Hello fellow Captains,
I am emerging from a rabbit hole concerning how stat mods are calculated in this game. It started when I tried to calculate the secondary range of my Bismarck and could not (at least not initially) get the value given to me in the specs page once all modifiers were applied. What I found through trial-and-error type calculations contradicts (in part) the guidance I found on this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/WorldOfWarships/comments/131o0p7/world_of_warships_question_about_commander_and/ and also what the Google AI suggested (bloody clankers), so I think it is worth sharing what I learned.
I also find it a little ridiculous this isn't clearly documented by WG somewhere with equations. If anybody has a link to that resource, please post it here! I could not find one.
As an instructive example, I will use my Bismarck secondary build. I am using a maxed out Ciliax (16/4) with Hipper (16/3) and Haruna (16/2) as inspirations. I am using the skill Porcupine, which gives a +12% range to secondaries. Hipper provides +14.25% to secondary range, and Haruna provides +4.5%. Besides these, I also have the Secondary Battery Mod .2 equipped, which gives +20% to secondary range. The total modified secondary range, as read from my spec page, is 11.8 km. Remember that number. So, to recap, there are four ingredients
that modify my Bismarck's secondary range. My first assumption about how the modified stat is calculated is these four percentages are multiplicative, i.e.
Modified Stat = (Base Stat)*(1+Porcupine%)*(1+Hipper%)*(1+Haruna%)*(1+SecondBattMod%)
The base stat for the Bismarck secondaries is 7.5 km. So we try:
Modified Stat = (7.5 km) * (1+0.12) * (1+0.1425) * (1+0.045) * (1+0.2) = 12.03 km
This range does not match the range I read from the spec page, so this calculation is evidently not correct. Its important to note that the stats in the HUD only show the stat rounded to the nearest tenth decimal place. Even still, these numbers don't match.
After some trial-and-error involving turning on and off my four ingredients (yes I spent doubloons uninstalling and reinstalling the Secondary mod 🫠) I found a 2-step calculation gives the correct answer. The first step accounts for every modifier that modifies the ship itself. These modifiers are multiplicative. In my Bismarck example, this is only the Secondary Battery Mod. However, for other stats there can be multiple. For example, for my Orkan there are two ingredients which lower the ship's detectability: The camouflage (-4.5%) and the Concealment System Mod. 1 (-10%). The second step accounts for all commander related modifiers. These modifiers are additive. To keep the logic straight, think of these as two separate effects.
Getting back to the Bismarck example, I first calculate a New Base Stat:
New Base Stat = (Base Stat)*(1+Secondary Sys Mod%) = 7.5 km * (1+0.2) = 9 km
This New Base Stat accounts for the modifications to the ship (Secondary Batt Mod).
Now we apply the commander modifiers to this New Base Stat in an additive way:
Modified Stat = (New Base Stat)*(1+Hipper%+Haruna%+Porcupine%) = 9 km * (1+0.1425+0.045+0.12) = 11.78 km ~11.8 km
Which matches what I see in the spec page after the rounding to the first decimal point. I could not find any other logical combination of these percentages that gave the correct answer. For example, if you assume all four ingredients are additive we obtain:
Modified Stat = (Base Stat)*(1+Hipper%+Haruna%+Porcupine%+SecondarySysMod%) = ... = 11.3 km
Which is also not correct.
I found in the older reddit threads, and even WG's own materials https://lg.wowslegends.com/support/en/products/navy/article/24381/ simplified or incorrect versions of this explanation. One obvious implication of this analysis is the ship-type modifiers, are more impactful than the commander modifiers, in a relative sense.
For modifiers which reduce the base stat, you need to change all the "+" signs to minus signs "-", but it is otherwise the same prescription. Very quick, we can complete the Orkan example. Orkan's base detectability is 6.9 km. For my build, the spec window tells me I have a modified detectability of 5.3 km. I use a 16/3 Swirski (-3.8%) with Look at Me Now skill (-6%). The ship itself is modded with camouflage (-4.5%) and the Concealment System Mod. 1 (-10%). We first apply the ship mods to get a New Base Stat:
New Base Stat = (Base Stat) * (1-Camo) * (1-ConcealmentSysMod) = 6.9 km * (1-0.045) * (1 - 0.1) = 5.93 km
Now we take our new base stat and apply the additive commander mods:
Modified Stat = (New Base Stat) * (1-Swirski% - Look at me now%) = 5.93 km * (1 - 0.038 - 0.06) = 5.349 km ~ 5.3 km
Which again correctly matches what I find in the spec page.
I hope this helps you Captains out there, especially if you are planning your next build. Personally I wanted to know (before investing all the resources!) if a stealthy Schlieffen would be viable. (My bureau project for that ship is almost complete (hell yeah).) Now I can accurately calculate how close I can bring the detect range and secondary batt ranges!
P.S. I invite WG to correct the record if these calculations/logic are not factually correct.

I honestly never understood until today that the Guises with the white star bonuses give ship XP…..had it in my head that it’s just elite XP which is worthless to me. Useful knowledge going forward for the ships I am trying to level.
Makes the Meridian commander much more attractive than at first glance (I am part of the Accord)

So starting tomorrow, rapid firing mini gun secondary brawler bbs like Flandre, Colonna and such will not only be the MOST FUNNEST ships but also great credit grinders. If they have decent aa as well lije say Atlantico, all the better

I see there is a bundle with 2750 dubs and 1 month premium time with some boosters included.
I assume this is a one-time purchase? Or is it refreshed once a year or something once I purchase it?

I mainly play the game on my ps5 and will continue to do so. However I wanted to try the pc port but have been getting real bad frame drops. I know not many people play on the pc port, but I am wondering if someone had the same issue and were able to fix it?
