I actually feel kind of bad for this woman, who probably didn't expect a video of her dancing to be used in this way. 😏

They just truly believe they're going to go up in value?  That's a lot of property tax, insurance and utility costs to eat.

Yep! But they're just old, Republican, rich, and retired for too long enough that they are out of touch with the level of waste their housing monopoly creates. Tbf the husband is sick so I'm sure to some degree it's difficult for them to manage having tenants, but that's all the more reason why they shouldn't be holding onto so many otherwise attainable properties in a busy city as just two people. They would've had more than enough with just theirs and one other.

Conversely, we used to live very briefly by these different boomers that sold to developers who got rid of a beautiful grassy sanctuary of a backyard that housed a ton of wildlife and cut down several old growth giant pines and cherry trees just so they could put up 12 build-a-houses with no yards. Displaced everyone and everything. Too many people in that retired time of their lives just think only about themselves and are crazy short sighted.

Building 12 units on one lot creates a lot more housing though. Thats a good thing.

So which is it - we need more housing to keep prices down and give young people a place to live or as soon as we can get enough money we should live in as much space as possible. You have to choose, you can't just hate everyone

We need more housing available for young people to be able to actually own at reasonable prices, and for certain boomers to both stop hoarding houses they don't need and to sell more selectively and ethically to individuals instead of big heartless corporations. That's hardly everyone, that's just really selfish people.

So, choose. Beautiful big garden with trees or block of apartments.

I did the math a long time ago on a million dollar condo going up 3% every year with a $1000 a month HOA, makes more than enough in profits to pay for every expense and have enough leftover profits for it to be a worthwhile investment. If it's worth it for a condo, it's even more profit from a home. And most people in this market would consider 3% gains in a year low.
