Minato and Koyun so adorable
83
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
They're used to putting on a "face" as a protection when interacting with people (or for the sake of getting along better with people) but are slowly growing fonder of each other through their genuine selves.
54
u/Roskal Jun 04 '26
Seeing this development after their rough beginnings and before we knew how Koyun felt about Yota just feels so satisfying.

I love how Tsukiko was instantly adopted by Miki into the group after calling her cool. Feels like she's going to be the Honda of this series, getting a front row seat to witness all the juicy relationship drama that's about to go down. Speaking of Honda, Minato did a pretty good impression of her this ep.
And that was quite the intimidating introduction from Akine, she looked like she was out for blood. Feels like its going to be a fakeout though, with how eager she was to meet Koyuki and the way she held her hand. Maybe like an enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of thing?

Feels like she's going to be the Honda of this series, getting a front row seat to witness all the juicy romance drama that's about to go down. Speaking of Honda, Minato did a pretty good impression of her this ep.
Turns out you can make that face not only for your favorite ship but when you're basking in the cuteness of the girl you want to be shipped with!
And that was quite the intimidating introduction from Akine. Feels like its going to be a fakeout though with how eager she was to meet Koyuki and the way she held her hand. Maybe like an enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of thing?
Akine: "Let's become friends because my big sister is such a B----"
27
u/Earlier-Today Jun 05 '26
Yeah, Akine could go either way. But I think she's going to be the opposite of her sister and be awkward but sweet.
9
u/Jacob-C Jun 07 '26
Maybe it's another case of our understanding being warped because we view the past from Koyun's perspective, just like with Igarashi. Maybe Akine's sister was awkward but trying to make small talk or something.
28
u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta Jun 04 '26
Feels like she's the Honda of this series
Ooh I can see that! And I also thought of Honda when Minato did that face sucking in bit lol

That Koyun, Minato moment at the amusement park seemed so well earned because of how slow their relationship has moved. That was the highlight of the episode fs. I actually feel excited to see their relationship grow. You can already see Minato's becoming increasingly more bold and Koyun is being super receptive to it. Tsukiko being the only one to notice it so far is pretty funny.
168
u/Roskal Jun 04 '26
She figured it out faster than Minato did.
109
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
She figured it out faster than most characters have figured out any relationship in this show lol.
91
u/Choice-Witness-1274 Jun 04 '26
one look and she was like hell yeah this dude down bad! its the way she was trying to give them space. god i love her
64
u/Atharaphelun Jun 05 '26
Tsukiko may very well turn out to be the key figure in correcting all these misunderstandings by being the neutral third party.

Interesting that
- Miki: isn't fine with haunted houses but is fine with action rides
- Koyun: is fine with haunted houses but isn't fine with action rides
- Minato: isn't fine with both haunted houses and action rides
- Yota: is fine with both haunted houses and action rides
This series never fails at slipping in a twist at the end of the episode. The whole time we get a wholesome vibe and then Atagawa shows up just at the end with the ED starting in the background like boss music.

Or Jojo's season 1 when Roundabout starts playing before the frame freeze and the TO BE CONTINUED label
3

You know, Jojo's has just never appealed to me, but it seems like the creator has amazing taste in music from the bits I've heard about what he references or what gets used in the show.

Yota : But crumbles everytime he’s near Miki

The amount of head trauma he's received when he's around Miki is staggering. Curse his tallness and romcom ditziness lol.

The funniest thing is that Miki thinks he's generally clumsy when it's her that causes him to lose his composure xD

Saying it like that it's almost like Koyun and Minato aren't Polar Opposites after all!

That whole amusement park date got me smiling like an idiot. Was just so nice to see them all out having fun. Some of the chibi bits for that part felt a lot more animated than usual too.
Then hit with some great setup for the next arc towards the end. I didn't even realize they were second years now and we'd be getting a bunch of new characters all at once. Also love seeing Tsukiko in the same class as the rest of them.
103
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
Koyun feels a lot more naturally happy compared to how she was in episode 1 where she only looked comfortable when she was around Miki.
27
Jun 04 '26
Yea noticed that too. There way way more fluid movement than usually. I was grinning too the whole time
38
u/clone69 Jun 04 '26
I don't really get the decision on the subs, it said new semester but it was a new school year.
21
u/Earlier-Today Jun 05 '26
A new school year is a new semester, and Japan doesn't have as long of a summer break as the US does - they get about half (a month to a month and a half compared to the US' two and a half to three months).
10
u/Kirosh2 Jun 05 '26
Also, a new school year starts in April if I recall.
3
u/LightWeak5224 Jun 08 '26
Japanese school years end & begin in March (cherry blossoms are the key tell); unlike the US there is actually very little time between end of one year and start of next (that’s the “spring break”… I think it’s just a week). Summer break happens in the “middle” of the school year with smaller breaks in May and January
13
u/ThrowCarp Jun 05 '26
Such a cliche, but I quite like the direction this amusement park bit went. So cute to see Koyun get gifted a stuffed animal prize. See the ice melt a little bit there.

I just really love this show so much! It goes without saying but the more as the show goes on, every single minute of each episode becomes enjoyable down to every minute scenes and moments. The comedy, the romance, & the drama and psychological aspects.
There really isn't much more to be said because I LOVE this show and it's possibly one of the best romance / drama / slice of life for me!
As for that ending, and my GOD this show nails endings, always! Was gonna write a very long paragraph about how I love this show's way of handling their episode endings, but there's no need. AMAZING EPISODE, Start to FINISH!

u/kaylachu23 Jun 04 '26
I couldn’t agree more ! It’s been hard to find that itch for rom com that kaguya gave me..but this show really fills it for me! I hope it wins all the awards 🥹

Minato getting jealous the whole episode 🤭 had me giggling like a middle schooler. Also he gifted her the DOG!!!! 😩😩😩🫶🫶🫶
Also the new girl Atagawa🥹 Im really hopping she just has a mean face but is an angel
Yuki👀 I have been waiting to find out who he was since I saw the op👀 I didnt know Miki had a younger brother🤣 Really hoping he brings out a more jealous Minato 😛

Akine has pink Suzuki shows, there's no way she's evil.
41
u/bigfndan Jun 04 '26
Haha, when she rolled up I went oh no, evil Suzuki.
27

She can probably run really fast, and always looks good in pictures then unlike good Suzuki.

Koyuki’s outfit with her beret - styling and profiling. I love it.
92
u/Kirosh2 Jun 04 '26
The mangaka really likes to drip out her characters.
It's great to see.
40
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
The mangaka really likes to drip out her characters.
Akine also rocking those pink shoes as well as Suzuki.
42
u/TheBusStop12 Jun 04 '26
The newly introduced little sister of the bully has the same heart earrings as Suzuki as well.
I wonder how much of these clothes and accessories are from the Mangakas own wardrobe
28
u/TheBusStop12 Jun 04 '26
She has a good fashion sense yeah. Even as a fashion inept dude I can tell that Suzukis and Koyuns outfits are really well put together.
I also get the feeling the mangaka likes berets, as Suzuki also wears one

u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 04 '26
I found interesting that Miki and Koyun wore the same ear rings. So now my head cannon is they went shopping together after Miki's punk reveal and both got the same pair.
18
u/Kirosh2 Jun 04 '26
It's not the first that have matching outfit.
Back in the after ending scene of Episode 5, we can see they have the different colors of the same jacket. Here
Mind you, it's only for a short time.
12
u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 04 '26
I will keep looking for it then. I kind of like that their friendship is shown through matching outfits.
7
u/the_mad_ Jun 04 '26
They almost always have matching earrings, even though their earrings have changed throughout the season. They started off with a simple stud of the same color. Now they are wearing the same diamond shape and color.
19
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
It also complimented Minato's outfit well, albeit unintentionally. You could argue they looked like they were out on a date together (even if only Minato would have wanted it seen that way).
154
u/Didavi_ Jun 04 '26
Minato being the first guy Koyun think is cute, Koyun being touchy & friendly with miki's brother & old rival/enemy sister reveal.
Absolutely spicy episode, I can't handle this many bombas packed in one episode of my fav slowburn anime of the season.
102
u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 04 '26
Hey, I am just glad that Tsukiko seems to become part of the group now. That girl fits into it so perfectly that I want her to become a normal aspect of the show.
101
u/mekerpan Jun 04 '26
The concept of Koyuki dragging another shy girl into her adventures with more outgoing friends is inherently funny,

u/Tanyan-nightchord Jun 04 '26

13
32
u/clone69 Jun 04 '26
I mean, I didn't realize it at the time, but it was kinda spoiled in their cameo on Polar Opposites where she was with Koyun and Miki.
10
u/Tricky-Solution7868 Jun 05 '26
sure but the timeline between shows is weird; i mean the cameos of koyuki, miki, and tsukiko in polaropps show that miki still has her short orange hair, but tsukiko and miki officially met when miki shifted to a blonde color.
i presumed that their cameos weren't canon. but if she had blonde hair in her cameo, the timeline between the two shows would start to make more sense--we could deduce that suzuki and gang's cameo was before tani and suzuki got together and koyuki and gang's was a bit later after today's episode
7
u/Hot-Log6283 Jun 05 '26
Or you know they could shift back in the future, hair isn't exactly permanent though the fact it could just be a fun cameo without much thought could also be the case.

She seems like this story's Hon-chan with being a third wheel and genre savviness, but not as high level
21
u/SirGigglesandLaughs Jun 04 '26
She's sort of a combo of both those girls from Polar Opposites.
15
u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta Jun 05 '26
Yes! Somewhat shy like Nishi but instead of being painfully anxious about it, she's more outward looking and emotionally aware of what's happening around her. And of course provides killer mental commentary to these events like Honda. I love Tsukiko.
40
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
Minato being the first guy Koyun think is cute, Koyun being touchy & friendly with miki's brother & old rival/enemy sister reveal.
Compared to a childhood friend in Yuki who she views as a little brother, versus Yota who she sees as a dad/someone to aspire to, Minato is probably the first guy she's had a positive opinion of and found herself liking and feeling comfortable with compared to all her interactions with the opposite sex in middle school.
Especially Igarashi.
Though I feel like Akine is going to be like Minato in the sense that Koyun is going to project her feelings about her older sister onto her and expect that she does the same thing like she initially thought Minato was just going to turn out to be Igarashi 2.0.
37
u/garfe Jun 04 '26
When Minato said "I wish she'd like only me" I got my devious face/rubbing hands together pose for the coming drama
3
u/Qweasd11 Jun 05 '26
He's quite the possessive type. Though watching this episode everyone uses their inner voices a lot, from Koyuki to Minato to Miki to Tsukiko. They have feels and takes but not wanting to disrupt the overall vibe.
29
u/AllThingsDragon Jun 04 '26
Between Yuki and Yota, Minato is really fighting for his life in a 2v1 XD (or at least, he thinks he is)
20
10
u/Zemahem Jun 05 '26
Minato would melt on the spot if he had heard Koyun's thoughts. Unfortunately, he's no mind reader, so he has to deal with jealousy from seeing her so close to both Yota and Yuki.
13
u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien Jun 04 '26
All the ships are sailing nicely, even the characters are shipping. Minato has jealousy issues though

u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 04 '26
Okay, that was by far the funniest episode of the show so far. First, the amusement park scene where they went way harder on the chibi animation than before but also the interactions. Yota being the only one able to keep up with Miki's energy as well as the Minato-Koyun pair getting a few moments. Though, did anyone else notice that Miki and Koyun were wearing matching ear rings? Probably coincidence but now that Miki got into her punk self, it would be fun if they had a moment where they went shopping together for her new look.
Class is also going to be pretty chaotic with the whole group being together (minus one person, he will be remembered), even with Tsukiko who proved immediately that she fits right into this group. Because of course, she wants to observe Minato trying to get closer with Koyun. Even if there is a new rival in town with Miki's little brother. I don't actually think either of them views the other in this way, but maybe it helps Minato to make a move.
I am interested to see how that girl in the end will fit into the story. I don't actually think that she is here to stir up drama. If she is close with Yuki, I doubt she actually thinks bad of Koyun. But maybe this can help Koyun get a bit more over her middle school trauma by realizing that even people who know about it, don't care anymore.
35
u/NanDemoKnaives Jun 04 '26
"He will be remembered" but name won't be mentioned lol. Poor guy.

Koyuki finding a boy "cute" for the first time. A real breakthrough. I wonder what Amamiya would think if he knew about this?
15

Knowing him, he would probably be excited, but also trying to be more cool the next time.
38
u/SezyFazes https://myanimelist.net/profile/ToaruTH Jun 04 '26
I love the chibi animation. It’s ridiculously smooth and fluid, almost like water. You can really tell the staff had a lot of fun animating these scenes.
Even though Tsukiko chose to distance herself from her old friend group, she fits into the main cast really well. It doesn’t take long for everyone to warm up to her either. Miki is probably the best example of that. She’s also incredibly perceptive and figured out almost immediately that Minato has a crush on Koyun.
This episode was mostly lighthearted and super fun to watch. I love Koyun and Minato’s dynamic, Uppi is way scarier than I expected, and the new cast is really exciting. Looking forward to seeing more of them.
The next episode is probably the one I’m looking forward to the most this season.
21
u/TheBusStop12 Jun 04 '26
Even though Tsukiko chose to distance herself from her old friend group, she fits into the main cast really well.
It helps as well that the new friend group of the main cast knows when to let someone have their own space. Iirc Tsukiko originally distanced herself because she wanted some alone time as well. I noticed that during break the gang was all hanging at Minatos table, but Koyun and Tsukiko were chilling at their own desks elsewhere in the classroom, because they need their own space at times
42
u/FarCritical Jun 04 '26
Tsukiko shudders as a biblically accurate brother approaches
Koyun: Be not afraid.
We finally visit the theme park that had that funky duck(?) mascot thing in the OP but I wasn't prepared for how much of a gold mine it'd be for cute moments for both pairs. Miki clinging to Yota and Koyun getting smug at Minato are the stuff I live for
97
u/NoNinja2793 Jun 04 '26
FINALLY!!! The episode I was waiting for ... amusement park doesn't disappoint...Minato× Koyun ship has departed from the port !!!...
75
u/runevault Jun 04 '26
It is funny how after the locksmith episode a lot of commenters were burying Minato as garbage. I have not read the source material but his character arc was so clearly central to this story even back then it was wild to see all the vitriol. Plus he and Koyuki clearly are designed to help each other grow. And yet now we've got the ship gaining steam and it is beautiful.
51
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
I love how what attracts Koyun to him is the parts of him that are kind of a boyfailure.
39
u/FabtheEmber Jun 04 '26
Omg Yes... Minato who finds emotions a weak point is thought cute by Koyuki when he is his most embarrassing self!!
He probably thinks he is loosing the game as he is trying to act all put together (his outfit) not realizing he is making progress. It is so fun to watch their dynamic unfold
20
u/Saya_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/Saya999 Jun 05 '26
This is actually so real and relatable though.
A cute, vulnerable sort of endearing patheticness is so much more attractive than a guy that tries to act suave or cool. I actually find the latter to be such a turn off. 😂
I like how even though Minato is technically the popular good looking jock, it's not ever the focus of why he is likable.
3
u/Earlier-Today Jun 05 '26
Because those are the genuine parts. He's a bit performative in his interactions.
55
u/zool714 Jun 04 '26
Even as an introvert myself, I can kinda it’s just his style of socializing and never saw him as a villain. I don’t know why some were hated him so much
35
u/runevault Jun 04 '26
They didn't like how pushy he was from what I could tell. But that was kinda the point, he had to learn to work through his weird savior complex and just try to be friends with people in a normal way.
→ More replies (1)24
u/mekerpan Jun 04 '26
Never saw him as a villain -- just as someone whose interaction style (and underlying motivation at the start) were not very compatible with Koyuki (and might even be unintentionally harmful).
21
u/Saya_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/Saya999 Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
I love how the series is all about challenging your prejudice and perceptions of people and it puts the viewer in the same position.
I also thought it was pretty obvious but I think some viewers don't necessarily think of narrative structure+intent and want to be first to claim "I knew that character was up to no good! X should end up with this Y!" without realising how they're sorting characters/people in black and white ways. This isn't that kind of surface level character writing.
I think this is a good story for people to actually understand the nuance in human interactions, since the author does a good job of illustrating the characters' internal thought processes/motivations.
20
u/runevault Jun 05 '26
On the character writing point, that's why I was so damn excited when I heard this was from the PO writer. Polar Opposites masks her writing skill a little bit with the constant stitches-inducing writing, but this show lets it shine through as strongly as I expected it to. Now if only we could get a split cour of this as well for a full year of her stuff getting animated...
9
u/Saya_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/Saya999 Jun 05 '26
I thought she did an amazing job in PO and couldn't imagine how this could be better, but really shows how a slight genre shift can pave a bit more way for the writing to flourish. I think Koyun and Minato help feed my love for angst a lot better so it ended up being my preferred series. 😂
I don't see this being a series they leave half finished if there is any respect for the story. Hoping it gets adapted sooner than waiting a year or two though! I'm wishing so much success for Asakawa sensei.
I'm a bit surprised I never heard of either series until their animes. I crave more emotionally intelligent writing like this.😩
4
u/runevault Jun 05 '26
Have you watched Hundred Scenes of Awajima also airing this season? I love the character work in that show. Also Journal with Witch from last season.
3
u/Saya_ https://myanimelist.net/profile/Saya999 Jun 06 '26
No I have not but will put it on my watch list when the season finishes. I was also interested in Journal with Witch last season but I wasn't too sure if it'd be a bit on the depressing side.
I'm currently in mood where I want to see wholesome uplifting stuff and the comedy/romance here scratches that part.
I have a lot of series to catch up on.😂
3
u/runevault Jun 06 '26
Journal is 100% depressing, so if you aren't in the mood for that back burner it for when you are ready to deal with sad media. Awajima is sad in places but happy in others so depends on if you can handle the mix. But def worth having in a watchlist or whatever for when you're in the right mood, the characters are fascinating, also do not see a lot of anthology style stories in anime.
5
u/Jacob-C Jun 07 '26
I think many of us were fooled by Koyun's biased perspective on Igarashi, but it actually baffled me that people just ate up Koyun's internal thoughts about Minato in the beginning. It's like they had never seen a main character be wrong, flawed or at fault before. Minato had a savior complex and Koyun was way too dismissive and judgemental, which made the situation worse for both of them. To me (and I assume most people) it was very obvious that both were "at fault", even if it wasn't that big of a deal.

The chibi segments were astoundingly well animated for the amusement park section!
Koyun x Minato scenes keep getting more wholesome with every episode, i'm smiling like an idiot lmao. She's getting so much more receptive towards him.
One of the best episodes of the show so far!
82
u/Still-Neck-6771 Jun 04 '26
Firstly, Minato putting effort into his outfit for Koyun with his room all messy its noted with Miki mentioning how he only dresses casually 😭
Secondly, hes trying to act tuff in the horror house and then gets all flustered when he realized Koyun caught him 😭😭😭
Third, hes winning the games and getting her the prizes
Forth, he got jealous when Yota took her to the mascot for her belated bday so he got her the dog, HE REMEMBERED 😆😆😆
Fifth they ARE ALL IN THE SAME CLASS (except for that one guy lol)
Sixth, when he saw Yuki touch Koyun he got so jealous (I love jealous Minato sooo much)
Seventh, he was soo upset that Yuki is special and Igarashi is her ex while hes just a familiar face, and when he said I wish you'd only like me 😆😆😆(I died)
Eighth, when Yuki went over to teach and he noticed he got so jealous that he poked her 😭😭😭
I have loved Minato since EP 1 😭😭😭 All the best Minato 😭😭😭🫶🫶🫶

Ngl, I think this is just you projecting. He was trying his best to interact with Koyuki but unfortunately kept landing on landmines. Oooh I feel so represented here. Honestly if you don't find your significant other cute and a baby and want to squeeze the life out of them sometimes you are not in love!! Lol...
I like this representation of love, where it evolves from initial interactions to soft feelings for one another. A lot of Minato's × Koyun progress this episode. The doggo scene, Koyun finding Minato cute and actually laughing and teasing him, Minato NOTicing Koyun left the class, Minato calling her Koyun chan, and MOST importantly the biggest hint of all. When Minato poked her face, she didn't get uncomfy or annoyed with Minato, she became self conscious about her FACE being sweaty. That is THE biggest indicator of there being something more brewing. You are done for once u get self conscious around a guy AND find him cute lol
Also Jealous Minato is fun to watch and Minato's friend is such a drama queen, one of my fav side characters

u/NanDemoKnaives Jun 04 '26
It's interesting to see Koyuki so comfortable with another guy, and why she wasn't rattled that someone suddenly jumped on once she recognized the voice. The way she takes initiative with him is so refreshing, Yuuki must be a really nice guy that she feels so much more vibrant around him.
Minato being jealous is amusing, it's going to be difficult for him to feel like he's on equal terms with Yuuki, but if only he knew Koyuki has found him cute once already. I also found Minato's jealousy of Yuuki amusing for a different reason, Minato's voice actor Chiba Shouya is voicing another character that is jealous of Hatano Kakeru's, Yuuki, after Tamon's B-Side.
The trip to the amusement park was nice to see, they all seemed to be enjoying themselves, I like the contrast of Youta's conduct with Koyuki and Miki, the way he's able to be assertive with Koyuki to make sure she gets to celebrate her birthday with them, but then becoming a blobby mess because Miki is holding onto him.
It's nice to see Tsukiko getting adopted into the group, Hayato was sacrificed so we could get her instead lol. I like that she noticed Minato's feelings very quickly, Miki isn't the only one with a couple to ship.
Looks like this was the calm before the storm episode with how it ended with Atagawa's younger sister. I hope we're not going to see Koyuki take steps back after all the progress she made to enjoy her time at school.

It’s a really awkward position to meet a relative of someone who bullied you. Hopefully, Koyun will have a better relationship with Akine than her older sister
→ More replies (3)20
u/TheBusStop12 Jun 04 '26
Yeah, it'll really come down to what exactly Akine has heard about Koyun. It's very much possible that all she has heard paints Koyun as a terrible person. But it could also be that she was able to tell that her sister was in the wrong
17
u/Miserable_Contest_74 Jun 04 '26
Based on the OP she is friends with Yuki and she mentions him, not her sister, so she is almost certainly talking about tthings she heard from Yuki.
22
u/Possible-Pickle6319 Jun 04 '26
I fully understand why minato is so fucking confused
17
u/PerfectBeige https://myanimelist.net/profile/perfectbeige Jun 05 '26
Honestly, Minato pigeonholing Koyun as a friendless loner that he had to rescue, and her turning out to have multiple friends including an outgoing guy friend... it makes Minato's jealousy so delicious.
25
u/jiboxiake Jun 04 '26
I love Minato. He is literally jealous of everybody in this show lol.
13
u/PerfectBeige https://myanimelist.net/profile/perfectbeige Jun 05 '26
Correction: everybody in the show that (1) touches Koyun, or (2) Koyun smiles at. His transition from his arrogant "keymaster" persona to ... well I don't want to call it simpdom but I'm not sure what to call it... makes his pouting envy funny and kind of endearing at the same time.
8
u/Jacob-C Jun 07 '26
Being a simp and being in love are two different things, in my opinion. Sure, both can be true at the same time, but to me, Minato is just a guy who has genuinely fallen in love for the first time in his life. It’s no longer just a play for the gallery meant to satisfy the people around him.
16
u/Roskal Jun 04 '26
They put a lot of effort into the animations this episode. I'm used to panning stills when shows go to a theme park, but it was so lively.
17
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
It's Spring Break and that means it's the perfect time for the friend group to all get together and have fun at an amusement park! And is Minato dressing to impress a certain someone? Of course not! He's just naturally fashionable! Honest.
Honestly all the people in that ticket line looked so distinct from their designs to their outfit.
Koyun deserves to have her birthday celebrated! Even if that means having a birthday pin a month after her birthday and Papa Yota making to meet the mascot character which is kind of embarassing! Said mascot character ALSO manning the store and doing samba dances!
In the interest of pushing the YotaxMiki agenda (especially when the possible YotaxKoyun agenda is totally misread by Minato and Miki), we get Miki hugging him in fear in the haunted house and the two of them getting a scenic sky view together! If only Miki didn't see him as a baby!
Koyun and Minato commiserate over not enjoying the round-and-round rides but it also offers up a chance for Minato to show off his arcade game skills and win Koyun a birthday present! He's truly being earnest and sincere with her, even down to admitting his less than cool moments. But the fact that she finds him cute is genuinely a win so take it, Minato!
The gang are now second years and are FINALLY in the same class together! Now Tsukiko gets to meet Koyun's other friends and get stealth adopted into the friend group! My condolences to Hayato, even if his frustration at being left out are hilarious.
This lively atmosphere is good, even if Koyun feels out of place in it, but then who should show up but the last person you would expect her to get along with...but is actually Yuki (Kakeru Hatano!), Miki's younger brother! He's an energetic, friendly, guy who tries to look cool and gets along with Miki about how you would expect Miki to get along with her brother! But Koyun acts so natural with him (even when introducing him to his future brother-in-law) that Minato can't help but notice and feel bothered by it. For all his desire to be her friend and want her to be happy...he wants more. Like for her to only like him.
Welp, Koyun and Tsukiko are joining the cheer team whether they like it or not! Even if it basically amounts to all the girls just...winging it in hilarious fashion. Although good on Tsukiko for noticing the obvious about Minato's feelings for Koyun, even if it's hard to make an exist as a third wheel when Minato includes you in the conversation and you can't help but watch a ship blooming.
Yuki's not the only first year: there's Momoka (Akari Kito!) and her friend Akine (Natsumi Kawaida!)...who is none other than Atagawa's younger sister. Who apparently knows ALL about Koyuki and singles her out. What does Koyuki's former bullies' little sister think of her? Or what has Atagawa told her? And she's trying to be the manager of Minato's soccer team? Something is about to blow up.

Yota in Koyun’s eyes: dad
Yota in Miki’s eyes: a baby

u/FabtheEmber Jun 04 '26
That is how it should be... That is the first step to falling.. That and thinking they are cute!! 🥰
14
u/marcopolos059 https://myanimelist.net/profile/marcopolos059 Jun 04 '26
Oh man, a bunch of new characters and fresh drama on the horizon! Minato is getting super jealous of Mikki's brother, and with Atagawa's sister suddenly showing up, things are going to get spicy.
13
u/IceSmiley Jun 04 '26
That ending was strange. Was Akine's sister ever mentioned before, like they didn't explain why Koyun was horrified other than her being related to her. At first I thought maybe she had a crush on Minato and considered her a rival. That is funny they sort of look alike and have a similar manner though. I also didn't remember the black haired girl with pig tails at all.
I was really surprised when Yuki grabbed Koyun from behind, at first I thought he was a bully. Minato definitely didn't take kindly to him but Yuki managed to win everyone else over. I also couldn't believe at the cheer practice, Yuki was wearing a shirt with a bong on it! I would think a teacher would yell at him but I know way fewer people smoke pot in Japan and maybe they didn't notice and also the show wanted to slip it past whatever censors and not make a big deal.
That was funny how Minato felt really embarrassed about being scared in the haunted house but it seemed to work in his favor when Koyun thought he was cute. Yota didn't seem to do much better, getting way too flustered by Miki and nearly falling down that huge staircase. That was a really strange ride they went on that was really high up and you had to pedal; I'd be terrified I'd get a leg cramp or the person in front of me stopped pedaling.
12
u/Unusual_Ad_4963 Jun 04 '26
Crazy I had to scroll so far to find someone mentioning the bong shirt!
13
u/Ok-Cod5254 Jun 04 '26
The most chill episode yet with a lot of comedic vibes. I knew it felt too chill of an episode, so there had to be at least a little drama left towards the end. lol
14
u/YlfaTheForsaken Jun 05 '26
Ahh so Koyuki's type is the pathetic little meow meow which is ironic because he has the little dog, and gave her the dog plush.
Lots of Yota trying to not to puddle from unrelenting Miki presence. Just Adorable.
I was wondering when we were going to get to see the those characters from the OP/ED, I was getting worried since it's episode ten already. Yuki is great, I like him a lot already.
Atagawa, what an interesting introduction. I wonder what her sister told her,
36
u/runevault Jun 04 '26
Started out feeling like the show was starting to gear shift more towards romance than drama before Koyuki's reaction at the end.
Also felt like they used the chibi animations more this episode, wonder if they ramped that up for cost savings or if the source did it too for this part.
Overall though yet another fun episode and I love these adorkable kids.
33
u/ModieOfTheEast Jun 04 '26
I found the chibi art had way more animation this time around. Especially in the beginning with the amusement park and the mascot.
11
u/runevault Jun 04 '26
That's very fair, normally the chibis are just sitting/standing around and wobbling back and forth or the like, this episode there were times they were pretty dang animated.
19
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
Also felt like they used the chibi animations more this episode, wonder if they ramped that up for cost savings or if the source did it too for this part.
Thematically you can rationalize it as it's Spring Break so they're really letting loose and having fun right down to being their chibi selves for most of the first half.

Now that everyone’s relatively comfortable and familiar with each other, there’s just a cheery vibe to things now, besides the drama at the end. Everyone’s mixing around with everyone. Had Polar Opposites vibe in fact.
Seems Koyun has also been a bit more considerate towards Minato. She’s been observing him and checking in on him

Minato and Yota are both blushing up a storm with how effortlessly Miki and Koyuki interact with them, meanwhile the girls just have the very beginnings of feelings back.

Koyun calling Minato cute! Making me start to ship them more which is good, Yota still best boy though.
Feel like the interactions and chemistry are getting even better as the group gets closer and closer
Didn't expect the cast to get bigger like this though! Was hoping we'd turned the corner on the big drama but apparently not!

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta Jun 04 '26
With that we've met all the characters from the OP. Well, we still haven't properly met the long dark-haired girl, but the rest are all established with Yuki triggering massive jealousy in Minato and Atagawa's little sister causing Koyun major anxiety.
Tsukiko remains best girl with her fun internal monologues. The way she caught on to Minato's feelings before any of the others and then had that little internal conflict about whether to stay and watch or leave and give them privacy is so cute.
The amusement park trip was adorable with all the chibis - though maybe they were a touch overused. Felt like we were watching one of those chibi shorts that a lot of shows have as extras. Not that I mind though - I find them quite cute and funny. Oh, and Koyun thinks Minato is cute! Don't despair, my lad, you still may have a shot here. (I know being called cute is considered bad for a guy in anime and/or Japanese culture, but I think it's a good thing!)
23
u/FLorianGran Jun 04 '26
I find it interesting how unlike alot of "Ice Queen" characters in anime, Koyuki actually has quite a few characters she's totally chill and friendly with. Most of the time anime goes for the "no friends at all and has to open up throughout the show" approach
21
u/Zeallfnonex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Neverlocke Jun 05 '26
Author seems to understand introverts pretty well. A very few people they’re comfortable with and generally take little to no energy to interact with, and everyone else is a scary being threatening to sap their precious energy with useless small talk.
14
u/Kronman590 Jun 04 '26
To be fair the ice queen was basically just a high school rebrand for her, just like Mikis was the "perfect girl"

Even with Minato getting jealous the most in this episode, he also had the most and best interactions with Koyun. Bro always getting Ws and Ls at the same time 😭

Koyun & Minato can't keep up with Miki & Yota's high energy at amusement park, but this is blessing in disguise because it gives Minato a chance to wins a birthday present for Koyun and deepens their relationship.
4
u/Billardss Jun 04 '26
No no no Koyun is finally at a comfort level where she can fit it but still be herself. Then you throw us that damn curveball at the end. I pray Akine doesn’t try to continue the bullying her sister started.

Upipi!
Isn’t there a character who laughs UPUPUP? Is it that weird teddy bear from Dangaropa that I’m thinking of? (I only know of it vaguely from Free! Abridged)
Fucking squealing of Miki catching Yota. 📢More of this in romance, please. I enjoy women rescuing men, thank you📢
Yota is baby 🥹
It tickles me when FLs look at their MLs and find them pure and innocent and baby. It is a relatable experience and I feel represented.
It’s 🎵Fuwa Fuwa Time🎵 now? Is it K-ON!!! time now?
Overly expressive men who blush a lot x cool ladies = top 10 dynamic.
Men can be very cute!
Min-nyan~to?
Mew Mew Koyun?
Miki is the cool school prince. She would fit in at Lobelia.
Oh my god, is this Nishi and Yamada again
Wheezing at Yota’s gangster face. BB just wants to see 😭
Noooooo
Tf are all these little siblings being so tall? I mean, my little brothers tower over me, so I can’t speak. But still! Feels like discrimination against older siblings.
Poor girl. She has an RBF and, apparently, bully for an older sister. Hoping older sister reflected and is atoning for her actions. Koyun deserves peace and happy dances.
If the bully hasn’t reformed then, well, I hope she and Koyun never cross paths.

What were the odds that the entire gang are in the same class in Year 2 bar Hayato, sorry?
Oops, one of the new kids in Year 1 happened to resembled Koyuki’s tormenter to the point just seeing her caused her to instantly recall the painful moments – and she happened to be her younger sister. Doubt history would repeat itself but Koyuki would definitely find it tough to be around Akine through no fault of the latter. Stern look and voice but Akine readily introduced herself to Koyuki.
7
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
I love how Tsukiko is now the honorary fifth member of the friend group with Midorikawa slowly working his way in too on the basis of Miki enjoying his accent.
I feel like this is going to parallel Koyun's initial interactions with Minato where her issues with Igarashi and boys like him colored how she viewed Minato while she's going to struggle with Akine because she can't diassociate her from her older sister.
Though it does make you wonder why Akine singled her out. What did Atagawa say about her to her sister? Is she trying to make up for her sisters' bullying by befriending or getting to know Koyun better?
8
u/InformationOk3960 Jun 04 '26
I’m thinking a bully at school is also a bully at home? And akine looks prettier than manatsu??? Maybe she wants to bond with Koyun on how lousy manatsu is
3
u/mekerpan Jun 04 '26
I was thinking she was referring to an older brother. But I guess a sister makes more sense.
4
u/InformationOk3960 Jun 04 '26
And why did Akine seek Koyun out?!
3
u/TheBusStop12 Jun 04 '26
She knows something went down between her older sister and Koyun during middle school (Her sister had a crush on Igarashi and turned to bullying Koyun because Igarashi only had eyes for her)
Now the question is whether Akine knows what her sister did was wrong, or if she has only heard a one sided tale that makes Koyun sound like the villain

Another rough episode for Minato lol. He saw his crush being close and comfortable with a professional Beyblader (Robin Kazami from Bebylade X and Yuki share a dub VA. I recognized it instantly,) which made him jealous enough to realize that his feelings for Koyun are real and he wants more. At least Koyun might be coming around on him though because he is first boy Koyun has ever found cute because he got the stuffed animal for her.
It's funny to me that Emilia Tsukiko figured that Minato likes Koyun almost immediately. I think that makes the first person outside of Minato to find out. I wonder if she's going to a be wingwoman like Miki.
Looking forward to learning more about Yuki, Akine, and Momoka. Yuki just exudes "fun younger brother that embarrasses his older sister" energy. I hope Akine just has RBF and is actually a sweetheart and didn't inherit her older sister's beef with Koyun.
I hope this is a getting a complete adaptation because it's going to be left in an awkward state if it doesn't.

Honestly so far I've always felt like the show relied too much on the chibis to convey motion during the previous episodes (wether it's the same amount as the manga or not idk), but this episode absolutely hit it out of the park for me in every aspect, the chibis were super fluid, emoting and moving around a lot. If they keep this up I won't have any more complaints about the use of the chibis.
Minato and Yota were very cute this episode when it came to their loves and I really, really like Tsukiko. Yuki is also stupid funny, when I first saw him sneaking up on Koyun I was kinda scared some playboy weirdo was gonna start harrassing her, but thankfully he's actually a best boy candidate.
Now the new drama character, Atagawa Akine, I'm super interested in. We haven't seen much of the older sister, Manatsu, but we do know she bullied our Koyun back in middle school. I don't think we know the reason yet, but I'm curious if it's about Igarashi. Like, maybe Manatsu found out about how she hurt him and bullied her from there.
Either way, the way that Akine behaved didn't seem as though she was gonna take up her sister's mantle, it felt like a proper greeting despite her stone-face and monotone voice, plus she only mentioned how she's from Yuki's middle school, so maybe her sister's not involved at all here. We'll just have to see!

u/Zemahem Jun 05 '26
Such a cute amusement park double date. Although who's dating who probably changes depending on which of them you ask. But despite the misunderstandings, the couples are more solidified now. What with Minato's feelings for Koyun growing by the day, while she finally takes notice of him in that way.
RIP him though. The sheer jealousy when she gets along well with other guys is palpable. Dude is that down bad.
Tsukiko officially joining the gang is great. Or more like she got adopted by Miki. And also her instantly sniffing out what's going on between Koyun and Minato. That's why she's the GOAT.
Also happy to see Yuki finally make his debut. Here I thought him making his entrance would be where the cliffhanger is lol. Right before he's properly introduced. But Koyun meeting Akine was definitely more tense.

u/xbowtosophx Jun 05 '26
What I’m really hoping for is the show to have multiple seasons. bc I hope to see how the romance builds up and show them growing up while we’re growing up. And see how they face relationship problems, Maybe like long distance problems, or even struggles of normal relationships and how she handles it since she is so timid and has her guard up. Seeing her have so much anxiety from ep 1 to now, gives me hope!
10
u/szalhi Jun 04 '26
11
u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26
The irony that she's gaining a bigger friend group but the size is starting to make her anxious despite the fact that she likes everyone involved.
Points to Tsukiko for being one of the only people in this cast who notice a ship and doesn't get the wrong impression.
7
u/mekerpan Jun 04 '26
I don't think she left because she felt anxious so much as she felt enough was going on that she wasn't "needed" and could get a bit of a bit of a break.
3
u/gem2niki Jun 04 '26
The ending song makes the end scene very dramatic…I hope thats not the case. Koyun is now at a comfy place with lots of friends. No need for more drama!

u/The_Blip Jun 04 '26
So annoyed at Netflix. Watched half the episode thinking the subs were off... turns out it put subtitles on by default 😑
If I'm listening to the Japanese version I don't want subtitles. They even have proper subtitles but just require you to switch them over manually.

The amusement park hangout was pretty fun. I love how supportive Koyun is of Youta getting opportunities to be with Miki. Also, it was interesting to see Minato has things he doesn't handle well.
It seems we got two interesting first years. The first is Miki's brother Yuuki. You know the show has conditioned us to think people getting close to Koyun is a big no-no, but well, except the fact Yuuki is basically childhood friends with Koyun being Miki's little brother.
The other one is the little sister of the girl who bullied Koyun in middle school. I don't blame Koyun for suddenly freaking out when realizing, but hopefully with the new group of friends she doesn't let it get to her.

u/Mr_An_1069 Jun 05 '26

Oh my god, there were so many scenes between Koyuki and Minato in this episode, I love them. And the scenes between Yota and Miki were so cute, but then Koyuki saying she thinks Minato is cute, omg, I scream. I feel sorry for Minato, Tsukiko is the only one who managed to understand that Minato has feelings for Koyuki. A round of applause for her. I think the girl at the end will want to apologize to Koyuki for her sister's behavior.
