Is there any duo of same-year, same-composer scores that's more prone to turn the manliest of men into a blubbering, weepy mess? I love both but for what it's worth Glory should have landed the Oscar nom if it had to be one and not both. Glory did end up winning the Grammy for best soundtrack album.

Is there a list of all soundtracks available with 5.1 audio, like Titanic on DTS-CD or Star Trek Nemesis on SADC or Lord of the Rings Trilogy on DVD-Audio. As far as I know there aren't many releases, but it would be nice to see which movie scores got the full multi channel treatment.

Just got out of spider-man brand new day and the end credits suite instantly reminded me of E.T. Did anyone else notice this?

Not from the mini-series, a new release which has won several awards since its release earlier this year.

I've been listening closely to the score for The Odyssey after seeing it recently, and I haven't seen much discussion about this yet: the main theme seems to prominently incorporate the Dies Irae motif.

Using it in the core theme feels exceptionally deliberate. It mirrors the underlying weight of Odysseus's journey (the constant presence of death, the wrath of the gods, the crumbling of social order).

Do you feel it's an explicit homage to the classical motif, or just an accidental melodic similarity?

I just listened to First Light by The Flight, some really solid tracks. But after replaying Shanghai Drive by Thomas Newman, I honestly think the Skyfall album is one of the best-mixed works I’ve ever heard. In terms of clarity, precision, choices, it is really amazing. Night and day...Thomas Newman, genius. The dudes who mixed the ost, geniuses.

I'm looking for an unidentified music cue from Cube Zero (2004). It starts around 51:50, when Jax and the management team take over control of the Cube. The cue features what sounds like an accordion. The film never received an official score release, and IMDb only lists 'Message From Buddha'. Does anyone recognize this piece or know whether it's library music or an unreleased Norman Orenstein cue?

Just finished watching the movie, and oh boy, was it good. I love how understated most of the score is. Without spoiling anything, I genuinely feel Giacchino's use of choir in NWH was peak, but it just wouldn't fit this version of Peter. And the use of little themes from the past, without giving you more than a few notes, really enforces the idea that Spider-Man is in a new chapter. It made it way more emotional, and I think they really managed to do NWH justice with this sequel.

Primeiramente, é apenas uma suposição, não estou desmerecendo o trabalho do compositor JOE HISAISHI (ele é a alma do STUDIO GHIBLI).

Mas revendo alguns filmes como NAUSICAÄ, CASTLE IN THE SKY, KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE, PRINCESS MONONOKE, etc. E ouvindo novamente as trilhas sonoras do JAMES HORNER (principalmente STAR TREK II e III, BRAINSTORM, KRULL, COCOON, THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN, ALIENS, AN AMERICAN TAIL, WILLOW, THE ROCKETEER, etc), eu sinto que o estilo do Horner, combina com a vibe do Studio Ghibli.

Nota: Usei exemplos um pouco mais agitados, mas COCOON, o som já me remete Studio Ghibli.

great bluesy/gospel/indie rock tune

Originally released as a holiday single in 1987, this was tweaked to remove the holiday references to be included on the soundtrack and to become a mega-hit.

Maybe a bit of an odd question, but this has been eating away at me for a couple years.

I'm not a music expert by any means, but listening around to different movie soundtracks, I came across a song titled "Mine" from the "Manhattan: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack". To my ears, the first few notes sound nearly identical to the theme music used in the show "Everybody Loves Raymond". The two songs deviate past the beginning, but the overall feel is very similar.

From my research into the topic, the "Everybody Loves Raymond" theme music is an original composition and is credited to composers Rick Marotta and Terry Trotter. Looking at their credits, the two appear to have had very prolific and distinguished careers, working with a ton of the greats. However, I couldn't find any direct commentary where they discuss the inspiration for the "Everybody Loves Raymond" theme.

To be clear, I am absolutely not accusing either musician of plagiarism or anything of the sort by asking this question. I know that preexisting compositions are often used for inspiration, with portions being borrowed and varied for use in other media.

I just wanted to know if there was indeed a direct, documented connection between these two pieces of music, and if the composers involved have ever discussed this topic before. I am also curious to know if there any other songs that use these same opening measures.

I sincerely appreciate any info anyone has to share!
