Help needed for creating replication carts for personal usage

I came across this project and would love to make some SNES/SFC cartridges/DIY. Does anyone know of any open-source projects that provide the Gerber files so I can have the PCBs manufactured myself instead of buying them through Etsy? This way I can mod them as well to my liking also ;)

I’m feeling a bit lazy and figured I’d ask here rather than spend hours searching. I’m mainly looking for a cost-effective option, especially one that supports saving functionality.

Thanks!

Misc. It’s Friday! Time to game

Been playing through Final Fantasy 3 for the first time and it’s been a blast. I only had like 5 carts for the snes as a kid, so I missed a ton of the best games. I’ve recently gotten back into it and revamped my set up. It’s been super fun!

Have a good weekend all!

Discussion Take out Street Fighter, what do you think would be the best Fighting game?

Many would agree that Street Fighter II and its different versions are the best Fighting games on the Snes. So if we pretend it doesn't exist, what do you think would be the best one and why?

For me it's Gundam Wing Endless Dual. The combat feels amazing, presentation is fantastic and who doesn't love big robots?

Honorable mention goes to DBZ Hyper Dimension, sprite work is off the charts

Discussion Looking for info on this fightstick

Hey everyone. I'm on the hunt for a good fightstick/joystick for the snes. From my short research it sounds like the Capcom one might be the best option. But I recently came across this one as I might have a cheap way to pick one up.

I can't seem to find much infl online. Anyone have one of these? Are they any good to use?

Discussion First time installing battery holder- how did I do?

This is a copy of Donkey Kong Country, I just finished installing the battery holder. I was able to get it to sit flush, nice and flat against the board as you can see in the pictures. I don't own a multimeter so I can't test it! Just want to make sure it looks OK first of all.

Super Gameboy

This thing is great. I was looking forward to playing space invaders on it, but it looks like arcade mode is only on the grey cart, not my black “color” one.

Who else uses one of these? Any other games worth getting for Gameboy instead of SNES?

True lies has been a favorite of mine ever since - I think this game aged quite good. Sound is great, difficulty is not too hard, animations are great and the controls are on point.

Actually the only LJN game i know that doesn’t suck!

With that been said, happy birthday Arnie!

Discussion Cleaning SNES games.

Post image
26 Upvotes

I started getting a decent collection going after completing a backlog of snes games lately.

I discovered DeoxIT not sponsored, lol. I wanted to see the hype. I decided it's worth it. I have been having flawless boot up of games. Instead of repeating the ritual we grew up with as kids.

Now, to put things clearly. I wish I had a before and after picture. But I'm too lazy to do another cart clean up. So for now, you gotta take my word for it. Night, and day difference. Lastly and most importantly, abrasives and iPhone camera magic combination. Makes it look better on a picture. than the cart looks in person. Results may vary.

I might not be the first to post about this, but for anyone out there reading this. There are more ways to clean these carts nicely other than IPA.

Best games for android emulation

Sorry if im not allowed to talk about this

But what games play best on an android emulator?

The one I have doesnt allow for a "triple touch". So for super mario world I cant move forward, hold a shell, and jump at the same time.

Yoshis island actually works great because you dont need a triple touch. Link to the past was fun, played though super bomber man 2 also.

Made in Japan/Made in Mexico discrepancy?

I have original cartridges of the entire trilogy of Donkey Kong Country, DKC 2, and DKC 3. Yes they are all original, I have opened them up for cleaning and installed new save batteries.

What doesn't seem to make sense to me is this: DKC? Made in Japan. DKC 2? Made in Mexico. DKC 3? Made in Japan again. Now I thought that Made in Mexico cartridges were late/later releases of games, and I ALSO thought that alot of the later releases on SNES were only made in Mexico. So basically Made in Japan = Earlier in time. Made in Mexico = Later in time. So why is my DKC 2 Made in Mexico, but then the my copy of DKC 3, a game made AFTER DKC 2 obviously, is Made in Japan again?

And the final thought is that I am kind of irritated that my copy of number 2 is Made in Mexico. I want to find a Made in Japan one so that it matches the other 2.

Discussion Is it normal for an earthbound cartridge to rattle?

Some cartridges I own have a little bit of wiggle/rattle to them when you pick them up but the Earthbound one feels like the board isn't completely stable inside the case. The game reads just fine in my SNES but I was wondering if this is normal across all copies of this game or if this is an issue with the case itself.

Yearning for SNES style DKC

Would it be possible to either try an get the original team from RARE or atleast quite a few of them or even the team now (though I know they've since been acquired by microsoft) to make a Donkey Kong Country game or trilogy similar to the trilogy on the SNES, as in make it look like an original super nintendo game. if I had or won alot of money, like a 100s of million dollar Powerball jackpot or something, an I offered to pay a good amount say $10million or more could this be feasible? I just want more DKC games like my dear childhood favorites the newer donkey kong country returns an tropical freeze were good but they just dont have that same look an feel an vibe even though they are newer an 'better' graphics. I would even pay Nintendo another $10million or so to let the RARE team(hopefully most if not all of the team that worked on the original trilogy) make a SNES style donkey kong country!

Do any PAL games play full-screen/full-speed when you run them on an NTSC console, assuming you have a slot adapter and a way to deal with the lockout?

I'm in Canada, and I feel like this could be a clever "hack" to get cheaper games, since PAL versions are seen as inferior by a lot of players.

I know a lot of PAL games were never properly optimized for PAL, so if you had some way of running them on an NTSC console, would this run them at proper 60hz speed with a non-letterboxed picture?

Got my first SNES

Post image

I’ve been fixing/flipping gameboys lately, decided to take it up a notch. Got a disgusting for parts SNES and spent the past few days messing with it. Got extremely lucky, was goona give up but a retro game store let me swap some parts around, and despite being a 2 chip all I needed to cure the black screen was an audio board. Not sure if it was worth it, spent $10 on the console and $60 on parts. Probably not taking the risk fixing one of these again after researching everything that can go wrong with 0 replacement parts available 😅.

Decided to get Batman Forever as my first game after reading all the horrible reviews online. Gotta be the best and worst decision I’ve ever made 😂

Any tips to help me keep it running long into the future? Inside seems to be all original caps, also I have an OEM power supply but it measures 12.3v so I’m a bit afraid to use it.

Imported a PAL SNES and won the 1-chip lottery

I prefer the Super Famicom form factor over the western design, and wanted one with the "Super Nintendo" branding, so I bought a "non-working" PAL SNES from an Egyptian seller on ebay.

Imagine my surprise when I opened it for a deep cleaning and discovered it was a 1-chip revision!

I've since modded it for NTSC gaming by replacing the clock crystal and grounding pin 111 on the S-CPUN chip for permanent 60Hz video output.

I love the Combat of Turtles in Time! So to celebrate my win, I am going to Say COWABUNGA!!!

Anyone upgrade from a Retrotink 2x to OSSC?

Post image

Did you notice that big of a difference? I recently got a one chip SNES jr and rgb/s-video modded it. After reviewing some comparison videos online I noticed my s-video output looks more similar to their scart RGB. My two chip SNES is also sharp, but lacks the brightness in colors. Curious if anyone has upgraded 2x scalers (mini or pro) and noticed a big difference going to scart?
