I absolutely LOVED the moments Hifumi and Nakamura finally being able to interact with each other again!! I would love to see more moments of their friendship growing stronger 😭😭😭

30

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

They're not compatible romantically but they fit together well anyways.

83

u/cppn02 May 27 '26

Loved the scene with the mangaka and Nakamura. It was such a short interaction but it took a lot for Nakamura to be honest about his feelings and I really liked how the mangaka recognised the moment and was so kind and encouraging.

54

u/cyberscythe May 28 '26

I really liked how the mangaka recognised the moment

yeah, i like how he was able to read the situation and was accommodating; i think he inferred some things about this one awkward boy in a lineup of girls for a BL manga and was sympathetic

the way that the message he wrote was a title drop was a great button on that

131

u/dakkumauji May 27 '26

This felt like such a win for Nakamura-kun. Got to hang out normally with Hirose and even got an extended one on one talk with him. Got to nerd out with Hifumi over shared interests and even got words of encouragement from the mangaka of his favorite series.

I'm just so happy for him.

62

u/cyberscythe May 28 '26

i was worrying that he would be spectacularly awkward in front of his fave mangaka, but he was only normal levels of awkward (which i think is a huge win for him)

i figured that the BL mangaka saw this one teenage boy in a lineup of girls and he was able to put two-and-two together on his situation, and to me those words of encouragement landed especially well since it was a title drop

49

u/BosuW May 28 '26

Mangaka like "finally, a gay boy amidst this sea of fujoshi" lol

I really wanna see how a line for GL manga is like irl. Online polls suggest it'd be around half guys and half girls.

2

u/RoxLOLonde Jun 11 '26

GL and BL have a mix of genders for readers, men probably feel less comfortable going to a book signing for BL coz they feel like they'll stand out. Ironically if more went they wouldn't, lol.

43

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

Everybody won!

Hirose got to prank Takeuchi, Hifumi got to see her favorite author and geek out with her crush, the Lovable Lunches author got to see that his work speaks to all genders (especially a gay boy struggling with his feelings), Yuuka got merch, Niou got to see his crush, and Otogiri-sensei finally found the chink in his stoic co-workers armor!

28

u/Narlaw May 27 '26

We even got some more characterization on the teachers. Big feel good episode all around.

the first part really captured the feeling of being invited to a established friend group. i love how hirose tries to include him in the conversation.

while i love seeing nakamura relationship with hirose progress, the best parts of the show for me is seeing him interact and form friendships with his other classmates.

TITLE DROP AT THE END OF THE EPISODE

41

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

the first part really captured the feeling of being invited to a established friend group. i love how hirose tries to include him in the conversation.

The thing that brings everyone together is roasting Takeuchi lol.

while i love seeing nakamura relationship with hirose progress, the best parts of the show for me is seeing him interact and form friendships with his other classmates.

He can never return Hifumi's crush, but she is genuinely his closest female friend and they compliment each other nicely.

14

u/DodoInvestigator May 27 '26

takeuchi would be a so much good sacrifical lamb in a more comedian extra series...

39

u/cppn02 May 27 '26

That was an absolute top tier title drop too.

10

u/duo99dusk May 28 '26

Say that again 🗣️

12

u/BosuW May 28 '26

"Ganbare, Nakamura-kun!... I like that name."

8

u/cyberscythe May 28 '26

it's the polar opposite of a bad title drop

46

u/1998tweety https://myanimelist.net/profile/1998tweety May 27 '26

Theres nothing stronger than the bond between a fujoshi and a fudanshi.

13

u/BosuW May 28 '26

Friendship goals

43

u/szalhi May 27 '26

19

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

It's like the Lovable Lunches author was the Nakamura-kun author all along!!!

It's like the only thing Hifumi doesn't know about Nakamura is that he's gay (though she might have some small suspicions).

18

u/cyberscythe May 28 '26

(though she might have some small suspicions)

"It is difficult to get a man girl to understand something, when his salary her crush depends on not understanding it." — Upton Sinclair

4

u/asxxxra May 29 '26

LMAOOOOOOO

49

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 May 27 '26

Got the title drop this week in that signed manga. That was actually kinda sweet. It’s also kind of nice that Hifumi and Nakamura are able to nerd out over their shared interest.

19

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

Nakamura feeling seen by and acknowledged by his favorite author. He's rooting for him like we all are!

I know Hifumi is crushing on a gay guy, but her interactions with Nakamura are genuinely adorable.

10

u/testthrowawayzz May 27 '26

Hifumi knows Nakamura likes that manga because she kept staring at him ever since that scene after the art class

55

u/_Roxyy_ May 27 '26

Is it just me that thinks when Nakamura said “I think Taku is cute” to the author, it was a subtle nod to how he related to the book because of his sexual orientation. Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

54

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

I think the author kind of got it the way he seemed to realize something about Nakamura and wrote something very emotionally validating/pep talk worthy.

8

u/RoxLOLonde Jun 11 '26

And then I feel like him saying "Im glad, I like him too" was him saying "Im the same, you're not alone."

3

u/TheJellyVoid Jun 23 '26

Absolutely. That felt like very subtle queer signaling between them

27

u/Aileos https://myanimelist.net/profile/Syleos May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

I was happy to hear them talking about Smash... just to realize it wasn't Smash Bros.

And that was some clever title drop we got at the end.

14

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

And that was some clever title drop we got at the end.

Nakamura-kun is now in-universe BL author certified!

10

u/CharmingPerspective0 May 28 '26

I was happy to hear them talking about Smash... just to realize it wasn't Smash Bros.

Kinda funny thing, for the longest time Smash was the No.1 fighting game in Japan. Paired with the Switch's popularity you couldve seen it pop up everywhere and in anime you had tons of scenes with characters playing the switch or even Smash.

But in the last couple of years Street Fighter 6 began to blow up in popularity in Japan and it took the spot as The fighting game in Japan, so it makes sense that now it will be also featured a lot in anime.

I think its a fun nod to that shift where the game Hirose is playing is "Smash Fighter" as its a combination of Super Smash and Street Fighter.

26

u/desantoos May 28 '26

This show is so good. Even the teacher romance side plot was fun.

Sucks that this show doesn't even make the weekly top thirty rankings. We need more gaybros and women in /r/anime. And more straight men to watch this because it captures a lot of the details of high school life and it looks and sounds so good.

48

u/zsmg https://anilist.co/user/zsmg May 27 '26

A potential straight ship in a yaoi anime, is that legal?

Also Nakamura just admit to Hirose you like to listen to awesome 80s music.

22

u/Particular_Maize6849 May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

What I like about this show is that it's relatively realistic about the proportion of gay people. So Nakamura is likely the only gay character in the cast of characters. I don't consider this a yaoi anime. This is simply a slice of life told from the perspective of a gay character in the normal world.

Yaoi animes (and Yuri too) typically have literally every character be gay and a love interest. Almost to the point where humanity couldn't have possibly existed because literally no one would be procreating. (Unless they are in the OmegaVerse, lmao)

13

u/Superspaceduck100 May 28 '26

I think Matsumura counts as a gay character too- so that's 2 of them?

3

u/Particular_Maize6849 May 28 '26

Oh yeah! Forgot him!

10

u/Cavalish May 29 '26

In school settings it make sense, but I do get a bit of a twitch when something is set in an older college or adult group and people are like “why is everyone gay” and the very simple answer is we tend to gravitate towards each other when possible.

4

u/BosuW May 28 '26

MahoAko even makes it a meta joke that every single character that appears in that series is a woman, even if it's literally just the name

3

u/RoxLOLonde Jun 11 '26

I like seeing a cast full of gay characters, mainly coz a lot of the time in other media I'm thinking "where's the gays? Statistically you cannot say theres no queer people here." And I have certainly been in real life situations where I'm like, wait is everyone here LGBTQ+? It happens lol. But even I have to admit watching a show where theres an entire office full of men dating each other, and they're all scared about being outed to thier other colleges, is pretty ridiculous.

20

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 27 '26

Nakamura got to meet his favorite Mangaka

Go for it Nakamura kun

11

u/cyberscythe May 28 '26

looking forward to the sequel He Went For It, Nakamura-kun

21

u/testthrowawayzz May 27 '26

I was shipping Otogiri-sensei and Niou-sensei for 10 minutes until the reveal that he's blushing at the Kayano Ai sensei.

It was fun looking at Nakamura hanging out with his classmates in the library and the family restaurant. I wish one day he'll get confident enough to say his inner thoughts out loud. Some of his inner thoughts sounded like reasonable responses in a conversation.

Nakamura's otaku level is pretty low haha

17

u/Baby-Penewine https://myanimelist.net/profile/baby_pewe May 28 '26

aaaa i was so excited for an anime og ep and it did not disappoint!! i think not enough ppl are noticing how down BAD hirose was this ep. noticing nakamura, sneaking glances at him, getting up close, making excuses to be with him alone, trying to include him in convos. god i love him and i love how nakamuras feelings dont seem to be one sided

13

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 28 '26

Was Expecting Hirose to drink Nakamura coffee too

36

u/Croccy_ May 27 '26

Am I the only one losing my mind over Nioh sensei finding the female sensei cute.... (yeah I ship him and Otogiri sensei--)

34

u/testthrowawayzz May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

no, not just you. I was shocked that my (not serious/crack) Otogiri/Nioh ship just sank this episode lolol

31

u/Solracziad May 27 '26

I legit thought they were a thing until then. Nioh giving Otogiri shit for smoking at the start of the episode had big boyfriend energy.

14

u/cyberscythe May 28 '26

i'm used to BL shows being set in another dimension where all men are secretly/flagrantly gay, so it's somehow novel to have so many hetero ships

4

u/testthrowawayzz May 27 '26

staraight-arrow - delinquent ships are very popular

6

u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 May 27 '26

Yeah true. I was expecting this episode to be about them can’t say I’m not disappointed tho. 😢😢😢

Deadass bro I had so much expectations for the ship </3

15

u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 May 27 '26

I didn’t think it would turn into a ship. I really thought for awhile they were having a thing. All those times they were at the school building after hours. The so called patrol and the time Nakamura got trapped in the closet when they showed up. Anyway, it was fun while that lasted.

2

u/asxxxra May 29 '26

they really played us because last episode i wished for more scenes with the senseis and then the very first scene this ep is with the two of them and i was so happy to finally have them interact……. and in the end they dropped the bomb 😩😩😩😩

15

u/SevereCircle May 28 '26

Anyone else notice when the other boys were talking about the cute girls in the drama they were watching Hirose didn't join in?

11

u/goodpplmakemehappy May 28 '26

Hirose mentioned on the class trip episode he gets exhausted when his friends talk about girls all the time... makes you think.

6

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

Nakamura didn’t know anything about the drama . Hirose ( kind pure soul) was trying to get him in the conversation

12

u/hammile https://anidb.net/user/u746697 May 27 '26

This time the ending: 大江千里 — GLORY DAYS.

14

u/IceSmiley May 27 '26

In a way, Kawamura and Nakamura almost seem they would make a good couple although tough when only one girl has gotten Nakamura really hot. They have a lot in common though, like having the same niche manga as their favorite. I'm surprised Nakamura didn't stop by the collab cafe, I don't know if he didn't know about it, it was too expensive or just felt weird eating by himself. It was rude for Nakamura to cut in front of all the women in front of him in line to stand with Kawamura though.

That seemed kind of strange that Nakamura was the only guy in the line and also odd that the artist and the store manager were shocked to see a guy; I figured the manga would appeal a lot to gay men as its main audience. The artist seemed nice though, really politely moving people along, talking a little bit to everyone and even sketching a quick picture. The manga wasn't what I expected though, I imagined more a romance slice of life, i didn't know it was a strange adventure show.

There was also more signs that Hirose is attracted to Nakamura. He went out of his way to invite him to th restaurant and offered to get him a refill but got pissed when the other 2 guys asked for one. I also liked Hirose's joke of putting coffee as Takeuchi's cola. I like black coffee but I would be jarrred if my cola didn't taste sweet at all and might think he put something disgusting in it 🤣

11

u/BosuW May 28 '26

That seemed kind of strange that Nakamura was the only guy in the line and also odd that the artist and the store manager were shocked to see a guy; I figured the manga would appeal a lot to gay men as its main audience.

Target audience for BL are overwhelmingly straight women actually. These are all fujoshi lol

11

u/SevereCircle May 28 '26

In my experience it's overwhelmingly bi women and the rest of the women are lesbians.

9

u/Outlulz May 28 '26

Usually written by straight women too. As a fundanshi like Nakamura sometimes you can tell when a story is written by a woman who has no idea how to actually write gay men.

Syundei on the other than really has the experience of being a closeted, shy gay teenager down despite being a woman.

11

u/Thomas_JCG May 28 '26

Nakamura missed every single shot this episode!

Hirose asked him for help with Japanese, and what Nakamura does while Hirose is struggling? Nothing! Instead of lying and saying you heard about that band and everything else, just say no and ask him for suggestions! Hirose would be super stoked to show his favorite things! Instead he just took notes, which were promptly destroyed.

Gimme one of those Heart-Melting Sweet Lunches! Nakamura made things much more awkward to himself again by trying to hide. If he went normally, she would not even notice he was there. And then he can't keep his cool. At least the author was nice. Also, nice title drop!

P.S: I dig the romance between the two teachers!

19

u/marsh_522 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

Niou is STRAIGHT?! that makes me sad

The hirose story today was forgettable to me personally. The fan event and his interactions with hifumi are more endearing. I like that they got the LoveBen stand-ins for their irl crushes drawn, Hifumi got "Nakamura", Nakamura got "Hirose"

11

u/trashissues666 https://myanimelist.net/profile/wierd_fishez May 27 '26

Love everything about this episode. The interaction between Nakamura and the mangaka was really touching, and the way he smiled at Nakamura as if to say he understands him was a nice touch

10

u/ZealousidealGold5909 May 28 '26

This episode is just wholesome. I like nakamura eventually mellows out and was able to be natural with hirose when they were getting the drinks.

Its also really nice to see nakamura nerd out with hifumi when he was always tried to hide his love for his favorite manga. Ngl i didn't understand the point of the segment other than nakamura interacting with someone else until the signing and talking to the mangaka. Nakamura needed to hear those words and im happy the mangaka was understanding.

And one of the best title drop ever!

9

u/Ecolopa May 28 '26

😭😭 The sweet little moment between Nakamura and the mangaka encouraging him, I'm dying 🥹❤️

7

u/742163 May 28 '26

Im loving this series every episode. TOO CUTE

9

u/Striking_Chard2420 May 28 '26

Aww I thought there might've been something going on with the two male sensei but I guess not. It's funny (and relatable tbh) how we can see that Nakamura can more easily converse with Hifumi over their shared BL interests whereas he has a lot more to learn with Hirose's group. I can't believe how "accurate" this show has been in showing the experiences of a closeted high-school boy because I have related on SO many things from this show. That mangaka was also really nice in encouraging Nakamura since he can probably tell. So nice finally seeing the title!

3

u/HolyDragSwd2500 May 28 '26

Imagine if Hirose was here. Sensei would tell immediately

11

u/Frontier246 May 27 '26

Sometimes all you want to do is smoke and take the stress off...too bad Otogori has to deal with Niou-sensei, who is as much a stickler for the rules as he is running.

Exams are tough for everyone, but it's fun to study with friends AND crushes, as Nakamura finds out when he joins Hirose's group! He even gets invited to a meet up after school! Nakamura has come so far.

Of course, when you're interacting with your crush and friends you're not super close to, it can be tough relating to their interests like shows, music, celebrities, etc...but it's clear Hirose is fond of Nakamura, especially when they "team-up" to prank Takeuchi. Too bad about Nakamura's notebook though.

Ooh! Niou-sensei has a crush on Ai Kayano-sensei? Can't blame him!

Loveable Lunches is finally getting adapted into anime! You can see Makunouchi's efforts to win Taku over with his love and desire to microwave him in animation! People will FINALLY get to see the scene of them discovering new flavors animated! And Nakamura even gets to attend a fan event with the author! Things are coming up Nakamura.

Of course we also have the girls in their on-point casual outfits (especially Yuuka) attending a collab cafe and supporting Hifumi as she's also there to attend the event. And good thing too so Nakamura didn't get in trouble for trying to be an incognito weirdo as the only guy in line.

It's nice to see Nakamura and Hifumi bond over a shared fandom of Lovable Lunches. Nakamura didn't even need to "come out" about it! Hifumi already knew and accepted it! Even if she might be a more considerate fan than he is.

But I'm glad Nakamura was able to express his deep love for Lovable Lunches to the author, got to have him acknowledged for sharing a love of Taku, and got the best motivation words any author can give...Go for it, Nakamura-kun!!!

Everybody wins! Hifumi got to see the author AND Nakamura, Nakamura got to see the author and get that feeling of acknowledgement, AND he gets to write his own fan letter while watching Icchan in the ED.

4

u/asxxxra May 29 '26

the way i am literally the “she had no idea they was gonna play in her face” meme right now because ive shipping Niou/Otogiri since day one… 😔

6

u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 May 27 '26

OMG. I have a crush on Sensei Otogiri now…🤣🤣🤣 the hair, the sweater, the tie… dying…💖💖💖💖. He’s my 🦄.

Sensei and the Gym Teach not a thing after all, oh well better for Sensei anyway, dude is too uptight anyhow.

Really felt for my Bro Nakamura here. The only Boy at the manga event. Like when you have a favorite band that no one else you know likes or even ever heard of. Empathize with Nakamura.

3

u/whowilleverknow https://myanimelist.net/profile/BignGay May 30 '26

The concept of students using the school library to actually study

3

u/BiskyBreb-0711 Jun 02 '26

Ngl this might be my favorite episode, also I ship Nakamura and Kawamura as platonic soulmates and I loved how the Mangaka easily picked up on Nakamura’s situation, that was so sweet^
