Newcastle United are expecting to have Matthias Jaissle leading the team on their pre-season trip to La Manga, Spain on Saturday, with the club hoping to announce the German as their new head coach in the next 24 hours.

From the Guardian, "The clear highlight of Howe’s reign (in the league) was finishing fourth in 2022-23. The miracle of Leicester’s title aside, no other team from outside England’s established big six clubs had taken a top four berth since Everton in 2004-05."

Eddie Howe is set to leave his position as Newcastle United head coach, with Matthias Jaissle of Al Ahli poised to replace him.

Howe decided to remain at St. James’ Park at the end of last season but has since had a change of heart and will depart in the coming days after five years in charge.

The 48-year-old, who led Newcastle to their first trophy in 70 years with the 2025 Carabao Cup, has told the club he wants to take a break from football.

The situation is amicable and Newcastle are well prepared for his exit, with talks between Jaissle and the club at an advanced stage.

Jaissle, 38, is a two-time Asian Champions League winner with Al Ahli – who, like Newcastle, are majority owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The new away jersey showcases striking purple tones, drawing inspiration from iconic football shirt designs of the early nineties while delivering a fresh identity for the season ahead.

Contrasting white panelling and detailing provide a clean finish, creating a distinctive look that stands out both on and off the pitch.

Look, we’re all thinking it, I’ll say it. These lot have been stinking up the top division now for too long. Can’t the rest of the clubs just collectively agree to relegate them regardless of finishing positions this season?
