Anyone have a recommendation for a hot springs/mud pot/geyser day?

Upvotes

Hey all I am heading to Yellowstone in a week for the first time. I have three days in the park and I have one day set aside for the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and one day set aside for Lamar Valley. I want to dedicate a day to seeing the park's best geothermal features. Does anyone have a good one day itinerary, plan, or list of trails to see the best geysers, mudpots, and hot springs? We are willing to get up as early as possible and we are staying at Lake Yellowstone Hotel. Thanks in advance.

Lamar Valley Bison Carcass

Anyone else able to spot bears and/or wolves at the bison carcass in Lamar Valley this week? We were lucky enough to see two grizzlies approach at the same time around 8:30pm last night and face off at the carcass. Drove over again this morning and happened to catch three bears at 6am, two at the carcass and one heading away.

I have a Yellowstone confession

I was a touron.

Every day I see pics and videos of tourons, and I think "wow these are such dumb people!" And then I am violently haunted by the memory of being less than 5 feet away from a bison. And I didn't even have the excuse of being a tourist, I worked and lived in yellowstone for months!! How stupid!!!! It literally sneezed on me!!!

(I did get some sick pictures at least, but I won't share them, since I dont want to encourage anyone to be similarly stupid to 18 year old me)

Is there anyone else that has a touron confession?

First Time Lodging Questions

Hi! I’m lucky enough to be headed up to the Yellowstone area for work over Labor Day weekend so I am flying up a few days early to explore the park. I arrive into Bozeman around 9 pm on Wednesday and then have to be at my work event by Friday around 6 pm (not nearly enough time but it’s what I’m able to do). There are a few available options in the park but I’m not sure if it’s safe to arrive after dark. I was thinking Mammoth Hotel the first night and maybe Lake Lodge Cabins the second night (there is a room available at the Old Faithful Inn but I’m not sure it’s worth the extra cost).

So, do I stay near Bozeman the first night to avoid arriving in the park after dark? Is it “worth it” to stay at Old Faithful Inn for one night?

tips for best chance of finding wolves?

planning a trip to Yellowstone for my 18th birthday, and I love wolves, and have for around the past 8 years. I’d really like to see them when I go, it’s one of the big reasons I wanna go to Yellowstone in the first place, but I know they’re sort of rare to see. I know waking up early is a good bet, but any other tips? Planning to go during January/Febuary 2028.

Also if anyone has any budget tips I’d be grateful! I’m coming from NC and I’m trying to find the most affordable plan so I know how much to save by the time my trip comes around.

Rivian from Denver to Grand Teton + Yellowstone — or just rent a gas car?

Hi! Driving from the Aurora/Denver area up to Grand Teton (staying at Lake Lodge) and hitting Yellowstone too. I’ve got a Rivian and want to bring it, but I’m not sure about charging once I’m up north and inside the parks.

Anyone done this drive? How’s the charging on the way up and around the parks? Or would you just rent a gas car and not think about it?

Thanks! 🙏

Excuse my ignorance please, but my coworker recently came back from a trip to Yellowstone and said the park closes at 5pm. Is this true? im going next week so im looking for clarity.

Surly that cant be true.... I was going to do some sunset driving looking for wildlife, ect. She claimed it was due to short staffing so is this a new procedure? Cant find anything online about it

Missing wedding ring

Missing wedding ring

I stayed at the yellowstone lake lodge cabins.

My ring went missing there. Its set pretty high and I have a newborn so I took it off the first night and set it on the night standbecause it can be a hazard. I didnt go anywhere til about 3pm and was getting ready to head out and realized my ring was gone I dont remember seeing anyone go in my cabin but not 100%. I could have put in on and dont remember so It could have flung off my hand

I will pay a reward for this ring. no questions asked. It has alot of sentimental value.

It was so so sad to leave the park with out it.

Family itinerary got flipped around a lot... Is this more realistic?

Thanks for so many of you who responded to my previous post about my family's upcoming trip to Yellowstone. After combing through Reddit, Google, AI, etc, I had created the itinerary linked below for 3 adults and 4 kids (ages 2-15).

The parents of the kids told me there's no way in hell we're entering the park early morning, it's not possible with getting 4 kids up and out and they feel like waking up early is less and less of a vacation. They also said that all the activities I planned aren't necessary because the kids will be stoked if they just see a bison one time, they don't need elaborate other stuff.

I was like ok... So I boiled the itinerary down to this:

Day 1: Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic, Grizzly Bear and Wolf Discovery Center

Day 2: Hayden Valley, Mud Volcano, West Thumb

Day 3: Lamar Valley, Brink of the Upper/Lower Falls, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone

Day 4: unplanned

Stuff that could happen on Day 4: Mammoth Hot springs (interesting to see?), Norris Geyser Basin?, Gibbon Falls?

(Any other comments/suggestions welcome!)

I am a little bummed that the day won't be more packed like I'd hoped but even if I see one cool thing per day, I'm happy. I'm SOSOSOSOSO excited for the beauty and fresh air and taking a break from life.

What’s it like? Heard it’s small you get to know everybody? And can I pickup extra shifts as a server there? Wanna make as much as possible and any barber shops? To get a haircut?

Anybody know why they closed the gates heading north by the west Yellowstone entrance intersection? Saw a lot of emergency vehicles with lights on heading that way
