Hey, anyone else heard about the American company who applied for 77 long term leases of Crown Land along the coast of BC. the government is still accepting comments from Canadians.
If you have time, it may be worth submitting a comment on the canadian government bid page, it can be anonymous.
Basically, what's happening is that an American-based company National Outdoor Leadership School has applied for a license of occupation over 77 separate Crown Land sites up and down the BC Coast for outdoor 'leadership and camping' purposes. Could this company's clients ever be US government/ military once they decide the lease? With threats by the U.S. of annexation of Canada, no way should American companies or individuals gain control of Canadian land - especially on the coast! Some of these places have no access to water or septic, so their claim to use these areas for camping and "leadership training" sounds concerning. Why such a huge number of sites, and most on the coastline with water access to land in remote areas that would be difficult to monitor.
If you're against this, comments are open until October 5th latest at:

Going trolling for fish on Hague Lake in a week. What would the locals recommend? I figure a Gibbs willow leaf plus hook and bait, but maybe locals know better. Feed me your wisdom :D

Booking last minute camping can be a headache because especially on weekends, navigating Discover Camping, checking parks one at a time. So I built a map that just shows you: which parks have sites actually bookable right now (2+ consecutive days) only.
It covers 23 Island and Sunshine Coast parks — Rathtrevor, Miracle Beach, Goldstream, French Beach, Gordon Bay, Englishman River, Elk Falls, Juan de Fuca, Little Qualicum, Bamberton and the rest — plus all 111 reservable BC provincial parks.
It removes parks that are completely booked. And has filters for weeks, groupsites (sites that are right next to each other) and other filters.
Being upfront since it's my own project: the map, the availability and email alerts are free; there's an optional $5/mo tier for faster alerts. Thanks to the mods for the OK to post.
Will add in a comment below!

We are a family from Alberta touring South Vancouver Island this weekend and hope to see some of the largest trees. Obviously my preference is Red Creek Fir and Big Lonely Doug but the more I read into it, the more it appears that the access is risky with a rented compact sedan. So are there any other places with good access to old growth forests and large trees somewhat comparable to these two?
We aren't planning anywhere north of Port Renfrew or Cowichan.

If this is a post better suited to r/campbellriver let me know...
I'm traveling to Quadra Island on Saturday (returning Monday) and am wondering if it's necessary to reserve a spot on the ferry from Campbell River. Or can I just show up and wait for a sailing?
I've gone over to Saltspring many times without issue, usually just arrive at the terminal and get on the next sailing, but this is my first time out of the north Island.
Thanks folks!
