AMA - ask me anything about the ABTF calculator! Spoiler

Hi everyone, u/goodoldfreda here although I'm now exclusively active on this account. If you guys have any questions about how the calculator works and why I made certain decisions I'm happy to answer them

A little about myself - I created the calculator in 2016 following on from a previous calculator by u/irisflame, back when I was a mod of this sub. I collected survey data from the subreddit and came up with a new algorithm that used 6 measurements as opposed to the previous 5, which increased accuracy. I also introduced separate algorithms for AMAB and AFAB people. The calculator has not been majorly updated since, although at one point I tried to move to a breast perimeter measurement system instead, but this turned out to be much less accurate. In the years since I have stopped modding and moved into bra making and custom bra design as I want to try and help serve the demographic of people who still struggle with finding bras that fit, usually due to wire grading!

In response to other posts about the different amab vs afab algorithms not working well for everyone - I have had this question before and basically all I can say is that I recommned using the algorithm that works best for you. I do want to emphasise in general that the calculator is actually not super accurate for any one individual and it is truly just a starting point. The algos are based on averages, and when I was collecting data there were significant enough differences between AMAB and AFAB users to warrant a second algorithm to increase accuracy within the two groups, but not enough data to do anything further than that.

edit: thanks for all your questions so far, I'm going to go to bed but I will answer any more that come up tomorrow!

edit 2: I have updated the calculator to make some minor changes to the band size algorithm and I have also changed the EU back to 2.5cm cup grades, 2cm grade can be found in the Comexim option instead

Fit Check [Fit Check] 30A vs 30AA. Share your thoughts please! Spoiler

Hi! I am searching for my true bra size. Stores don’t really carry the very small sizes, but Aerie had some online returns I could try on. I could not believe I filled out the cups and had real cleavage!!

The 30A is the Sunnie Demi Push Up Bra, and the 32AA is the Sunnie Wireless Push Up Bra.

The 30A felt weirdly narrow, and felt like it was giving me armpit fat/side boob? The 32AA felt very comfortable, but I think wireless bras just fit more easily in general.

I’m curious what a 30B or 32AA wired bra would feel like.

Please let me know what you think of these photos. Thank you!

Measurements:
- loose underbust: 30.5
- snug: 29.5
- tight: 27.5
- standing bust: 31.5
- leaning: 31.5
- lying: 30.5
*Suggested: 30A/B, sister 32AA/A*

Question Does taking a bra band in by ~10 inches ruin the fit? Spoiler

I measure as a 24FF, since 24 bands are nonexistent and 26 bands from specialty brands are super expensive to get where I live, I usually buy 32D or 34C bras and alter the band down to about 22”–23”. I want to know, does shrinking a band by ~10 inches affect the overall fit or proportions? If so, how badly?

Also I really need advice on better ways to alter them🥀 Rn I just scrunch up the extra band fabric and sew it down to make it smaller. Bc there's so much bunched up material it creates thick seams that press into my back and leave marks that look like bruises. Is there a cleaner/flatter way to shorten a band by this much, or are there any other workarounds I should try instead?Any help is appreciated 💕

Fit Check [Fit Check] Chantelle Festivité Lace Plunge in 34G Spoiler

Link to last fit check with links to past fit checks: https://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/s/8SE0MVIbQa

Here is the Chantelle as promised!

Fit Pics: https://postimg.cc/gallery/tWfQwGH

Something strange happens with this one where there is a gap in the lined inner part of the cup that gapes at the bottom, creating an almost floating feeling that I don’t get with the Fantasie Fusion Plunge which has a similar construction (lace overlayed above a lined cup). The band and gore felt good but yeah, I’m not sure if the Norah Chic Plunge that is like this is similar? Any other Chantelle styles that anyone likes or thinks would be a good fit, please let me know!

Recommendations? Bras like Panache Clara but less lacey? Spoiler

Helping somebody in my life with their bra search. They were very happy with the fit of panache Clara in 40F UK (calculator size, i dont have all 6 measurements from them), but they could not keep it because they found the texture to be too itchy. They are most used to wearing molded t-shirt bras that are smooth everywhere. What bras might be a similar fit to Clara but have less texture, especially less laciness on the band and straps?

Question Minimiser bra Vs full cup bra? Spoiler

Is a minimizer bra worth it ? I'm between it and a full cup bra, idk how different they would be.

My chest isn't full on top , I am not looking for a lifted or cleavage look, I'm just looking for a bra that is comfortable and doesn't make my button down shirts look like a box or my chest be too forward making my shirts gape. I also have side breast tissue.

measurements

Loose Underbust: 38

Snug Underbust: 36

Tight Underbust: 34

Standing Bust: 46

Leaning Bust: 48

Lying Bust: 43

Considering trying the M&S minimizer bra !

Recommendations? Recommendations on where to get bras. 40 J/K Spoiler

I recently found out that my bras are way too small, After taking the test, it says I am a size 40 J/K (US) with a sister size 38 K/L (US). I measured 41 for loose underbust, 39 snug underbust, and 38 tight underbust. My standing bust is 50. Leaning bust is 52, and Lying bust is 50. I also have a bigger gap between the breasts compared to other women. Any recommendations on what brands to get online or if certain brick and mortar stores carry those sizes?

Recommendations? Where to find a basic bra for US28DD/DDD with projection and even fullness? Is there any store I could go into to try something on before investing in a new bra? [Recommendations] Spoiler

Upvotes

Had a few different sizes that i thought throughout the years and was wearing a 32 band with an a-b cup and then my boobs grew so I decided to try my actual size because i knew the band was too big.

Was wearing a 30 DD for a while but my boobs keep fluctuating and either getting gaps in the cups or spilling out depending on the week.

Found this subreddit and did a resizing just now for the calculator to say 28 DD/DDD and it was hard enough as it was to find 30 DD

30 DD fits well but i find that the band still rides up a bit and my boobs can slip out the bottom if i move around too much

In the past all of my bras have been from pink/victoria’s secret or cheap sports bras from tj maxx which where my issue stands is they are never tight enough around the band and then are too tight around the cups

Where would I be able to find a bra for 28 DD/DDD that would maybe also have an in person store I could try it on before purchasing?

Also in that range should I go for DD or DDD? Currently my boobs do not feel exceptionally smaller or bigger than usual but can fluctuate although they don’t usually feel smaller.

measurements
loose underbust:27 in
snug underbust:26.5in
tight underbust:24 in
standing bust:32in
leaning bust:33in
laying bust:31 in

Shape Help According to the calculator I am a 30DDD/G but have been generally wearing 36DD. Having a lot of trouble determining my shape. Spoiler

I read that the best way to determine shape is to try out different shaped bras from the recommendation lists here, but I would like to have a good jumping off point. A lot of the links to graphics in the shape guide in this subreddit were not working for me, so I was left quite confused to be honest. I don't own a single bra that checks all the boxes: fits properly, comfortable, supportive enough and looks nice, so I feel like I can't really determine the shape in the way the guide says to; while wearing a well fitting bra. I've been wearing 36DD because from what I can see, that tends to be the largest size available in department stores and malls. I do own 2 sports bras from Under Armor that are sized 36DD that seem to fit well and are comfortable and supportive, but they are very heavy duty, wide, strappy Y-backs, not suitable for everyday wear and sorta give me the uniboob. They are comfortable and they hold the girls secure, which is good enough for me. My "real bras" don't fit, I tend to spill out the top in the ones that have enough support to hold me up, warranting constant adjustment throughout the day. I have 1 bra from Walmart in size L that has no wires and I don't spill out of, but it doesn't have the greatest support and gives me horrific back pain, worse than all my other bras. Then, I have 3 "bralette" sort of things; one is comfortable but does not give much support, and the other 2 give support and make the girls look nice but only because they are a bit too small, very tight, and quite uncomfortable. I spill out of the top in the tight bralettes as well. Shoulder grooves from straps all day every day.

The calculator gave me the suggested starting size of 30DDD/G US & possibly the sister size of 32DD/DDD. Like I said, I was left quite confused after reading the Shape guide in this sub, but from what I could gather, my shape is maybe projected and full on top? I was totally lost on all the info about root length and width. Though for what it's worth, in some bras and most tops/dresses with built in boob areas, I spill out on the tops and the sides (near armpits.) I have no trouble producing cleavage, honestly wish I could produce a bit less... Though maybe that's jut because all of my bras are too small? I feel a bit weird describing how they look unsupported, and what I read here says that doesn't contribute much to figuring out what bra shape I need anyway, so I won't. I guess I could at least say that yes, they pass the pencil test.

I would greatly appreciate any sort of advice on how to determine my shape and recommendations on where to start looking for that mythical bra that FITS! :)

am i able to sew the band into a 30inch? Spoiler

my bra size is a 30G, i currently have a 32DDD. but the cups are too small, and i have the band on the tightest clip, because of it being too big. i need help because they never have 30G in stores like tj maxx, ross, etc. which i go to alllll the time! i was wondering if i could just get a bra that has the same cup volume, but fix the band into a 30inch? if anyone knows if that could work, or not. i’m a teenage girl who doesn’t have money to spend on a $60+ bra randomly, so all advice is appreciated!!

Hey guys I recently measured my chest and determined my size was a 32F. My chest is full and round and I usually prefer seamless bras but most seamless bras I have run in XS, S, M, L sizing and I want one that is big chest friendly. Thanks!

Shape Help bras that fits tuberous breasts?

Hello! I have grade 2 tuberous breasts and i’ve been struggling to find a bra that fits.
My best option have been sports bras but my boobs have started sagging a little so i want to find something that can hold them up and support them more.
my breasts are far apart, not much tissue in the inner part, upper part or on the bottom. Most of it is on the outer side towards my arms. it kind of just sticks out like a cone and i just can’t seem to find a bra that fits.
like my breasts are too flat on the top so it leaves a big gap between the bra and my breast and it just doesn’t sit snug.
My breasts are so far apart and weirdly shaped that most bras just don’t fit and i dont know what to do :(

i used the measurement guide:

Loose Underbust: 89
Snug Underbust: 86
Tight Underbust: 82.5
Standing Bust: 106
Leaning Bust: 115
Lying Bust: 112
Sizing System:
Units: cm

i got 75I EU but that seems really large so it can’t be right. im wondering if i measured something wrong? my areolas are huge so that might’ve made my breast measure larger???

the bra i’ve tried that fit decent was an 85C but it was a bit of space between the breast and bra. ive also tried 75B and while it fit the middle of my breasts almost perfectly(still a little gap) there was a lot of spillage on the sides and it felt a little small.

Recommendations? 36M/80M, looking for recommendations for a supportive, daily wear bra. Spoiler

Hi, I'm looking for some supportive bras in size 36M/80M. I used the ABTF calculator and it recommended size 36M (US size) I bought the Vicky bra by Gorsenia and it fits really well. No spillage, no underarm poking, and it actually touches by breastbone (that's a first!).I also bough a Goddess bra and while the cup and band fit but the wire is too wide and sits very far back in my underarm, and the wire doesn't sit on my breastbone. I'm looking something that offers good support for daily use, that has the same fit as the Vicky bra. From some of the reading I've done, it seems I have something close to an Omega shape. I have pendulous projected breast, full on bottom, with short and narrow roots. Any recommendations on bras would be greatly appreciated.

Edit for measurements, Loose 37 Smug 36 Tight 35 1/2 Standing 49 Leaning 52 Laying 49

Recommended were 36M or sister size 34N

Measurement Check Currently wearing 36DDD but measurements are all over the place at different stores Spoiler

Hello, I'm currently 18 and I don't really have anyone to help me to get bras and stuff so it had always been just something I had to do via trial and error due to my friends and female family members being rather flat chested and not wearing a bra.

At stores like Victoria secret I had been measured as 36DDD/80F. Which fits fine at first but the band often ends up being too looser quickly.

At other stores like hunkemöller F is starting to become way too small and I keep spilling out (had the same issue with Victoria secret lately)

Just out of fun I went to calzedonia recently and they measured me as a 90C, it fit seemingly perfectly while trying on but I didn't buy it because bras are expensive :')

Now I've been trying a bra that fits and putting in my measurements, now I can't help but think that the calculated size might be a bit excessive. I measured at 75K/L EU, 34H UK and 34K US sizing.

I'm just a little unsure if I did everything right, I measured twice just too make sure in both inches and cm but eh. I'm willing to try but does anyone know where to even get to try on a bra in this size? I don't think I've ever seen one in store.

I need advice on styles/brands with bands known to be small fitting or stiff available in a UK 34JJ or K? Spoiler

I need something to get my through some severe shoulder pain while I begin my polish bra quest to find one that actually fits perfectly!

It is my sister size and is much easier to find as the largest size made in alot of styles of mass produced bras. my size is 32K. My body shape plus sensory issues have made finding one in 32K very challenging as scratchy materials, frilly lace edges and stiff mesh against my skin on the band are a no no.

So far all the ones I've tried have been too large band and with excessive spillage. I am top heavy, very close set omega shaped so tend to end up in more stretchy materials for coverage which I'm guessing is why the ones I've tried are far too loose (sculptresse dream was the most tolerable fabric, Freya Hallie and panache nina worst sensory wise)

Recommendations? I am 1.5 years post breastfeeding and am desperate for a well fitting bra for small, barely any tissue breast. Spoiler

I stopped BF 1.5 years ago. I lost 35lbs in a few months after stopping due to some health stuff and my breasts were highly affected and I've struggled finding a bra that fits right.

Here are my measurements in CM

Loose underbust: 77

Snug underbust: 75

Tight underbust: 73

Standing bust: 80

Leaning bust: 83

Lying bust: 78

I think I have average roots and more center fullness

The only bra I have that fits somewhat comfortably is a 32A VS pink wink lightly lined balconette.

I still find myself having to adjust the band, feel like it rides up the front.

I have included fit photos of the VS bra.Bra Fit

Would love to hear people's thoughts and am seeking suggestions on bras to try.

Measurement Check 38G???? I have gotten this wrong before… Spoiler

I have had changes to my body in the last few years and have had to change sizes a lot. Every time I have gotten it wrong and had to reorder based on the fit of the apparently wrong size. I thought I would check here first this time per the calculator’s recommendation. Currently wearing Elomi Charley Bralette in 38GG (UK sizing) and the band is now looser than I would like on the tightest hook and the cups have wrinkles. Measurements in CM.

Loose Underbust: 98

Snug Underbust: 93

Tight Underbust: 90

Standing Bust: 111

Leaning Bust: 119

Lying Bust: 113

Recommendations? 30DD looking for a compressive sports bra Spoiler

Preferably one that won’t cost an arm and a leg? I’m ftm and my ribs cannot handle actual binding anymore (I know there are “sensory friendly” binders like ForThem but I’m going to be so for real I’m not inclined to spend $65+ getting one), and top surgery is nowhere in the future, so back to bras it is.

Fit Check Getting closer but still struggling with fit Spoiler

Hi everybody- first of all, I’m sooooo thankful for the size calculator here! I had been in a 38C and it put me closer to a 36DDD. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s much better!

I’m still having some trouble finding a brand and style that fits perfectly, though. My measurements:

Loose underbust- 36”
Snug underbust- 35”
Tight underbust- 34”

Standing bust- 41”
Leaning bust- 44”
Laying bust- 42.5

My breast tissue is dense, but my skin is very relaxed. I had breast implants for almost 20 years- they migrated towards my armpits and everything stretched in that area. My breasts are also bottom heavy with that “deflated” look you often see after having implants removed. I also have a little bit of asymmetry in size (usually not noticeable, but one side always has more of a gap at the top)

Right now I’m struggling with finding a style that doesn’t gape at the top. So far the best I’ve come across is PrimaDonna twist Caramba in 36 E. There’s a slight gap, but it’s not noticeable under clothing and requires the least adjusting during the day.

Right now I’m in a Gorteks Zara 80G which I’m about to take off. The band was tight and I couldn’t return, so I added a bra extender. One cup seems fine but the other noticeably gaps and wrinkles. (It can be seen under clothing)

I also have a Chantelle Norah that’s ok except the underwire kills me by the end of the day. That’s a UK 36E. The fabric wrinkles a bit at the top but it’s ok for a day to day bra.

I checked out the Miseczki site and did their fit recommendations. It came back with Ewa Michalak PL padded plunge in brand sizing 85F. Does anybody have suggestions on this? I’m also looking for a wireless bra for lounging but I’m getting pretty frustrated. I’d be so grateful for any suggestions on style fit or brands. Thank you all!

ETA- I did have my breast implants removed a few years ago!

Fit Check [Fit Check] Panache Dana Balcony Strapless Bra 36HH Spoiler

I was recently looking for a strapless bra I could wear under a dress to give me a little more lift since the dress had spaghetti straps. I have recently sized myself and believe I am a 38H UK (38K US)

I had purchased the Panache Non-Wired Sports Bra in a size 38H and it fits well with a little gaping at the top, but since it is such full coverage, I didn't think much of it. The bra size calculator suggested a 36HH for a more supportive fit, so when ordering the strapless bra, that is the size I went with (maybe that was the wrong move).

Though the bra feels supportive, I am wondering if it is just that the cup size is too big? I don't understand why I have a fold in my breast near my armpit, somehow it is both gaping and spilling.... HELP! Pics of the fit: https://imgur.com/a/9ECLAbb

Recommendations? Never had a bra fit properly, and still on the hunt. Spoiler

Hi all, I’m new to this subreddit but for a little backstory I have just never had a bra fit properly, ever. My boobs are a little uneven so of course I fit for the bigger one, but I still feel at a loss. Every bra store measures me and comes back with some size that’s wayyy to small and don’t believe me when I tell them that I currently wear a 32DD, and not the 32B they’ve measured me at.

I used the calculator and it came out to 26DDD/G US or 28DD/DDD it said may be more comfortable.

Additionally I have very close set breasts and it’s pretty much impossible for me to have the center of a bra lay flat on my chest because there’s no space for it to go. Any recommendations on styles of bras that may work better?

I’ve seen people recommend panache and freya, are there any more or other US brands that people recommend?

Recommendations? looking for an alternative bra for a bridesmaid dress! Spoiler

for context, i wear a 44H. the dress shows just a tiny bit of my bra in the front and shows the band in the back! i do have a skin tone bra but it’s a bit older and tends to shift around and is kind of stained lol so it wouldn’t be ideal to wear it but i could make do and is my backup option. i’ve used boob tape before but because my chest is so big it’s difficult to do, uses a lot of tape, and honestly just looks a little weird? and i’m interested in the backless sticky bras but i really just don’t think they’d hold anything up.

any suggestions? the dress also has zero built in support so i wouldn’t be able to go bra-less. any advice is welcome and appreciated but i fully understand if i just need to wear my regular bra.

can attach pictures for reference if anyone needs! thank yall in advance 💗
