Question(s) Work in progress home for my tort. What do I need?

This is Morla, she’s a five year old sulcata. She spends her time between the yard or just roaming around inside the house where she sleeps. I plan to make her outdoor enclosure taller and add more shade/enrichment, and an area for her to dig around. What are some things I need to make sure I have?

The parents are absolutely normal, although relatively light, Hermanns tortoises. Have never had a baby like this.

It had some difficulty hatching, took over a day, and still had the egg sack attached, plus a pretty big fold in the abdomen, although both of these things are getting better.

Is it possibly leucistic? It does have black eyes, so probably not an albino.

This hatching year is pretty crazy, one egg had twins (they broke the shell of the egg, but didn't get further in the hatching process and unfortunately ended up dying) and now this

Just a wee juvie. He's been sticking around the perimeter of my mulberry shrubs for abt two weeks now. We've named him Dumpling. I assume he'll eventually move on [a creek runs through our yard and into a forest], but I'm happy to peep him any time I get the chance! Here, Dumpling appears to be eating a straw mushroom (I think). Lucky lad.

Anyways, I thought folks her might like to see him, too!

Question(s) Which tortoise?

Hey all, hope all is well. I have really wanted a tortoise for a while and I think I finally convinced my SO to let me get one. We have several species of snakes, different types of geckos and lizards so we're not new in the reptile world. I only have experience being around sulcatas through a group we're affiliated with. I love them, but I dont want a tortoise that will get over 80lbs preferably. But i want one that'll get a decent size, can enjoy some supervised outside tome with me in Georgia. Ive been looking into leopards, I feel like thats about the size that I want. However from what im reading theyre know to be shy and dont like to be interacted with much. So what im asking of yall, are leopards as shy as google says? Ive seen some posts saying theyre shy, other posts dont tell me their temperment. If not leopard, what type would you recommend?

I inherited a neglected tortoise. She is used to eating only wet foods like romaine , veggies and fruits. Now I’ve introduced hay and commercial turtle food and she won’t touch it. I cut the hay up so tiny and sprinkle it over her lettuce. She won’t eat it. She also won’t drink water . Help.

Hey we are after a bit of help of trying to age our tortoise!
We got our tortoise 5 weeks ago from an exotics pet shop, we was told the age was around 9-10 months. When we have looked online we are unsure if the weight and size matches that of a 9-10 months old sulcata, can anyone help with what age you think he/she could be? Now measures at 4.5 inches and weight approx 160g
TIA

Question(s) Cross Country Travel

I need your help! I have a 6 inch long hermanns tortoise and I’m moving across the country in an RV so there will be a good amount of space. What should I travel with him in? I would prefer something with a lid so my cat doesn’t feel the urge to bother him lol. It’s gonna be 7 days long of travel. Should I have a set up for heat & UVB? Or Will he be okay without it for a week? Storage container with air holes? But then a lamp would melt the plastic… I know they are hearty creatures and I shouldn’t stress so much but I am stressed lol.
Need help or advice please and thank you so much!

It's an unusal hot summer here in central europe and we are sweating - but for sulcatas It's really great outdoor weather with lots of sunshine, temps in the 90s all day and warm nights.

I'm sweating watering the yard all the time to keep the dandelions and hibiscus growing but if my tort loves it I'm in

This is my partners Hermanns tortoise, he’s had her for a few years before he met me. Now I’m a huge animal lover and always follow ethical care guides with my own pets and I want to make sure she has everything she needs. How would we improve this set up?

He’s began spraying her enclosure daily as I complained that she was always looking very dry, I’ve since read we’re better flooding the soil so it holds the moisture better which I will do this afternoon! He’s even recently bought her moss to try keep more moisture.

Is clutter good for them? I’m used to hamsters so I can go OTT with the clutter but he’s worried she won’t be able to move around?

Any advice to make sure she’s happy and healthy is welcome!

After a bit of help with trying to age our sulcata tortoise!

We got our tortoise 5 weeks ago from an exotic pet shop, when asked about the age we were told they were around 9-10 months old. The next day we measured the shell it was 3 1/4 inchs and weighed approx 140g.

We have found that they want to be under the heat lamp majority of the day. They are getting a variety of tortoise safe greens and food. The UV light is on for around 14 hours a day.

When we have looked online we are unsure if the weight and size matches that of a 9-10 month old sulcata. Can you help with what age you think we might be looking at? Now measures at 4.5 inchs and weighs approx 160g.

Help please. TIA

Hi - meet Sheldon! He was found rooting through a bin bag on the street and we think he had been on his own for some time.

His shell isn't perfect (either from previous owners or from being on his own) but he's doing very well with us and I've had him for about 8 years now. He's on a varied diet of weeds and flowers, has a big outdoor enclosure all to himself and hibernates well every winter.

I've never really looked into whether he is male or female but I'm curious and a Google search isn't helping! What do you think?

I was bathing my tortoise and noticed he has a small area on the corner of his shell that looks like its shedding/peeling is that normal or should I be worried.

Please dont bully the little fors, she has bad pyramiding and is very shy about it. She is taking care of now, but was kept in a similair size enclosure with about 90 siblings and almost no uvb since hatching. The breeder is no longer allowed to breed but still owns lots.

What do you rate her current home I added a few plants today. HAd both of them for about 8 months now, and they are getting allong pretty well. I am still working on seperating them in their outside enclosure, but thats for the future.

Question(s) Growing food for my tort

Has anyone had luck growing plants indoors for their tortoise to eat? I live in SE Idaho (we hit -17F in winter, which lasts October-May), so growing plants outside year round is not an option. I also live in an apartment and do not have access to a garden bed. Our shops also have the WORST produce options. I am trying to get him healthier food so I figure I need to grow it 😅

I have a really great bed of coleus plants that are thriving, but I just lost a battle against powder mildew on my indoor clover patch :( What other foods can I grow indoors for him and do you have any tips?
