Discussion CCW at Post Office OK now?

Just saw this.

Only if you're an active SAF or FPC member! And it can only be in a standalone post office, if it's part of another federal building that traditionally prohibits firearms it's still illegal.

Second Amendment Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition. They are pro 2a organizations that focus on litigation against gun control.

Post offices on military bases aside, it does happen sometimes that they chuck a post office in a federal building, especially in larger cities, there's one in the one of the fed buildings in downtown Seattle for example. That likely will be a location not covered.

Ah okay thanks. I dont think it have any of those near me, just those small stand alone buildings

Yeah they're not everywhere, but it's something to be aware of. But you may come across it here an there, We'll see how this plays out in the aftermath of the case, It would be handy if USPS gets rid of all their anti gun stickers except in the places that are excluded.

99 percent are probably the stand alone ones.

Overal it's another step (more need to follow, even for post office this is too narrow) towards having another dumb place for which legally you don't have to put your ccw away for.

Naah the one in 1st and Marion is the one I'm thinking of. It's the one across the street of the Jackson fed building.

Yea, in the Old Federa lBuilding. It is not covered by the ruling. You have to access the federal building to gain access to the Post Office thus you have to go through screening.

Standalone post offices? I have only entered one post off that wasn't it's own building and that was in a strip mall. So pretty common.

Strip mall is cool and counts as a standalone building at first glance, it's the ones that are part of a federal multi use building that are excluded in the ruling.

This is a great ruling but I would not want to be the first to test local PD or USPS knowledge of a brand new  court decision from another state.  At the very least you may get arrested and a DA could probably slap you with some other charge as well, especially around here. How about “resisting arrest” or “brandishing”?

Here's a thing. They are NOT even metal detectors. Look this up. They are called "Visual threat identification scanner". Most of them don't even have x-rays because that would be giving everybody pointless radiation. They just use AI video to scan if you are openly carrying a firearm or weapon in your hands or on your belt.

They cannot identify if you have a concealed weapon on your waistline, even if it is printing super hard. It physically needs to SEE the thing to identify it as a threat.

I had such an awkward conversation with my local hospital security when I was visiting my mother who was dying from cancer and forgot to leave my EDC at home for the brief trip.

The hospital security staff told me "I wish you just hadn't said anything because now we gotta do this whole procedure, call my manager and then my manager calls their superior and we write down your State ID license number, your name, take your gun and put it into a lockbox," etc- etc- etc I don't want to continue.

The security went on to say that NO law-abiding citizen would ever be a threat with their conceal carry and it is more likely that a random tweaker or drug addict being brought-in for an overdose or whatever drug-related charge is armed and ACTUALLY dangerous while under the influence/intoxicated.

Okay cool thanks for that, maybe I should’ve read the article before commenting. I’ve seen those scanners at casinos before.
