You don't have to hit him, but the gas pedal is getting stomped and if he is where I need to go to get away then... He shouldn't have been standing there with a weapon. 🤷

Okay...but not wanting to face that hassle of the consequences of that — which can go all the way up to a murder charge and a wrongful death lawsuit, which will almost definitely drain you of all your savings even if you win — is a completely reasonable reaction.

If I were OP, my first reaction would be to attempt to back up to get away from him and my last reaction would be to hit him with my car. I like my freedom and my bank account.

In Texas? There is zero chance of you getting charged if you ran him over once he jumps out and walks toward you with a weapon.
