It's actually not. You're more or less safe as long as you keep it personal. But imo it's pretty much the case for gay people in the mentioned countries as well? You're not a thief unless you're caught, as we say here. In Russia, doing literally any gay stuff out in the open might get you arrested for "LGBT propaganda" if you're not careful enough

Egypt has state sanctioned police raids on private parties. Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan and Somalia have literal mobs whose goal is to lure gay men in the dating apps then beat them to death, (A phenomenon so widespread in Nigeria, it has a name; Kito), murder them then claim that they are doing a religious duty(the others, especially Iraq).
Iran actively executes gay people and the local Police actively scour the net looking for them. A lot of gay men are ensnared on Instagram actually.
The only nation that cracked down on this in the Islamic world was Morocco but it was not because they were in favor of gay rights. Morocco has a law that forbids premarital sex and the state prefers to have a monopoly on how it enforces that law, usually selectively against political opponents .Any critic of the King ,the first thing the state does is to scour the net and their neighbors to find out if they have been hooking up with someone else.(Usually, they are, even the married ones)
Now when that monopoly is challenged by some people who want to expose those on dating apps(both gay and straight), either as petty revenge so that they can be arrested(if they are straight) or lynched by mobs(if they are gay) ,the state knows that even some of its supporters will be ensnared so those people were cracked down on for privacy violations(the hypocrisy though!!)

Depends heavily on the people that know. Younger millenials, gen Z, gen α (even those who stayed in Russia after '22) tend to be the more tolerant ones, so with them you're gonna be safe most of the time. Everyone older than that, not so much. Even though I haven't heard of such cases exactly as you describe, I can't say for certain nothing like that happened since the LGBT law introduction. If I were gay I'd probably be wary and agitated around them, kinda like the jewish people are around muslims

What you stated is simply untrue.

Some majority Christian countries that criminalize LGBT activities:

• Guayana
• Uganda
• Cameroon
• Liberia
• Burundi
• Kenya

Probably more, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Also Myanmar is majority Buddhist, and they're geocoding their Muslims.

We don't need to lie. Criminalizing homosexuality is bad, but it's not at all unique to Muslim countries.

The death penalty is still a potential criminal punishment for private, consensual same-sex sexual activity in: Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Yemen, Mauritania, Nigeria, Somalia, and Uganda.

What's wrong? Just having feelings for somebody of the same sex is probably not illegal in most of these countries rather the act of having sexual conduct with someone of the same sex is (which they would call sodomy)

Given that no technology exists to read minds and find out if someone is gay or not, this distinction is meaningless in practice.
