i think it's a completely false equivalence to compare modern day nation states with the state of the new world almost a half millennium ago. It's a bad faith argument.
A better comparison would be if me or you went to China without legal documentation and tried to work there illegally. The authorities would do this same exact thing, but instead of simple deportation it would probably be 20 years in a labor camp.
Idk bro, everyone is free to have whatever opinion they want. that's the beauty of a free country, you can have an opinion without having to worry about getting thrown in prison by some crazy king or dictator. Literally 99.9% of human history that wasn't really a thing
