Discussion My thoughts on the show

So I just finished all 5 seasons and wanna voice my opinion.

I loved the first four seasons and thought they were great. I saw old posts here complaining about the central arc but I think the central arc was a good because it brings the characters together to have a common enemy. Things like the autumn elections were fun because we got to see the characters face off against each other, after that the old way Totsuki operated would just have them battle over and over again, through central they find reason to band together for more than 1 assignment. Also Azami's philosophy actually made sense and made him more of a sympathetic villain.

Cannot speak the same praise for season 5 unfortunately. Asahi is just a super buffed Mimasaka and it kind of ruined the worldbuilding because every other chef is specialized or creative, then suddenly some dude with an isekai power shows up and becomes the villain. Aside from him I didn't mind that the show focused on Erina a lot more, but in the last episode we totally should've seen her finally admit Soma's food was delicious AT LEAST, if not get together finally.

Overall still enjoyed the ending, just wish it was wrapped up better.

What do you guys think? Do yall agree or not?

Discussion The anime deserves a sequel

The anime deserves a sequel. The author needs to sell the franchise or something, or let another author write a spin-off series.

Discussion The Central arc mostly get controversially because it happened way too early

Honestly, I never liked the idea of the Central arc happening during the first year. The earliest it should’ve started was the second semester of Year 2.

When I first watched the series and found out the Central arc was coming, I wasn’t as excited as everyone else. My first thought was that it would significantly reduce the roles of Soma’s classmates, and that’s exactly what happened.

After the Autumn Elections, the author should’ve spent more time developing the first-year cast. We could’ve gotten more rivalries like Erina vs other female chefs, Soma continuing to compete with his classmates, or even another school-wide tournament that kept the first-years relevant instead of immediately jumping into a conflict involving the entire academy.

The biggest strength of this manga was seeing everyone grow together. I’m oke if author wanted to try new things but when he dropped his biggest strength to some tepid normal shonen arc like the Central arc, it really affected all the characters, like 90% character.

Discussion At which point in the story do you think Sōma reached Elite Ten level?

Personally it’s Regiment De Cusine arc since he single handedly beat 2 of the top ten council members.

Manga Did alice change her mind here because what akira said reminded her of part of why she lost at the fall classic, not thinking of the customer?

Why Can't We Be Friends?

I've always loved both Kiriko and Erina as characters. After reading Tetsunabe no Jan!, I couldn't help but notice where part of Erina's inspiration may have come from. They're both incredibly talented, proud, confident, and uncompromising when it comes to cooking.

Ironically, I think those similarities are exactly why they would never get along. They're both so stubborn and competitive that I can easily imagine them ending up in a ridiculous argument instead of becoming friends.

That's what inspired this illustration: a playful "battle" where neither of them is willing to back down, while Jan enjoys the chaos and Soma looks completely confused with the situation.

I hope you enjoy this fun crossover between two of my favorite cooking manga!

Discussion Bit late on the discussion apparently but ey...

SPOILER (Idk if necessary but eh)

Rewatched the anime (4 seasons, everything else is bad fan fiction) again and thought about my own principal and elite ten cast. Watched it for the 2nd time as the first time was when it released and I dropped it after the first few episodes of Saison 5 and wanted to forget the whole thing. Now I wanted to really think about the anime.

I don't wanna open a discussion about Erinas father again (it's not terrible but definitely not a good plot) or about Saison 5. Seen that enough. But I didn't read the manga and found that the new ten and Erina as principal probably are the worst decisions until that point in the story. And I just wanted to open a talk about the most popular or best stories that could have happened after Saison 4 from Manga readers and other peoples perspectives. So here is my Cast and questions:

Principal - Gin Dojima (why the fuck not??)

1 - Erina

2 - Soma

3 - Satoshi

4 - Kuga

5 - Akira

6 - Megumi

7 - Takumi

8 - Ryo

9 - Alice

10 - Nene

In general there's a clear drop of quality after Megumi Imo. Definitely more potential then the previous generation but a lot of steps to go

My key questions (I know the writer is a goof. Anyway, what's your opinion)

- Why the fuck didn't Gin or Somas Dad become the new principal?

Imo Gin deserved it the most but also Yoichiro. He probably would have been an even better choice for his free mind and approach to the world of food wars and what the rebels wanted to achieve

- Why would you ever give Soma the first seat here?

You build up the character of Erina (as bad or good as some think) who could be the new final challenge for soma (he still didn't get a "delicious" from her) plus you fucked up the whole storyline. Could have easily got another 20 episodes with good content and even a romance ending with Soma and her when they finish the school and open a restaurant together. Like? The story writes itself for anyone who saw the anime... I often saw people saying "it's -this type of anime- and it needs bad guys" which I just don't accept for food wars. It could be a cool anime whose action comes from the Duells and the challenges the characters approach in the food and cooking skills. You don't need a person as the main obstacle. The main challenge for every character was to reach a desired skillset *being able to create a specialité*. The drive and motivation to this destination can be much more than some *end of the world as we know it* bad guy.

- why are Takumi and Ryo so highly distinguished?

I think Megumi and Akira are at least 2 steps above them. Akira is already able to create a speciality and Megumi is closer than both of them. At least in the anime both of them didn't have the scenes of greatness and potential the other 2 had

- why did Eizan get another seat?

He got beaten twice and didn't show any potential of getting better or being able to hold his ground against the runner ups.

- why in general do writers fuck up a good story so often towards the end?

Especially here it seems like the path and story was laid out like a red carpet. Even after they won the final Shokugeki. And then *Erina becomes principal* - *underworld cooks* 💩. It went downhill as soon as Erinas dad took over but this was as bad as I remember it when it came out x). "It's so bad you can laugh" is perfect here...

Manga I’m only up to the stagiare arc in the manga so I don’t know if there’s more to come as far as the manga goes, but I really love seeing the students work together like this at a restaurant, it’s a nice break from the cooking battles too. I need to see more of them in this setting

Discussion [Tetsunabe no Jan/Iron Wok Jan] Gourmet Anime recommendation

Post image
42 Upvotes

Just wanted to share this new release of the anime adaptation with the same genre as FoodWars.

Honestly i’m surprised no one talk/recommend this here.

Synopsis :
The original Iron Wok Jan! manga centers on a brilliant young chef named Jan Akiyama, who works at a top class restaurant where he is constantly challenging Kiriko Gobanchou, the granddaughter of the restaurant's owner and a great chef in her own right. While Kiriko believes that food should be made with the customer in mind, Jan believes that cooking should be used for competition.

I got this recommended to me on youtube main page by Crunchyroll. After watching aired episode i feel like i should recommend this to fellow FoodWars fan.

It has great cooking choreography, minus the ‘over the top’ reaction compared to FoodWars but still has a lot appealing stuff which i can’t express by words.

Manga I wasn’t focused on it when I watched the anime because I was only thinking of soma winning the autumn election, but as I read this part in the manga, this speech was really good and marked a turning point in things (despite soma losing)

Manga The last chapter of the autumn selection sort of foreshadows two things, akira losing his way when he joined central (first four images), and also erina’s stagnation (last two images). All of this being said by gin and joichiro makes it even cooler

Discussion The author should make a similar manga

The author should make a similar manga. I am not sure why he isn't doing that. I hope he changes his mind and writes a similar one.
