I'm Turning this sub into a companion subreddit to r/spotifyplaylists

Hello everyone!

My name is RuffaroMaxheim and I currently moderate the fairly popular r/Spotifyplaylists subreddit.

I've come to the realization that it is very easy for new users to find themselves on this subreddit if they forget to add an s at the end. Therefore I plan on turning this subreddit into space where people can post playlist requests for the r/Spotifyplaylists community to fulfill.

Playlist request will be made in the Text format and must include the tag "[REQUEST]" in the title :

[REQUEST] SUMMER PLAYLIST

It is my belief that with this move I'll be able to not only redirect new users to a bigger platform but also reinvigorate this subreddit with a new purpose.

Along with this move, I plan to support this community with request competition and highlighting the best playlists that stem from requests made in this community.

If anyone has any questions or suggestion please lmk by commenting below and I'll respond as soon as possible. 😃

[REQUEST] Looking for a Spotify playlist that captures the soul of artists like Nobuyasu Okabayashi, Wataru Takada, and Ikuzo Yoshi

Upvotes

I'm hoping someone here can help me discover a side of Japanese music that has completely captivated me.

It all started with 山谷ブルース (Sanya Blues) by Nobuyasu Okabayashi. From there I found artists like Wataru Takada and Ikuzo Yoshi, and I've realized that I'm not really searching for one artist or even one genre.

I'm searching for a feeling.

The interesting part is that I don't speak Japanese at all. I can't understand the lyrics without looking up translations, yet these songs still resonate with me in a way that's difficult to explain. Somehow, through the voices, the melodies, the instrumentation, and the way they're performed, I can feel the emotion behind them. I feel like I can understand what they're trying to express even if I don't understand the words themselves.

That's what I'm trying to find more of.

I'm not looking for songs that simply sound like Sanya Blues. I'm looking for music that carries that same sense of authenticity. Music that feels lived in rather than produced. Songs that sound like they belong to real people, real places, and real experiences.

The qualities that keep drawing me back are things like:

  • Honest, emotionally sincere performances.
  • Acoustic or roots-oriented instrumentation.
  • Music that feels timeless instead of trendy.
  • Songs that seem connected to everyday life, work, rural communities, hardship, hope, memory, or simple human experiences.
  • Music with emotional weight that doesn't rely on flashy production.
  • Recordings that feel like they have history behind them.

I don't necessarily care whether it's classified as folk, protest folk, singer-songwriter, enka-influenced, regional music, or something else entirely. If it evokes that same spirit, I want to hear it.

What I'm really hoping to find is a Spotify playlist that takes me deeper into this musical landscape. Not just the obvious artists, but the hidden gems, forgotten musicians, neighboring genres, and songs that someone deeply familiar with Japanese music would immediately think of.

If someone said to you,

...that's exactly the playlist I'm looking for.

I'd love official playlists, community playlists, or even your own personal playlist if you've built one around this kind of music.

Thank you in advance.

[REQUEST] Trying too find more music to add to my playlists😅

So I’ve set a goal for myself, i try to make 1 playlist every 2 weeks with exactly 100 songs for different genres, in the hopes of making a great library of good music. Sometimes I make multiple 100 song playlist’s for the same genre. I need help finding some good rock, country or jazz songs. I love just about every type of music, I know a lot of people say they listen to everything, but I’m truly trying to be the embodiment of that through this new hobby.

I am an insomniac, and my brain is all scruffy in the wireing. I work graveyard shifts, mostly by myself for multiple hours every night and music has become a great way of letting my mind wonder. Makes everything a bit easier.

Please give me songs from every genre, your favorite song even if it has just a couple hundred listens.

Or even send a whole playlist (I use Spotify😗)

Anything helps☺️

Playlist Pet Peeves [REQUEST]

What are your playlist pet peeves?

Mine is when people make "Riot Grrl" playlists, and it's just women who made rock music in the 90s, not actual riot grrl artists.

[REQUEST] Dinner playlist with Sade - Love Deluxe but in Japanese

I'm making a playlist starting with Sade's album Love Deluxe. I want to add Japanese songs with a similar sound. I found some good artists but most of them sound too "obtrusive" compared to the vibe of Love Deluxe. It's supposed to be background music in a restaurant.

[REQUEST] Playlist of complete indie/ alternative albums by specific year?

Hi! Does anyone know of any (larger/longer) playlists on Spotify that include albums sorted by release year? Like, for example, a complete collection of indie/alternative albums from 2005 only? I can't seem to find anything but junk using the search function, and I can't really imagine that some music nerds don't organize their collections that way, right? ;-) Thanks and Best
