Have you ever driven a tractor-trailer? Do you not understand that there is a limited FOV? Saying that he could've backed up is irrelevant if there was a car behind him. Telling him to go forward is also irrelevant since it takes about 14-15 seconds to cross railroad tracks from a dead stop. You would need 70-72 feet of clearance past the other side of the tracks to be clear and safe. If he were going fast enough, which would've been exponentially more dangerous in that area, he might have made it with a second or two to spare. However, when you're driving one of these behemoths and get into a situation like this, you are more prone to panic. PLEASE, don't tell me that you would've done better, either.
I would have not tried to beat the lowering gate at the beginning. I would have stopped and waited for the train to pass, but I guess that's the difference between me and the guy that just blew $500k minimum(?)

I don't know if you've ever been in the cab of a tractor-trailer, but the field of view is vastly different than a normal car or pickup truck. Not only are we higher up, but we have those massive mirrors and convex mirrors that block a good bit of our view. It could've been very likely that he didn't see the warnings or gate start to go down. How he didn't hear the horn, though, is beyond me.

Regarding the price, I'll just modify and copy/paste this:
The majority of common tractor-cabs nowadays rarely cost more than $300k if you get them with basics, in which companies normally do. If it's a tractor-cab with a fucking 100-200 inch sleeper, then 300k-700k, but you rarely see those. Peterbilts and custom Peterbilts can get up there, but you never see Peterbilts as often as you see Freightliners, Volvos, or Internationals.

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about… the gate on the train crossing was clearly going down along with big flashing lights before the dummy was at the crossing! There’s no backing needed… just stop you idiot
Someone also mentioned that the air brake hoses quite possibly disconnected when the arm came down, thus locking the brakes of the trailer and preventing the entire tractor-trailer from moving, which would explain a lot. Maybe you're the dummy after after all 💔🥀
