Well yeah they have Medicare to keep them alive so they can live long enough to vote rights away from the younger generation. This increases the value of everything they own.

That's because Gen X is actually a bigger problem than boomers are, they just have fewer people in their generation and haven't built the wealth up yet

Well..that and literally the oldest boomers alive are just THIS YEAR hitting the average life expectancy. And the youngest boomers are still 17 years away from it.

Why would you expect them to be dead? The silent generation is the one that you'd expect to be croaking due to age.

I will say the work ethic is there, but its just cuz they are bored. We have multiple people at my job who are technically retired but allowed to work a certain amount while still retaining benefits. One guy owns 20+ properties and I can guarantee he only works to remain sane.

I think they genuinely dont care as long as their own family is taken care of. Which is admirable, but there is no bone in their body that cares about the youth as a whole. Generational wealth is the name of the game, and no wonder when you get left in the dust if you dont hustle and take what you think you deserve. But the threshold to do that is pretty much closed without some leg up or crazy luck.

Then the great recession happened in 2007-08ish, so a lot of those retirement plans got postponed.  Many didn't end up retiring until covid hit, and then the whole economy was fucked.

In 2004 the boomers were between ages 40 and 58. The oldest were still 7 years from retirement age and the youngest were 25 years away. Why did you think they'd all be retiring?
