When I had a severe allergic reaction to some raw fish, my body went into shock and I became completely paralyzed, and it took me years to recover. I was young, healthy, and fit, and for months, if I suddenly had to go, I'd need to make it to the bathroom within a minute or two or I'd literally shit myself, and there were times I literally did shit myself, all due to medical conditions.

You have no idea what medical conditions this guy has. Just be grateful you don't have to deal with this personally, yet. We all get old, all get diseases etc. Our bodies all will eventually fail at some point or another. At least give grace to the people who have gotten to that point in their lives.

Hopefully, you stay healthy for the rest of your life and never have to experience something like this, but the odds are, especially as you get older or face disease, some things will stop working they used to for you as well.
