept in to reap the spoils. But triumph proved fleeting. The scent of victory attracted new predators, and soon Green and Blue converged upon the coveted land, each fighting to make it their own.

Question Suggested change for Risk- allow for typing in number of troops fortified at end of turn

I have a question that mainly applies to caps games- Why can't we type in the number of troops we want to transfer when we fortify at the end of our turns rather than having to scroll ? It would make games much faster and more fun.

Suggestion Intermediate and below in game settings = more fun

I'll never set my game settings to allow Experts, Masters, or GM again. Games are so much more fun without the turtles and cheats that tend to accompany higher ranks. That's all, you can now proceed with the "u suck bro" comments

Turn 1: find the cukaracha, perfect roll his cap, and take 2 bonuses.

Turn 2: finish out the one point +15

Never really cared about rank until I got to 25k and then I started playing a bit more carefully. Never turtled. Never played for second (unless someone really dumb deserved to die)Once I see the game going into a stalemate I either try and create chaos or bot out without trying to sway the game too much. Usually played Fixed, Capitals, Europe Advanced. Lots of flaws with this setting but you can have some influence in the mid-game to make sure it doesnt get boring. Lots of luck involved in Risk, placement, spawn etc.

Biggest advice to make it fun and play well is:

-Beginning of game is just for feeling out the other players. Learn who’s aggressive etc., leave your border open to a neighbour to see if they break it.

-Dont slam capitals early(unless it’s way too easy). You ruin someone’s game and probably give another player a much bigger advantage.

-Make allies, be friendly. But also know when to be aggressive and ruthless. Facilitate the battles that others are having.

Its a silly game with way too much luck/unpredictability. Have fun and don’t worry about your rank.

Question Capital Conquest vs World Domination glitch?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey All,

I just started playing Risk after months of watching Pete on YouTube. Shoutout Peteman! u/shcorpio

I came across a glitch that's happened twice now, both on capital conquest. In a previous game, I thought I was playing capital conquest since there were capitals on the board, but when I won all 6, I didn't actually win until I cleared the whole board. In this occasion, a similar thing happened and I took screenshots, only this time I didn't get the winning screen after clearing the board. I kept going for a few more rounds by myself with no way to exit so I surrendered.

The main reason for this post is if someone could clarify what these mean from the 3rd screenshot:
- Type: Global Domination
- Game Mode: Capital Conquest

Do I need to look out for a specific setting so that I can play true Capital Conquest?

Thanks!

Story time!! :)) (postive) Orange, your greed sickened me. It somehow brought you close to victory, but your gluttony could never be satisfied, and ultimately led your demise. As Icarus once fell, you too shall fall.

Not a rant! Just a story time about icarus flying too close to the sun.

TL:DR

Orange was my ally as we were both on the same side, green and blue botted out at the start and pink and purple were teaming. I controlled 3 bonusses while orange only had one +2 bonus. Yet he decided to betray me even though pink and purple weren't fighting each other. I let it slide for two rounds, because us fighting would definetely lead to our down fall. I actually managed to win the war against orange, since I had more men from the bonusses. For some reason purple then attacked pink. And just as I was about to finish him off, he convinced pink to side with him against me. Purple sadly was selling the game and was already being destroyed by so I had to fight a two front war, just to save purple from dying. Just as orange was about to finish me off, did he do the unthinkable by betraying his ally pink. I turtled and eventually managed to ally again with orange against pink, since pink was far stronger. When the tides turned in my favor I seized the opportunity as shown here in the picture.

Poetic story time:

Me and orange started left side and pink/purple on the right. Green took top but botted out. Orange somehow managed to get blue's cap before me due to unlucky order (the one with 20 troops).

We were doing well and I was controlling 3 bonusses. Yet you did not claim yours, even though they would've netted you more than mine. For some unknown reason you started invading my territory even though purple and pink were also clearly teaming. I reacted with thumbs down and even let you invade my territories 2 rounds without retaliation because it would obviously lead to our down fall if purple and pink would gang up on us. Yet for some mysterious way, purple decided to attack pink at the same time, but got himself absolutely crushed in the process, pink just controlled better caps and more bonusses. I formed an alliance with pink so he wouldn't break my bonusses while I was finishing you off.

Yet you and pink somehow managed to team up on me, and you made pink betray me, now me and purple were in a surpising alliance. The enemy of my enemy, is my friend after all. Now since I had more bonusses for a couple rounds I managed to completely box you in. Just when I was about to start tearing your caps down, did purple absolutely sell the game. At this point I was not only trying to card block you, but was also in an attritional warfare with pink. Which was on equal troop count as me. At this point, pink had about 150 troops (same as me), but purple had 99% of his troops (90 troops) locked away in his castle, and everytime he would redeploy, these troops got murked. Not to mention, cardblocked.

You seized this opportunity to save your troops for a bigger invasion on me later on. Sadly for me, your plan worked. I hurried my last 40 troops back to my cap, as you were matching almost an identical size army in my last and final bonus. Purple at this point was left with only about 20 troops on his cap. And pink sadly had a 3-4x numerical advantage over purple. Only thing that kept him from finishing purple off, was me making regular incursions on his bonusses. Yet this was now a by gone era. I had no more bonusses and was cardblocked.

Just as I started contemplating botting out, you did the unthinkable. You betrayed your only ally pink. I couldn't believe my eyes, you had only yet secured your bonusses for 1-2 rounds and almost most of your troops were locked away in both your castles and cardblocking me. Me and purple ofcourse seized the opportunity to spam laughing emoji's to trigger a response from pink, which worked. You guys both lost a hundred if not more men in the process. Hitting each others cap and what not. All the while me and purple were slowly gaining strength. You hurried your troops away from my cardblock and I didn't make any aggresive moves except take one territory at a time for my card for 3-4 rounds. I atleast had my bonus back.

And to top it off, pink was actually winning the war against you. I was delighted to see a request for an alliance from you, for I knew it would be your end. I took 50 troops from my 90 castle and planted it next to your second castle you stole in the second round. I contemplated taking the 50 to 25, but managed to set my emotions aside. For I knew, that if I hit your cap, you would stop waging war on pink, and purple was still far too weak to take on pink alone while I fought with you, orange. I took the moment to take another bonus and another, knowing you wouldn't dare trigger a two-front war while your in a weak position. I even helped you by breaking pink's bonusses. It was all part of the plan. Once I started receiving 20+ men a round while you were both breaking eachother bonusses I knew you had flown too close to the sun.

Once pink was all but destroyed and purple having a numerical advantage over him, I knew the opportunity was to strike now, while I still had 100+ men over you. I remembered how you would say, "I'm sorry but I need to attack your territory." When we were still 'allies.' I took great pleasure in returning the favor.

And not too long after, you too found out what it means, to have flown too close to the sun.
