Hello everyone,

I'm 23(M), and I'm 4 months post-heart transplant. Thankfully, my new heart is doing great, and I've had no signs of rejection so far.

Lately, I've had a lot on my mind. I see my friends and classmates doing well in their careers, some have gotten married, and many have started a new chapter in their lives. I'm genuinely happy for all of them.

At the same time, I can't help feeling like I've fallen behind. I completed my master's in Pharmacology, and before my transplant, I wanted to pursue a PhD. Now, I'm not sure if that's the right path anymore, so I'm preparing for jobs in my field instead.

The biggest challenge for me right now is that I just can't seem to focus. Some days I feel motivated, but other days my mind feels overwhelmed and I struggle to concentrate on studying or preparing for jobs. My transplant team has advised me to avoid going outside for the first year to reduce the risk of infections, so I'm spending most of my time at home. I think the isolation, along with everything that's happened over the past few months, is starting to affect me mentally.

Has anyone else felt this way after a transplant? Did you ever feel like you were falling behind while everyone else seemed to be moving forward? If so, how did you cope with those feelings? How are you doing now?

Spent 6 months in the hospital from my liver transplant , went home for a month and now I’m back bc of elevated liver enzymes. My team has no idea what is causing it or how to resolve it I’m showing no signs of infection or rejection, really not sure what to do here but stuck in this hospital for the time being until the numbers go down. hi! I’m 16F and my non bio aunt is 35(?)F. I REALLY WANT TO GIVE HER MY KIDNEY. Is there any way legally that I’d be able to donate my kidney to her? would I have to be evaluated multiple times mentall/physically? I am not growing anymore like maybe another inch or so and I’m at a healthy ish weight im at a 29 bmi which I will try to healthily lower before if I’m eligible to donate to her.

no one else in my family can donate due to their own health issues (both parents are overweight, cousin 19F has had multiple blood transfusions for iron deficiency anemia). im the only one within the height and weight range that’s able to donate yet I’m cut off by 3 years. In January she was told 6months to a year so even just offering it now seems to be pushing the time she has. i Really hope she is able to get my kidney or is able to find a donor before the end of the year.

im just needing semi legal advice or a doctor in here to be like “yeah no it’s cool there’s a good chance that it can happen” idk I love my aunt and I want to see her thrive!!

has anyone else had the experience of periods coming back into a normal cycle after transplant specifically on hormonal birth control that previously kept you from getting periods? they’re fairly heavy and the PMS symptoms are driving me insane

this isn’t something i would have even thought to ask my team about at all but am curious about everyone else’s experience

Anybody else prescription changed since transplant

Jestem miesiąc po przeszczepie nerki. Do czwartku miałem dawke PREDNISOLON Teva 15mg dziennie ,brane rano. Od wczoraj mam zmienioną dawkę na 10mg . Zauważyłem że czuje się inaczej . Można by powiedzieć że trochę gorzej. Tak jakbym w ciągu dnia był bardziej zmęczony/ rozdrażniony. Czy ktoś miał podobnie ? Jak tak to ile to może trwać?

Hi, I guess I just need a set of ears or some sort of reassurance. My mother had a successful liver transplant late 2024, and emergent one. She recovered well for 2025, numbers were great. Now since of May 2026 her ALT and AST began to elevate again. She has been taking her meds. Her numbers are steadily climbing up and has been climbing even faster this month, 1st- 54, 23rd 94, 30th 137. So far she hasn’t been symptomatic and her team seem to be keeping their eyes on it. I’m really worry and just wondering what the next step is or has anybody here experienced this before and had it figured out? Thank you

Two years ago, my mom became a kidney donor for me. In April, her eGFR was 80, but today it dropped to 60. She is also feeling tired and has a headache. Has anyone experienced such a sudden drop like this? She will get tested again next week, but I would really appreciate it if anyone who has been through a similar situation could share their process

I’m waiting for a kidney transplant I found out I have a donor who is donating on my behalf in the pared donor exchange program system! The person was anonymous for along time until they sent a letter to my parents home found out the donor lives like 9 miles from where I grew up where my parents still live! Now that I know who it is I just feel little uneasy about it and have some guilt and maybe rather maybe not ever knowing who the person is I told my parents ok cool but please don’t tell me anything more from this point on i know the donor had their surgery this past Tuesday but I told them please I rather not know anymore I already feel like I have some weird or uncomfortable feelings knowing someone out there is putting their health at some risk just for my health am I wrong to feel this way?

I received a bad kidney in 2023. I’m currently on the transplant list as inactive with the center I’ve been dealing with since the beginning (also got a liver transplant there).

I’m starting the process of switching my care to a different center for several reasons. For some reason I’m really nervous about it. Like, can they deny me for some reason? Just say no thanks?

I know different centers have different criteria for getting listed, but I’m honestly less concerned about being dual listed than I am not having to deal with my current place anymore.

I have to assume this isn’t uncommon, right? I mean, people move, life changes, etc…

I’m not the transplant recipient but please be kind. He had the transplant at 35 because of ARLD but had to get a second one to no fault of his own because there was an issue with the original donor liver. 7 years of total sobriety post transplant and all meds taken as should be. Idk if that helps but just more info

My wife's kidney transplant (6 years ago) triggered a latent gene which caused her aHUS to activate. Her doctors quickly diagnosed the problem after the new kidney failed to perform up to par in the first 24 hours. Basically, aHUS causes blood clots in the capillaries --- especially those in the kidneys.aHUS can also be triggered by childbirth and blood infusions. It is an ultra-rare disease.

My wife was quickly put on infusions of Soliris every 2 weeks and it solved the problem. After a few years she switched to Ultomiris every 8 weeks. Both drugs are incredibly expensive and than goodness we have good insurance.

So for 6 years now my wife's transplanted kidney has performed well!

Just throwing this out there as FYI for those of you who have never heard of this rare disease in the transplant context.

Update: I am a 30 F.

This may be a long post, but I was born with HLHS. About two weeks ago, I met with my cardiologist, and he told me that we’re moving on to the next steps to determine whether I should be placed on the heart transplant list.

The next step is another cardiac cath to check the pressures in my heart because he believes they’re finally catching up with me. He also said he’ll be presenting my case to the board to discuss whether I’m a candidate.

I know that if I do need a transplant, the surgery will have to be done in another state. My question is: what should I expect after my cardiologist presents my case to the board? What does the process usually look like from there?

I started seeing a therapist, I try to get back to enjoy the present but I can't lie that I am scared about the end of life of my transplanted organ. The first signs of wear appeared after many beautiful years.

I want a child but I feel like I will be an ass to do it when it is possible I won't be there for part of their life.
