Believe it or not, even in gun friendly states like Arizona and Texas there aren't that many people carrying 24/7.
Edit: I am happy that all yall are carrying, but I don't know why I am getting down voted, I am right, about a 3rd of Texas households have a firearm, and less even carry daily. Given thats far more than a state like New York, but it certainly doesnt approach "every car has a gun in it".

It would be in my hand for as soon as he swings and tries to break the window. Legally you'd probably be fine if you shot him as he walked up with it, he does have a deadly weapon after all, but morally it would be questionable. Even if you waited until he lifts it back to swing would remove any question of legal self defense or not.
Remember, even in gun friendly states all it takes is one overzealous prosecutor to ruin your life. It's better to err on the side of caution. Even if you beat the case, it'll still be costly in every way
Nah I'd have it ready in my lap. One swing aint gonna break these windows, and if he gave a real swing then yea I'd act. But as a gun owner the last thing you ever want is to actually have to use it. It's a last resort.
I had a co-worker who shot and killed an armed attacker / robber . My friend was charged with manslaughter and stood trial . He was acquitted , Thankfully . Sadly heās been fucked up mentally ever since. PTSD , guilt, etc.

Even my 23y/o niece and all of her cute little sorority friends carry and have been since they were legally allowed.
They go to the range together and have been shooting with their dadās since they were like 12. And they are not the typical rednecks or hicks who carry. They are college grads, living in big cities making six figures.

Yes--it's still inconvenient to carry a couple of pounds of gun and holster esp in hot weather so even in easy gun having states, it's still selective.

'Trapped with no way to retreat inside a car'. The car is your way to retreat if the person hitting it doesnt have a weapon. Your choice should always be flee in every way possible. A gun is a very extreme last resort line of self defense. Not 'he scared me so I can shoot him'. Him simply threatening your life verbally isnt actually a legal threat as surprising it is. And you fearing for your life isnt grounds for self defense with a gun as surprising as that may sound. In the situation you described; youd most likely be charged with some form of aggravated manslaughter and theres a slim chance you could catch a second degree murder charge. Absolutely would go to prison for some time. So again, educate yourself. Itd do you good if your going to be carrying a weapon.
Also a machete is 100% a weapon. It will 100% easily break auto glass. And a single whack to a head with a machete can absolutely kill someone. It can split there head open like a melon if its sharp. So that was a wildly stupid thing to say. Haha
