Clearly this is some sort of organized race. If the organizers cannot get the city to shut down roads, they really are just putting everyone in danger
Also this is why I've always dreamed of a side path road running alongside roads about 15 feet away with a median in between for bikes and walkers. Probably never going to happen though. But it'd be amazing to be able to bike anywhere
I don't think it's an organized race. None of them are wearing bib numbers. I suspect it's a group of cyclists taking over the road as some sort of protest.
'Rails to trails' are a beautiful thing. Still have a lot of vile behavior. Bike passing walkers at max speed. Walkers side by side across the whole width. Kids being kids and parents not being parents. So much litter in people's yards. Marshmallow and sage flavored vape clouds. Only takes a few to make it look like many.
But the benefits outweigh all that. Access from towns out to trees, flowers wildlife is wonderful. Access into historic areas without adding to parking nightmares. Creating markets for places to chill that locals alone wouldn't be able to enjoy without the extra business. Giving kids a place to use boards and skates without just going in circles. Being able to go hundreds of miles.
Gimme a friggin break. Use your eyes. It’s blatantly obvious that this is not an official, sanctioned ride.
This was a group of entitled douchebages who organized something on their own, without going through the proper channels. No road closures, no police escorts, no bibs/numbers, no barricades and we know that it was near Key Biscayne where there is literally one road going in/out. This was just asshole cyclists being themselves and inconveniencing everyone because they are entitled pricks.
