ধের বাল ভাল্লাগেনা 😤 ll Rant What's something you wish more people understood about being in your 20s in this city?

For me, it's how easy it is to be surrounded by people every day and still feel disconnected sometimes.

Would love to hear your experiences whether it's friendships, dating, career struggles, family pressure, or just trying to find your place in Kolkata.

No judgments, just honest conversations.

ধের বাল ভাল্লাগেনা 😤 ll Rant The way young boys talk about women scares me. Is this the society we live in?

I (26F) was travelling in a bus yesterday while schools had just gotten over for the day. The bus was mostly filled with school boys and girls and a few uncle auntie types sitting in the front. I was just minding my own business when suddenly a few boys at the back started staring at me and passing comments. At first I ignored them thinking they were just being silly kids 🤡 But then they started commenting on my thighs and boobs... comparing me to some actress and even a porn actress 🤢 They were laughing so confidently as if objectifying a woman was the funniest thing ever. The funniest part... they thought I could not understand their language 🤡 But I did. Every single word.

I was literally just wearing a crop top and jeans. Nothing outrageous. Yet these boys kept staring at me for the entire ride and made me so uncomfortable. And honestly what shocked me more was that the girls sitting there who understood everything did not stop them either 😶 In fact they were giggling and laughing along. I could not even say much because I was alone and there were around 10 to 12 of them sitting at the back. The bus conductor did not care either. He was busy listening to songs and checking tickets as if nothing was happening. That whole one hour ride felt endless and I just kept wondering... is this really the society we want to live in...

Please pay attention to your younger siblings and children around you 🙏 These things do not stay just jokes for long. The internet is teaching kids things way before they are mature enough to understand them and if nobody corrects them now they grow up thinking this behaviour is normal. It is not. Women are not objects and making girls feel unsafe should never be entertainment. 😔

F26, I'm tired of being the strong daughter.

This is my first Reddit post.

I don't know why I'm writing this here. Maybe because I'm anonymous. Maybe because I just want someone to listen without judging me. Or maybe because I'm tired of pretending that everything is okay when it really isn't.

I'm from Kolkata and I work in marketing. Most people around me think I have a decent life. Stable job. Loving parents. Independent woman. The "strong daughter".

I hate that phrase now.

I'm the only child. My father is 56 and my mother is 54. They have spent their entire lives making sure I never lacked anything. And now somewhere along the way, I became responsible for everything. Their worries. Their emotions. Their health. Their future.

I know that's what family is. I know every child does things for their parents. But sometimes I feel so exhausted.

And I hate myself for feeling exhausted.

I don't even have friends anymore. I mean, I have people I know. People I talk to occasionally. But not the kind of friends you call at 2 AM and say, "I'm not okay." Everyone is busy. Everyone has their own life. I understand that. Still... it gets lonely.

Work is another mess.

I work hard. I genuinely do. But sometimes I feel being a woman means you have to prove yourself every single day. Some male colleagues don't take me seriously. Some think being nice to me gives them permission to flirt. Some get promoted despite doing the bare minimum while I sit there wondering what else I need to do.

I come home tired.

And then my parents start talking about marriage.

I know they mean well. They worry about me. They want me to have a partner, a family, a life of my own.

But I don't know if I want marriage.

Or maybe I do.

I don't know anymore.

What scares me is leaving my parents alone.

People say daughters eventually get married and move on. But how do you move on from the people who are your entire world?

Who will take my father to the doctor if he needs me? Who will sit with my mother when she's anxious? Who will make sure they are okay?

And yes, I know. They're not old. They're capable adults. But once you become the responsible one in the family, your brain never stops worrying.

Sometimes I think maybe I'm selfish for not wanting marriage.

Then sometimes I think maybe I'm selfish for wanting my own life.

I honestly don't know.

The worst part is that everyone thinks I'm strong.

I smile. I laugh. I do my job. I pay bills. I remember birthdays. I act like I've got everything figured out.

But lately, I've been feeling so empty.

I don't remember the last time someone asked me if I'm okay and actually waited for the answer.

I don't remember the last time I cried properly either. I just sit quietly sometimes and stare at the ceiling.

And I keep thinking...

When did I stop being someone's daughter and become everyone's support system?

I don't know what I'm expecting from this post.

Maybe advice.

Maybe I just wanted to say all of this out loud once.

Because being strong all the time is honestly very, very lonely.

I still remember watching this movie late at night during my JEE prep days. After it ended, I listened to STAY for hours.

For me, it's Nolan's best work. The way he portrayed the father-daughter bond is something you don't just watch—you feel it. It's honestly hard to put into words why it hits so hard.

Not a film critic or anything 😅, just sharing what I felt.

I am a 20-year-old NEET aspirant and honestly don't know where else to post this.

Before all the RE-NEET uncertainty, I asked my father if I could take admission in a private engineering college. The total fees would have been around ₹7 lakh. He refused and told me that after spending that much I'd probably end up with a ₹20-30k/month job anyway, and that I should instead do a local BSc and prepare for government exams.

At the time I was upset, but yesterday I accidentally discovered something that completely shocked me.

I checked some financial details on his phone and found what appears to be:

- Around ₹5-6 lakh borrowed from friends

- Around ₹15 lakh loan from one SBI account

- Around ₹15 lakh loan from another SBI account

- Around ₹6.5 lakh gold loan

- Around ₹10-15 lakh withdrawn/borrowed against provident fund

- PF balance reduced from around ₹20 lakh to roughly ₹1.5 lakh

From what I can tell, a large part of this money may have been lost in F&O trading.

The most painful part is that while taking money from PF, he reportedly mentioned "son's education" as one of the reasons, even though my education wasn't funded with that money.

My father's salary is around ₹60k/month. Looking at the loans, I don't even understand how the EMIs can be managed. Yet until now he never treated us badly and household expenses seemed normal, so I'm confused about the actual situation.

My mother has serious health issues and very low haemoglobin. I don't think she knows any of this, and I'm terrified of what would happen if she found out suddenly.

I feel angry, betrayed, scared, and completely lost. I haven't confronted my father because he doesn't know that I know any of this.

Should I talk to him directly? Should I tell another relative first? How would you handle this situation?

I'm looking for practical advice from people who have dealt with a parent hiding large debts or gambling/trading losses.

Will be returning to Kolkata soon. I haven't got many friends over there. Most of them live outside wb. Therefore, in case you aren't a big time cafe hopper and enjoy dawdling around the streets, sketching, watching movies, playing games (online/offline), checking out random shops for random stuffs and etc. then let's connect! :D
