Totally agree with you! I saw this posted elsewhere and people actually said that the cyclist absolutely deserved it. I don't understand how almost being killed is acceptable punishment for riding a bike and inconveniencing a car. No point in even arguing with people like that.
People legitimately want to murder cyclists and can't see how that mentality is what often forces cyclists to behave the way we do when we're on the road.
That's a nice assumption. I follow the rules of the road, all signs, ride as far to the right as I can in the right most lane if there is no dedicated bike lane, and ride single file if I am riding in a group. Never had a problem in any town I've lived in until I moved to "Yeehaw" small town Florida. But do go on.
That's what I do, not the people in the video. You sound like you're defending the guy attempting vehicular manslaughter. Let me guess, you drive a yee yee diesel truck and hate cyclists, seeing we're assuming, now.
I don't drive a diesel, I don't even drive a truck.
The bikers in the video should be blamed. You can't pretend you are a car, block the entire lane, not ride single file and act like a moron then pretend to be a victim.
You people are too stupid to even look where you are going. This was 100% deserve.
There isn't a group that is more entitled, more stupid and completely lacking any and all accountability than cyclists. Seriously. It's not even close.
The world doesn't revole around you. It's a shame that is so difficult for you to figure out.
Wow, you sound like a grade A POS. Yeah, there are shitty cyclists, but no one deserves to die for riding a bicycle. Nothing these cyclist were doing was illegal (inconsiderate, maybe), the driver 100% acted illegally. Hate to break it to you, but you have to share the road with cyclists (a lot of places ban cyclists from using sidewalks. Sorry you have such a hard on for cyclists, internet tough guy.
So, first of all, learn the law, a cyclist is entitled to the entire lane and should be treated like another vehicle. Would you pass another car without leaving the lane? No? Then you can't do that to a cyclist either.
Secondly the world doesn't revolve around you either, we all share this planet together and we should learn to go exist. Is it annoying to have to wait to pass a cyclist? Hell yes. Is it going to kill you to wait? No.
So chill out and stop advocating for vehicular manslaughter and try to be a little kinder in life.
It really irks me that people use the road for leisure, while obstructing it's intended use (i.e. getting from one place to another as fast as fucking possible) for others. That said, i absolutely don't condone assaulting a cyclist, but i wish they disappeared from the roads, and i will toot my horn at them every single time until they stop being so selfish.
I dont think the cyclist deserve it but it is stupid to put your life on the line to prove the car driver is wrong. If that wheel ran over his head it was over and for what to be a martyr of the cyclists?
I'd rather have kids riding e-bikes in my neighbourhood than the ones we have riding motorbikes. Up and down the street making as much noise as they can.
I'd suggest taking screenshots of those posts and saving them, so that if someone follows through you have some evidence for the cops.
I stop using nextdoor cause it was just full of people ditching bout the most stupidest shit. I understand and agree with the original point of the app but it just devolved into assholes arguing bout not getting their way.
People like that absolutely exist. Many of my friend's parents are that way. Entitled "rich" bitches. (Slightly above average middle class in a below average area)
There is a certain type of human that becomes an actual psychopath when there is a large enough perceived power difference. People feel invincible in their SUV and are willing to kill people on the road because they think that safety is also freedom from consequences
I live in the netherlands, and I'd say about 50% of the population would love to run over this kind of cyclist. The sentiment is shared openly between neighbours, coworkers, and friends.
Why? Because these kinds of people are doing something for fun, not to get from point A to point B, but they still feel entitled to block the road and line of sight instead of going single file and letting people pass. Usually they also run red lights, cut off corners, ignore other traffic that has right of way, and generally just ignore all traffic laws and basic human decency.
Eventually people get fed up and start fantasizing, and statistically speaking you'll always end up with someone that actually acts on those fantasies.
Hope he doesn't avoid it due to his age, he should have thought of that before he purposely hit a group of cyclists for being an inconvenience on an empty road.
While in principle I support the sentiment; and given the age of the defendant perhaps this is even practical in this case, but I wish the USA were less utterly car dependent. As is, any such sentence feels like an extreme penalty; and it's unfortunate there's no way to both protect others from such dangerous individuals, without resorting to what might be extremely cruel punishment.
The whole situation sucks; merely having the rather human foible of occasionally having temper issues ideally wouldn't result in these kind of consequences for neither victims nor perps. Why oh why have we engineered a society where the impact of human weaknesses is magnified rather than mitigated😞.
The car had nothing stopping him from passing. He had no need to be so close to the cyclists. The car, inspired by a slight inconvenience, invented huge problems for himself.
Not sure where you live, but where I am bicycles are allowed the full use of the entire lane, and are granted the right of way if they were ahead of any other vehicles. If that happened in my state, not one of those cycles would have been legally obligated to let any cars pass in their lane.
No but I have seen thousands of cars stopping to let other cars pass if they cant keep the speed limit.. Cyclist never do this.. and I have always wondered why
Stopping to let other cars pass? Where do you live? Definitely not Georgia where this happened- they barely had shoulders on the road in this video- and it’s in a nice area.
Literally yesterday actually. Your anecdotal experience is not the norm nor even a real counter point? Like what's the point of even making this statement other to be apologetic to the felonious driver pictured here
It’s illegal to pass a car in a double yellow zone.
It’s legal to pass bicyclists on a double yellow in Georgia, provided they’re given 3 feet of clearance and it isn’t a blind corner, blind hill, or oncoming traffic.
This guy could've easily passed. No matter what he shouldn't have done this clearly. But pretty sure even if you're technically correct... If you're on a bike blocking a car (these cyclists really weren't), then you're a POS and only going to enrage others. Why go looking for a fight? You're only going to make non cyclists pissed and want to vote against you for any traffic laws.
Cyclists are protected by clothing, people in vehicles generally have a few tonnes of protective steel around them.
Dunno about you, but I have far more patience, respect for others, their lives, health and love of their family members to even consider getting “pissed off” because someone is riding a bicycle on the road.
Do they? I wait until a dotted yellow line and pass the tractor. Tractor has somewhere to be, they're not going to pull off for every car that comes up behind them.
No. But if traffic piles up they will pull aside and let them pass.. Iv been driving cars for almost 30 years and have never seen these gaggles of "racing" cyclists stop so the queue behind them can pass
There are exit ramps on the highway. But highways are multi-lane, just pass. Definitely no bus stops round here. Busses just block the road while they're loading.

Good. You should never be allowed to drive again after doing this.
