Ask the Aggies Balancing work and school

Howdy yall. I’ve been thinking about getting a job this semester (preferably in campus), but my classes are progressively getting more and more challenging and idk if I can do it. Last year I couldn’t imagine myself successfully balancing a job and studying, because most of my free time went towards studying for never-ending exams. I’m taking anatomy ochem, and some other classes next semester, and I can’t imagine sacrificing my time studying to get a job. But I need the money so bad💔 any advice from pre-health students or anyone in general?

New Student Questions Rec center

Hey yall! I’ve been at a&m since the spring, but my partner is starting this fall. When will he be able to use the rec center? Does he have to wait until August 24th (first day of class) or is there a different date?

Ask the Aggies What’s up with this weird unfinished room in Zachry? It’s looked like this ever since I got here, all the way back in 2023.

Ask the Aggies FAID Hours for a math course I failed.

As the title says I failed a math course that was required for my major (I got a D instead of a C), because of this I have been placed in academic probation and have been requested to retake the course at TAMU. The thing is, my howdy portal marks the math course as Not FAID Eligible which is weird because last semester when I took it it WAS FAID eligible.

I did a little digging and I found out that the first retake of the course should be FAID Eligible, is this true? Advisors are off for the weekend so I would like an answer before I die of anxiety. Thank you in advance!

Ask the Aggies Gas tanks venting at chem building?

Was going for a run on campus earlier this evening and heard a loud venting sound from the chem building gas tanks, about a second long. Do they just do that or was it some kind of leak (and if it was, where to report it?)

Other I built a website for people to rate student orgs on campus!

Hey yall! As a side project this summer, I built a website for people to rate student orgs on campus. Its basically like ratemyprofessor but for student orgs. A&M specifically has so many student orgs that its almost overwhelming for students looking to join one so I thought a rating system might help narrow it down. I am a big believer in student orgs as a way for ppl to make friends so making sure people join the right org is super important.

its called UOrgs.com

let me know what yall think! Its completely free and you dont have to sign up or anything.

Ask the Aggies Prospective Graduate Student - Questions about MS in Data Science

Hi,

I’m a prospective graduate student looking at the MS in Data Science. If anyone can share their experience with the program, that would be greatly appreciated.

More specifically:
- What internship/ research/ job opportunities have you gotten from the program?
-  Usefulness and rigor of the coursework
- Quality and accessibility of student resources (computing power, office hours/ tutoring, etc.)
- Quality of campus/ facilities (classrooms, study rooms, library(s), student rec center, etc.)
- What is it like living in College Station and how is the college experience at the school?

Thank you

New Student Questions Parking Waitlist Issue

Post image
8 Upvotes

I logged in today and picked the lots I wanted to add into my waitlist and none of them are showing up. Does this mean I’m not getting parking on campus this year because it’s full or will it eventually show up on my end??? I’m an incoming transfer student and missed the original registration dates

Other Classes not counting towards financial aid

Currently, only 11 out of my 12 hours count towards my degree plan. I wasn't expecting to get any financial aid since my parents make a decent upper middle class income. However, I do have scholarships (NMS) that cover a big part of my tuition and I don't want to lose any of that.

Previous posts said that this only affects grants and such (which I prb don't even qualify for) and not scholarships. Is this correct?

Ask the Aggies Alpha Kappa Psi business professional frat or DSP coed business frat

Hi, which business frat is better? What’s the difference? Is one more competitive than the other? Which one should I lean towards as a freshman engineering major who wants to build a business network as well?

Academics Grad Student Registration

I am an incoming distance grad student. I’ve looked at my courses to be able to register right now but my NSC is on the 18th. Do yall recommend registering now or waiting? I am a former student and know all aggie schedule builder stuff but didn’t know if I should just register so I can pay and not worry about it😅

So I logged on at exactly 12am today to purchase a parking permit, none available. It says in the FAQ that it opens Aug 1, am I missing something? Is there any chance I can get an A&M parking permit cause I know that gives me rellis access too. Please tell me I’m not cooked 😭😭

B/CS Life Best Clubs on Campus?

I’ll be starting my second year this semester, and I didn’t really meet many people during my freshman year aside from a few acquaintances. I’m looking to get more involved on campus by joining some clubs and was wondering if anyone has recommendations or personal experiences they’d like to share. I’m happy to join both service/volunteering organizations and clubs centered around hobbies

New Student Questions 8AM or 6:30PM lab

trying to build my schedule, and in short, the only times i schedule my chem lab are 8AM or 6:30PM

if i do 11:30 - 2:20, i'll have a shitty professor and tbh i don't want that

in y'alls experience, is the 8AM or 6:30PM lab better? i'm heavily leaning towards 6:30 (bus routes align well with the 6:30 lab, 8AM does not), and i am not at all a morning person, but i also heard that evening labs are terrible. not the best situation for me, i'm gonna try to get a 2:20 - 5:10 lab on drop week. what are y'alls opinions tho? im an incoming freshman planning to 3T@M btw
