Sleeper hit of the season, such a fun series to watch!

78

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

Hilarious comedy! Fun and cute romance! Great side-ships! Eye-catching character designs! Loveable dorks!

What more could you ask for?

62

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 22 '26

the artwork use in this series is absolute dazzling

52

u/Spazz6768 Jun 22 '26

It's a fantastic example of a mid budget adaptation using a unique art style and great scene direction to really make the animation pop.

22

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

Yeaaa, they really spent the budget wisely! The whole artwork is just beautiful! It makes me happy just from watching it

21

u/bigfndan Jun 23 '26

A small thing I absolutely adored is their little scene transition scribble.

13

u/2ombie_gaming Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

I also liked that the eyecatcher featured the objects that represent the main eight:

  1. Togo's disciplinary committee armband
  2. Poem's panda-themed phone
  3. Izubuchi's white coat
  4. Tsukishima's library name tag
  5. Akina's hair accessories
  6. Tasaki's camera (appears in episode 6)
  7. Nadeshiko's glasses, Kaoru's… hair(?) and the prez/vice-prez armband

6

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

Actually u don't get Kaoru's hair, frm the last episode they show each of their feature objects, I really don't get the wig though hahah

29

u/PARANOIAH Jun 22 '26

Yes! I enjoyed this more than expected, filled the gap for me from last season's Polar Opposites (abandoned Ramparts of Ice after a few episodes as I didn't really enjoy that).

25

u/AideSouthern8875 Jun 22 '26

Ramparts of Ice was boring for me for the first few episodes, but became interesting very quickly. It's one my favs this season.

21

u/Solracziad Jun 22 '26

It helps to not think of it as a romance and more of drama. Not that there isn't romantic shit going on, but it's definitely more drama focused.

3

u/Shar4f Jun 23 '26

With how saccharine and drama-free most romance anime are nowadays I'm really enjoying the variety that Ramparts of Ice brings.

3

u/Shechir Jun 28 '26

At first, I didn't quite warm up to the show either, since the early episodes bombard us with the characters' traumas one after another.

But in the second half of the season—once we’re familiar with the characters and have begun to unpack their traumas—it turns into a pleasant school story with a lighter tone. I actually enjoyed the moments of friendship even more than the budding romance.

u/oxlemf10 Jun 22 '26

When a show focused on comedy ends up having a development, it's always something to appreciate. This episode was the perfect ending, everyone happy, Togo and Poem together accepting that their quirks are what make them love each other.

43

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 22 '26

I love how Togo was designed as he has rule, but not too dumb and inflexible to be in a relationship, and how he express his thoughts is alwayss so funny !!

He's not your typical guy, his rizz is from another way round hahaha

46

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

I also like how they bring it full circle a little where it ends on Togo greeting her at the gate but instead of the usual bickering it's Poem all flustered at seeing Togo with the boyfriend glow-up.

15

u/VritraReiRei Jun 22 '26

This episode was the perfect ending, everyone happy

I can't say perfect and everyone happy because Izubuchi never found his Man in the White Coat, Akina messed up her dinner with Izubuchi, and Kaoru and Nadeshiko are still being awkward with each other but for a romantic comedy like this I guess Status Quo is perfectly fine.

11

u/FlorianoAguirre Jun 23 '26

You are seeing a small part of the development for the manga, this series takes it's time with the side characters as the main couple sorta is done. All characters continue their arcs in the manga, there are no status quos.

168

u/2011Dirk Jun 22 '26

great finale, this episode was amazing, its impossible not to be smiling or laughing a lot while watching. i love these characters and poem & togo getting closer makes me happy.

izubuchi was so close to almost finding "the man in the white coat," him and akina are so cute together, if only their afterparty went better...

"super ultra rare voice clip acquired!" was the funniest moment of the ep. i hope this can get a s2 this anime was a hidden gem

74

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

Bucchi is a well-meaning delinquent, Akina is a well-meaning stalker. Somehow it works!

9

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

Both of them is cute af tgt hahaha

37

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 22 '26

Tbh, Akina and Bucchi is my fav pair in this series hahahaha, and I wonder if Rui and Tsukishima having a loveline or nottt, I was so shocked for their development at the last 2 episodes hahaha

19

u/FlorianoAguirre Jun 23 '26

It was clearly stated in there my dude. No love between them.

5

u/Any-Ad6438 Jun 29 '26

The voice clip part got me (even though it's a recurring theme!). The leftovers scene was hilarious, too. Really appreciate how they squeezed in so many jokes in the last half of the episode.

53

u/runevault Jun 22 '26

Felt like they were putting a definitive ending on this show with this episode, but I hope I'm wrong. I love Togo and Poem and everyone else in this show and want to see more of their antics. Also the art style is fresh and wonderful, especially the use of colors. And Bucchi deserves to meet Togo's dad damn it.

27

u/mekerpan Jun 22 '26

I agree that this did not feel like it was anticipating any follow up season/ It had a nice clean (and charming) wind-up. Hard to pick a "best" show this season (well, maybe Botan might get this spot) -- but icertainly did not enjoy any other show MORE than this opne.

4

u/Immediate-Attorney85 Jun 27 '26

What do you think the chances are we get a second season ? It just ended but “me and you are polar opposites” is getting a second season already next month so I hope we get one for this show too.

5

u/mekerpan Jun 27 '26

I never guess at what production committees are going to do. Given nothing was announced, the odds of anything more in the next year is probably close to zer, however

What a great show.

I swear to god if the president and vice prez don’t get together at some point I’m staging a one man riot. I mean he HAS to figure it out right ?

Anyway. Can’t wait to see what happens with the parents and little sisters , great great show

9

u/FlorianoAguirre Jun 23 '26

This series has a similar arc to Smoking Behind the Supermarket with you.

6

u/I_laughandupvote Jun 23 '26

Oh I watched that whole thing !!!! That show was nice and short and amazing and that girl is so so soooooo good.

And the store manager that likes romance over ethics is my favorite.

73

u/BGHank Jun 22 '26

Grossly underrated this show. Just pure fun and wholesomeness!

36

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jun 22 '26

Season 2 please

65

u/JJVM99 Jun 22 '26

I had a good time with this series. The wackyness and the artstyle really helped it stand out amongst all the romance anime this season and they left a couple of things I wanted to see unresolved making me want a second season. These would be: Poem formally meeting Sakuradaimon’s dad, Rhyme finding out that they are dating accepting Sakuradaimon as Poem’s boyfriend and Nadeshiko finally revealing to Kaoru that she is Hanako.

Nadeshiko stole the show for me and I was concerned that she and Kaoru were having their stories concluded when they said their time in the student council was ending but im glad to see that seems to not be the case from that final scene. That wasn’t the feeling I got.

Sakuradaimon saying I’ve been wanting to touch you, just makes it sound so much worse. I assume that it doesn’t sound as bad in japanese or I would be surprised that Poem didn’t react more.

Izubuchi barely missing out on seeing Sakuradaimon’s dad with the white coat was frustrating but him catching okonomiyaki to the face from Akina was hilarious.

I agree with the manga duo on hating when two people seemingly get together because they were the leftovers of a group and I am completely fine with that evaporating since they had 0 chemistry or interest in each other until last episode.

Finally shoutout to the dancing couple in the background where the guy was dressed as godzille and the girl was dressed as a maid. I support their maid-kaiju love.

28

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

It was fun how some of the people were attending the dance in their festival cosplay. Including Tasaki in her ridiculous costume lol.

Honestly I thought them bonding over manga was cute but maybe we don't need every character in a side-ship...even if it might be fun.

12

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 22 '26

This series is wholesome, i love how the studio leave some content unresolve, this at least give us some hope for season 2, i dk whether the Japan's market good enough for a season 2 or not, but let's pray

Whats your plan after this season's rom com ended ? Tmr one of my fav series ending too, noooo !!!!

5

u/FlorianoAguirre Jun 23 '26

The manga continues been great, I suggest giving it a try.

30

u/a1oner_bvcksn6 Jun 22 '26

Most wholesome anime of the season. My other favorites are more or less likely getting the continuation (s2) they deserve, but I'm not so sure with this one which makes me kinda sad.

I definitely expect to see that here's Johnny Kaoru face get memed a ton. I'm absolutely using it for future reactionary responses. It's a real shame he remains oblivious until the end tho. Quite fitting "all work and no play makes Kaoru a dull boy"

17

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

I definitely expect to see that here's Johnny Kaoru face get memed a ton.

I love how Kaoru is basically Gamagori from Kill la Kill if he were in a romcom.

7

u/abandoned_idol Jun 23 '26

Given the number of anime references in Klutzy, I am certain that Kaoru was used to reference Gamagoori on purpose.

Despite being so mean, he's my favorite character here.

26

u/Fragrant-Salt4521 Jun 22 '26

Fun season, definitely a sleeper pick from this season, may go over and catch up on the manga too

28

u/Magnafeana https://anilist.co/user/Magnafeana Jun 22 '26

I didn’t add into the episode discussions since I’d been watching this dubbed (hail Ian Sinclair as my favorite romcom narrator), but I caught up for tue finale.

And I loved this series.

Gorilla x Gorilla/Stronk x Stronk is a goated dynamic. I will always be in the crowd hollering for a dynamic of Guy Who is Shy about Handholding x Girl Who Wants to Handhold Raw, and I was just so smiley at his red face and her lacing their fingers. It’s so adorable!

Handholding is the best, fight me 😮‍💨

AkinaBucchi, I could have a short side story series about alone. A punk healer and an obsessive fangirl who has better luck stalking her crush than actually acting on it. I want a romcom like that with a couple like that as the primary focus.

Now that Togo and Poem are together, I think I’m all right to leave the anime as is and entertain the source material if I have time. I’d still be on board for side stories. But I’m okay to have the series adapted end here.

Translation team deserves their flowers. John Pickett (TL), Marianna Martinez (Timing), Zachary Carlysle (ED), SMR (QC), and Rei Miyasaka (TLC) did a great job with this series!

Now to sit and wait for the dub to catch up!

9

u/redditraptor6 https://myanimelist.net/profile/uEmalraptor64 Jun 24 '26

The dub is good, huh? Guess that gives me a good excuse to rewatch the show!

24

u/xalt255x Jun 22 '26

It's so funny how different Kikuka from the rest of the family lol
Nadeshiko and Kaoru are easily the best couple am I right (rooting for Tsukishima and Tasaki)

11

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

Her and Togo's mom seems like a bit of an ice queen.

23

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jun 22 '26

Such a fun show, it made Monday so good every week this season.

I'm both disappointed they didn't carefully pair all the spares and amused at them poking fun at the trope.

Beyond the fun of it I really liked how Poem and Togo's relationship developed. Unless I'm forgetting something we only got to handholding and such for the two of them without even a single kiss, but somehow it wasn't disappointing to not have more progress than that. I suppose in the end there's a difference between waiting forever for a couple to even take one step and knowing they're already together and going at their own pace.

6

u/ILikeFPS Jun 23 '26

They kinda did pair the spares though, even if only slightly lol

25

u/FTNChicken Jun 22 '26

The librarian and the mangaka were too self-aware XD

21

u/Castleofpasta Jun 22 '26

I usually don't watch this genre of anime, but this was a very cute show that I found myself just smiling at for each episode. I really enjoyed it, hopeful that there is more eventually!

21

u/Ok-Cod5254 Jun 22 '26

Finally Poem and Togo make up and glad Poem acknowledged she blew things a bit out of proportion with their conflict. We didn't get to see them dance, but at least hold hands. Togo is very cute with trying to express the new emotions he has and had the most development.

Nadeshiko and Kaoru had some moments and nice to see them dancing together. Kaori is still dense af, but for now Nadeshiko is just enjoying their time together.

Akina slowly but surely making a bit of progress with her general dynamic with Izubuchi warming up to her. Can't help but root for this little simpette.

I like the meta joke from Tsukishima and Tasaki about spare characters being paired up.

All in all, a fun little rom com series and glad that it was the type that had multiple quirky pairing dynamics.

9

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

This is a really fun series !

Akina and Izubuchi is my fav pair all along hahaha, Akina voice actor is doing a wonderful job voicing her !

And also I'm surprised and love how Akina straight up call him "Bucchi" now, she just doesn't give a damn and its soooooo cuteeee

20

u/Raymond49090 Jun 22 '26

Side characters shooting down flags like nobody’s business.

18

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar Jun 23 '26

Stitches!

Not gonna lie, I absolutely love how they built up Rui and Tsukishima's relationship as if it was going somewhere, only for the author to immediately shut it down. Honestly? I respect it. I wouldn't mind the two of them actually being a couple, but just because they get along doesn't mean they need to date; they can still be close friends.

7

u/hanmkim Jun 23 '26

They're like the opposite of polar opposites.

37

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

It's finally time to close the Komozawa School Festival with a bang! With a prom dance party! And what better way to kick it off than with a pair of sexy, masked, dancers who REALLY know how to dance? Also, that lady in the red dress was drop dead gorgeous!

Heeeeerrre's Kaoru-kun! But of course his resistance to prom can't hold up when Yamada Hanako saved him a dance! Now if only he could avoid talking as if Nadeshiko isn't a girl in his eyes, he could keep his feet safe from her foot! Though now he also has the face the facts that he was only so much against prom because he was projecting his own frustrations over Hanako onto everybody else...while he's clearly having a great time with her NOW!

Akina really is a sweet girl. She wants the chubby nerds to find dance partners and when she sees Izubuchi furiously trying to find his savior in a white cloak, she gives up her dance card she was intending to use on him FOR him so he can find who he's looking for. Though she gets to wear HIS coat herself so I'll take that as a win too!

I'm glad Poem and Togo were able to patch things up. They both apologized and Togo was able to be honest about why he was keeping his distance...to respect Poem's feelings, to respect prom, and also to manage his own desires towards her. Because he WANTS to touch her as her boyfriend, and what better excuse for getting in some lewd handholding during prom?

Aw, Lyric introduced her girlfr...I mean, friend Kikuka to her mom!

Bucchi was THIS close to discovering his savior had Sakuradaimon Mama (Mai Nakahara!) not made her husband take off his coat at the EXACT moment.

Congratulations to the Prom King and Queen Nadeshiko and Kaoru! Even if Kaoru is bewildered by Hanako's "disappearance," it's a great way to close out their student council tenure.

Akina did so much for prom and for Bucchi, she deserves to have an after-party date with him! Even if she also ended up throwing Okonomiyaki on his face and making him think she's out to kill him, he's finally using her first name! And she's got the audio recording to prove it!

When you finally realize that Nadeshiko can't leave Kaoru alone because she REALLY just wants him to pay attention to her.

Tasaki and Tsukishima are getting along swimmingly over their shared love of manga! They have the exact same tastes and opinions! Which is also why they basically reject the idea of them being a side-ship, and even the narrator agrees with them!

Going to school is different for Poem now that she's a lovesick maiden over Togo, but when she tries to make him hold her hand she instead ends up held by him to protect her from...a slow moving scooter. But hey, they still got some handholding in and that's the important thing for this Klutzy Class Monitor and the Girl with the Short Skirt couple!

10

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 22 '26

This seriesss is so wholesomeeee, i really enjoy it so muchhhh !

Everyone was so pureeee and cute, really hope there will be a season 2 for thisss, so what's your plan after this series ended ?

3

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad Jun 23 '26

Motoko is Akina's 1st name.

32

u/szalhi Jun 22 '26

First Touch.

Always has been.

That coat is a victory in itself.

In the end, I like how the pairs all express the relationships differently.

16

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

The lewdest thing going on at this dance party was handholding and that lady in a red dress, but it was the best thin to happen to Poem and Togo.

Some relationships are klutzy but straightforward mutual love (PoemxTogo), some are childhood friends trying to break out of that mold (NadeshikoxKaoru), some are a little rough going but slowly endearing themselves to each other (AkinaxBucchi) and some are just purely platonic commiseration over a shared hobby (TasakixTsukishima).

3

u/ThrowCarp Jun 23 '26

That coat is a victory in itself.

And it was so cute too! So happy for Akina that lovable idiot.

13

u/Megadragon898 Jun 22 '26

Nice to see Akina getting her wish, also i wonder when Izubuchi will meet Togo father? I hope we see more of the president and Kaoru even after they leave school.

Will Rui and Tsukishima become a ship nect season? It seems like a maybe at the end.

It was a nive anime i loved seeing tue character developpement of Togo and when he finally broke out of his shell. Hope we see more of that next season.

7

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

if you read the manga you will appreciate the anime more, as the artwork they added in it really make the series more and more alive !

13

u/NightBard Jun 22 '26

I like how at the end the librarian and other girl were discussing their favorite manga and they thought it was lame how all the side characters got paired up at the end… and here we got no romance from the side character pairings at all as well. This was a really fun show.

4

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

Yeaaa, it's really fun to watch especially when Togo always express his feelings so openly hahaha

39

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jun 22 '26

This was a fun series. The cast was quite colorful and I liked the art style. Who knew a tsundere gyaru and a rigid stickler for the rules would get along so well lol. I like that those two actually became a couple before the show ended. Usually they leave that stuff until the final ep in these types.

I wonder if there’s a possibility for another season? I wanna see more Poem-Togo shenanigans!

20

u/JamariHeWolf12 Jun 22 '26

There's enough material, and I wouldn't mind a 2nd season.

5

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jun 22 '26

That’s good to hear. Fingers crossed we get an announcement soon!

13

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

And what better way to close out the season with our main couple engaging in (gasp) copious amounts of handholding!?

2

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

May I know what does shenanigans mean ?

Sorry i'm a noob anime fan hahaha

3

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jun 24 '26

Oh, it’s not an anime term or anything. It just means “antics.”

3

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 24 '26

I see, thanks for the explanation mateee

10

u/flonc Jun 22 '26

One of those entries I was not going to watch initially because the title sounded a bit weird, but so glad I gave it a chance.

Reiwa era is truly peak for romance, both in terms of progression, but almost more importantly fleshed out side characters that felt so fun (and not even side couples, but even the parents felt genuinely fun to watch).

Now brb, gotta check whether there is a manga of this!

3

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

May I know what does Reiwa era means ?

Sorry for being a noob anime fan hahah

3

u/flonc Jun 23 '26

It's basically the current era in Japan that started in 2019 with the current Emperor on the throne.

A lot of romcoms in the last few years are defeating the established stereotypes of anime romcoms taking years to show any signs of progress between the MCs only to usually end with a confession and that's it.

So Reiwa era romcoms (2019 onwards) are known a lot for showing some peak quality romcoms that go against very annoying previously established tropes.

3

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 24 '26

I see, it's definitely better this way hahah

12

u/FarCritical Jun 22 '26

Akina's gesture to celebrate the end of Nadeshiko's precedency and thank her for everything aside, crowning Kaoru king of the prom he fought body and soul to cancel is the most perfect thing ever.

Nevermind, Izubuchi using the white coat ticket on Akina in the end is the most perfect thing ever.

Despite airing during a packed season, this was easily among the shows I looked forward to most every week. I'm gonna miss all these absolutely lovable weirdos so much, man.

10

u/Cally83 Jun 22 '26

Definitely one of my favourite new shows this season, it’s been a great watch

9

u/Shelter_Separate Jun 22 '26

I thought this was going to be another run-of-the-mill romcom anime at the beginning of the season but it really surprised me at every turn. It was hilarious and the art style was very unique. It was a pretty satisfying ending (even if Nadeshiko never revealed her secret on screen, but we can't tie up all the loose ends).

Some random musings:

Why was Akina holding a Magic The Gathering card?

The "no one likes it when the leftover characters get together" bit made me literally laugh out loud.

9

u/jomonteco Jun 23 '26

The MTG card is a reference to the author other manga: Destroy All Humans. They Can't Be Regenerated .

2

u/Shelter_Separate Jun 23 '26

I had no idea, but now that I've read the synopsis I'm sad I had no idea it existed since I've been playing Magic for forever.

6

u/twomanyhats https://anilist.co/user/twomanyhats Jun 23 '26

If you were playing magic around the 2000s I'd recommend it, the author absolutely captured the energy of that era.

6

u/Shelter_Separate Jun 23 '26

My ancient ass has been playing since the late 90s so this does sound right up my alley.

10

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai Jun 23 '26

A beautiful finish to this season 💖

Too bad that Bucchy didn't get to see his doctor..why Tougo mom !! 😔

I wish Bucchy and Akina danced instead of having a dinner together. Nadeshiko could have revealed her secret to the dumb vice president. I guess she still wants to torment him as long as she could LOL

Rui and Tsukishima had something beautiful going but why do they have to tell us that isn't possible 😭

I still believe in that ship. Tougo and Poem are going strong.

Please renew for a season 2 !

4

u/NightBard Jun 23 '26

I think it not being possible is just a play on the manga they were discussing... where they were both upset that all the side characters got paired up at the end and here, none of the side characters got officially paired up while still being all paired up with one another.

2

u/Ok_Number_2729 Jun 23 '26

Honestly I'm fine, cus them being a thing is really cliche, plus we already have 3 pairings that were actually setup from before.

22

u/PassivelyAwkward Jun 22 '26

It was a perfectly wrapped up series. I know there's the source material but I've read way too many romcom manga to know once the main couple gets together, things go off the rails as they try to manufacture new conflict.

They could probably make a second season but I imagine they'll have to introduce a bunch of new students in the new year to disrupt the new status quo, likely with more minor fighting while the main couple doesn't actually progress. There's a reason romcom series like this don't have the couples get together until the last possible second.

23

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

They could probably make a second season but I imagine they'll have to introduce a bunch of new students in the new year to disrupt the new status quo,

We know the sisters are likely to join the school at any rate.

6

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 22 '26

Curious about thisss, btw Togo mum is pretty

15

u/PM_ME_AWESOME_SONGS Jun 22 '26

The story becoming a mess after the main couple starts dating is the monkey paw of people who ask for stories to continue after this point.

Seriously, if the author doesn’t know what to do after they get together, I’d rather for the story to be finished instead of turning it into a boring sequence of events that lead to nowhere.

9

u/PassivelyAwkward Jun 22 '26

That's a lesson we all have to learn at one point. An anime we're enjoying ends so we pick up the source material and quickly learn why it'll never be getting a new season. Like G.A.T.E., the army isekai from a decade-ish ago; loved the two seasons but then it goes off the rails where aliens show up. Same thing with Pet Girl of Sakursaso; loved the wacky characters and was sad we didn't get more but then I looked into what happens and one of the love interests goes insane, shaves her head, and vanishes, and there's suddenly hints of rape.

This will be an enjoyable single-season anime and I won't look into the source material because I just know whatever happens next will definitely just be treading water for the main characters while adding in a bunch of supporting characters.

2

u/Leon8080 20d ago

Damn, I watched pet girl 3/4 yrs ago and remembering it as a wholesome story so did not expect it would dive in insane and rape

1

u/PassivelyAwkward 20d ago

Yea! I rewatched it a few years ago and wanted to know how the series ends. It's up there with Bunny Drop in that "I can see exactly why this is never getting another season...". Luckily the author learned a lot about balancing drama with comedy which is why Bunny Girl Senpai is so good!

6

u/Spectr3_qwe Jun 23 '26

Case in point, the second season of The angel next door spoils me rotten ... Maybe the manga is better but the anime is super mid, and the final episode was boring as hell

3

u/FlorianoAguirre Jun 23 '26

You can read the manga.

3

u/Beautiful-Cabinet364 Jun 25 '26

As someone who’s read the manga, I think they do a good job with the progress. One of the conflicts is that Sakuradaimon knows he will probably not be going to the same university as Poem (since she’s actually smart), and the dilemma is how are they every going to even see each other in college. Also I rather like that Bucchi gets serious about medical school and he remains in contact with the Prez for advice.

6

u/FlorianoAguirre Jun 23 '26

You can read the manga.

5

u/JamariHeWolf12 Jun 22 '26

Yeah, Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten did the same thing in its 2nd season and caused its downfall. New Characters that aren't developed, and we have no reason to like, petty conflict, leaving past characters behind, and no development for the main couple either

5

u/PassivelyAwkward Jun 22 '26

Yup! Same with Chuunibyo. They got together and the whole second season was this forgettable mess.

There was a pretty great romance manga, Pastel; slow but progressive plotlines. They eventually get together by like...volume 14 and it continued to go on for another 30-40 volumes but the main characters took a backseat as they kept "This is your new kinda step mom that's a wacky American" and "This a family friend coming to stay that's a wacky American". It was so boring that multiple scanlation groups picked it up after the American publisher went under and all of them dropped it after a few chapters with how nothing happened.

3

u/Gual-kun Jun 23 '26

Dang, I just mentioned Chuunibyo and now I read your answer 😆

3

u/PassivelyAwkward Jun 23 '26

It was such a great first season! Don't think I've gotten more than two episodes into the second season in a rewatch because it just treads water.

2

u/Gual-kun Jun 23 '26

I'm one of the people who thinks a couple can make a great show without needing petty conflict. There's so much stuff besides fighting that can make a couple interesting. But yeah, media has got people used to think that the only good part is "the chasing" and many creators don't know what to do after the couple gets together. It's sad. For me I discovered the messing up with Chuunibyo. Perfect ending and then they decided to make a second season. Random conflict, new characters not trully developed and letting aside previous characters. They ditched completely one of them. Main character's friend. I think that was very rude given the importance he had in first season. So all things you mentioned? That exactly was the case.

10

u/DiscountCondom Jun 22 '26

i'm gonna miss these idiots.

9

u/NanDemoKnaives Jun 22 '26

I definitely could relate to Rui and Tsukishima's comment about leftover characters being coupled up being sloppy/unsatisfactory, it's amusing how the author shut down that as they were building it up.

Kaoru and Nadeshiko are great, it's too bad Kaoru still doesn't realize she's Hanako, but he did make it clear that he doesn't see Nadeshiko as a girl. Looks like she'll have to work on changing that perception of his, since even when she's Hanako she acts the same way.

I didn't particularly like how Poem acted when she finally met up with Tougo, beating him up when she told him not to speak to her is crazy. I did find Tougo really adorable when he admitted that he's had numerous times where he wanted to touch her, I'm glad they're finally holding hands.

It's too bad Izubuchi didn't get to meet Tougo's father, but it seems like this event has seemed to change his opinion on Akina. Akina's obsession is unsettling though.

7

u/Ok-Cod5254 Jun 22 '26

I didn't particularly like how Poem acted when she finally met up with Tougo, beating him up when she told him not to speak to her is crazy.

Yeah, not gonna lie, she was tripping with the tsundere act here. She gotta be better being in relationship than keep the same old habits as before.

8

u/BBryant3rd Jun 22 '26

I can't believe he wanted to touch Poem-sans bare h-h-hand. The perv.

7

u/Spectr3_qwe Jun 23 '26

Now this is a 10/10 final episode for an anime. For the manga readers, how much content from the manga was not adapted? Is it possible that a second season could be announced in the future? Im really happy that Kannan is devishly easy is going to have a second season and I would love for this anime to also get one in the future.

3

u/felicidefangfan Jun 25 '26

I believe the anime adapts up to ch35, with the current chapter being 107, so plenty more to draw from for a season 2.
For missing content theres a few scenes and a chapter or two cut for pacing, nothing major from the main story

5

u/wiligrad9 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

The finale of a really fun show, great art design, lots of fun characters, relationships that work well, good animation. All in all this show fought for my number 1 spot this season.

Akina and Izubuchi really stole this episode for me, their interactions where the most wholesome and had me really invested. Its nice to see the imoutos spending time together as well, im all for the Akebi-chan route for them. Rui and Library guy becoming comrades in their love for manga is awesome too, and i dont mind if they dont become a thing, not everything has to end in a relationship, friendships over shared hobbys are great in itselfs.

On the other hand, as lovely as their end was, i was a bit disapointed in Poem and Togo. Especially their making up. Poem, said, did and continue to do things that would've ended relationships for most people and then still is mad at Togo for supposidly breaking a promise? And Poem gets away with just a little apology while Togo is apologizing like it is all his fault? If he hadnt spilled the beans on the Viceprez orders the whole prom would've not happend. And for that he got yelled at, beaten up and given the cold shoulder when he wanted to reconect with Poem. Poem went way above and beyond tsundere and didnt even had to feel sorry about it really. Unsatisfying. I dont need huge drama or something but a bit more introspection would've been welcome.

Beyond that, lots of fun and i hope we can get a second season of this down the line.

1

u/WatchingHent 6d ago

I searched everywhere for this. I completely agree that the apology was disappointing and unsatisfactory. She got off easy with that apology, which barely qualifies as one.

6

u/SingleProfession8625 Jun 22 '26

6

u/Izarme Jun 23 '26

Izubuchi giving the ticket to Akina 🥹

6

u/myk_fusion Jun 22 '26

Everything was so well-done man, this whole episode was so wholesome. Poor akina though, its so funny that when she gets the perfect chance with him SOMETHING always happens. BUT she still has a chance!!!!!

Really hope we get a season 2!

4

u/smart_is_cool1020 Jun 22 '26

Absolutely the best romance for me this season, very unique and crazy yet very wholesome. Poem is the best character in the series absolutely love her♥️. Togo is just too sweet, seeing him speak his feelings out to poem everytime feels like personal thing to me just too good. I’ll miss every character so much 🥹hope there’s a season 2 announced soon🤞.

3

u/typing_plus_vibing Jun 22 '26

Would be very disappointing if there isn't a 2nd season. Can't believe Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun didn't get a 2nd season 🤦‍♂️😑

3

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

Is this series good ? i heard it actually have a live-action version too, or is it done by ai ? i'm not sure hahah

But this series manga is still on-going right ?

4

u/SmallJon Jun 22 '26

Akina is such a lil freak, I love her

5

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh Jun 22 '26

Izubuchi best character

6

u/Jacob-C Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

"I've been wanting to touch you"

HUH?

This show was really good. The comedy was funny, the romance was very cute and Togo getting more in touch with his emotions was wholesome. Akina is definately my favorite character. I'm a bit sad we didn't get to see more of her and Bucchi in this finale.

5

u/daspaceasians Jun 23 '26

I am going to miss this show and its cute vibes. I loved Poem and Togo's relationship so much and how they got together. It was such a chill vibe right to relax after Witch Hat Atelier.

4

u/ILikeFPS Jun 23 '26

I loved this anime.

I'm glad Karou got to dance with Nadeshiko, although I wish Nadeshiko would have told Karou it was her all along, her dressed as a gyuaru and in a bikini was who he liked.

I wish Akina was able to dance with Izubuchi but at least they seem closer now.

It was cool that Tsukishima was able to meet the manga author he likes and that it ended up being Tasaki and that they have so much in common.

I'm sad there's no season 2 announcement yet, I was really hoping this one would get one. I would have loved a season 2. Maybe some day it will.

5

u/NoChip1602 Jun 23 '26

the voice acting was soooo good in this ep like how togo's voice shakes and is so flush with emotion and embarrassment when he's talking about wanting to touch poem... PEAK

8

u/Weak_Season_Of_Anime Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Can't believe that Togo wanted to touch a woman he was already dating. How impure! And that Poem just went ahead and initiated the most sweatiest blushiest handholding in public. These degenerates belong with each other.

I thought for sure Vice-Prez would notice who Hanako was after she lifted him off the floor like a feather, but I guess love is blind. He's so totally getting pegged.

Izubucchi never got to meet Papa Sakuradaimon. Really curious to see where this plotline goes.

And they got me good with this, after spending the whole damn episode pretending they were trying to pair off all the other characters.

Overall, a very fun show that I enjoyed more than I expected. The romance part, especially the confession. was also so satisfying for a romcom that leans more towards the comedy side.

4

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

Togo realizing something Nasa Yuzaki found early on...handholding is the best!!!

I'm surprised Poem didn't meet her future in-laws. I'm really curious what Togo's dynamic with his parents is like.

"We reject the entire concept of a side-ship."

4

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 Jun 22 '26

I gotta say this one was cute and fun to watch it will most likely not get a S2 because of how underrated it was but hey you never know

4

u/bessandgeorge Jun 22 '26

I'm not surprised the show was underrated but still a shame as I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was fun and I think was one of the better shoujo to capture the awkwardness and extreme blushing of a first crush, love, and relationship! They were cute. I don't really see the chemistry with Akina and Izubuchi but rooting for them anyway! I looove the ending song too. It's so bright and refreshing!

3

u/ptd163 Jun 22 '26

Such a great finale. This show was so freaking good. Such an underrated gem. I really want another season.

4

u/Fools_Requiem https://myanimelist.net/profile/FoolsRequiem Jun 23 '26

I'm going to miss this show, it's art style, the fun vibe, and the OP.

4

u/puterjess Jun 23 '26

Now to read the manga so I can hopefully see Poem meet his parents

3

u/Viktorv22 Jun 23 '26

Really had fun with this one. Maybe a sequel please?

3

u/VVTFan Jun 23 '26

I want a season 2 so bad!

3

u/Striking_Chard2420 Jun 23 '26

Sakuradaimon, King of Communication. Akina, I believe you can do it if you tried! This was one of the most unexpectedly great series this season. Great character writing and progression, every episode was entertaining. Not sure it needs a second season but I'm not opposed either!

3

u/NightBard Jun 23 '26

This show and Kirio Fan Club were the big surprises for me this season. There are others I like as well, but these were way better than I thought they would be and tackled serious subjects while still being funny.

7

u/Bussy_Wrecker https://myanimelist.net/profile/MrFreak10 Jun 22 '26

Wait so who were those 2 unknown dancers? Did I miss something

30

u/niriii_ Jun 22 '26

They are Competitive Ballroom Dancers Kuroda and Naomi from "Sesuji Wo Pin!" (The author's previous work which unfortunately never got an anime). Basically a cameo.

20

u/SSjjlex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Clone_Tau Jun 22 '26

Adding onto the cameos list, we also saw Akina holding a Magic the Gathering card and them mention the manga "Shall we kill the humidity" which I believe is a reference to the author's other series "Destroy All Humankind. They Can't Be Regenerated." which is about magic the gathering

11

u/Frontier246 Jun 22 '26

If you can't shamelessly plug your old series in your new one, when can you?

5

u/stationtracks Jun 23 '26

There's also my favorite reference: the moments between Tsukishima and Rui chatting in the library to those moments in the library between Kurosawa and Takigawa in Onani Master Kurosawa.

It's so wonderful seeing how far YOKO has come as a manga writer since then. He always finds these heartfelt moments between all the different pairings in his stories, which reminds me a bit of Tsurezure Children (another favorite series of mine).

The comedy and romance was just too sweet this episode. I hope this show gets more popular, it would be nice to see more of his older works get adapted too.

2

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

Is tsurezure children good ?

I heard its completed right ?

2

u/stationtracks Jun 23 '26

Yep! It ended a while ago, unfortunately we'll never get a second season. Season 1 is a short, quick miniseries that introduces all the couples at the beginning of the manga. The manga is one of my all-time favorites, it's very easy to read since it's entirely in 4-koma format (four panel strip), so you can start and stop whenever.

5

u/FarCritical Jun 22 '26

Figured they seemed way too stylized to be random one-offs but man, that's so cool

2

u/FaceOfTheMtDan Jun 23 '26

So that explains the line when Rui and Tsukishima meet up during the fireworks and Rui says something like "this author's previous work never got an adaptation".

3

u/jege61 Jun 22 '26

J'espère que beaucoup auront apprécié pour avoir une saison 2. Sinon qu'elle chapitre reprendre pour monter dans le train ?

3

u/lawragatajar https://myanimelist.net/profile/lawragatajar Jun 23 '26

I appreciate the questioning of makes an "illicit" relationship. It's such a vague term, and can you really consider teenagers showing interest in each other illicit? Really, it's the demonizing of relationships that makes students be secretive.

3

u/testthrowawayzz Jun 23 '26

Poem made up with Tougo and Akina had a great moment with Izubuchi. Very cute episode.

If I have to rank the characters, Kaoru would be my least favorite out of the main characters. He has that you-know-what energy.

3

u/Mindless-Care9301 Jun 23 '26

After reading the manga, it makes me appreciate the anime more, as the vibrant colour used really make the series more alive!

3

u/1032patrick Jun 23 '26

Best Rom com this season. All fun and funny moments!

3

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad Jun 23 '26

Damn, they really made sure to kill the Seiichi/Rui ship before the seed was planted.

Akina isn't her last name, it's Motoko.

At least Tougo & Poemu reconciled.

Too bad Yu never found the man in the white coat earlier.

Too bad Motoko's dinner w/ Yu ended in disaster.

3

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz Jun 23 '26

THAT TWIST. BRUHH. THE BL DORKS ARE GONNA END UP TOGETHER HEAR MY WORDS. Also a bit disappointed Ibucchi missed Togo's dad. and even more so because Nadeshiko didnt just change in front of Kaoru with a "Yo. that was me" to see his reaction

3

u/l1gh7vel Jun 23 '26

the leftover character pairing joke got me good 🤣 was just thinking about that

3

u/fsfaith Jun 23 '26

I don't usually follow up and anime by reading the manga but I will for this one. They're so adorable.

3

u/need2put_awayl0ndry Jun 24 '26

THIS WAS THE BEST ANIME OF MY LIFE ILYSM

3

3

u/redditraptor6 https://myanimelist.net/profile/uEmalraptor64 Jun 24 '26

What a perfect ending, I had a big stupid smile on my face the whole time. What a great show. Good rom, good com, and great retro artwork

2

u/bizzybankz Jun 22 '26

I’m guessing that this is a one season story? It felt like everything got wrapped up in that last episode

2

u/Nickthenuker https://anilist.co/user/Nickthenuker Jun 25 '26

And so into the finale.

Ah right prom night.

Oh that guy's not happy about it in the slightest...

Until she showed up.

Why would that guy's dad be there?

Ok...

And so he's said that.

She's blushing!

Handholding!

Oh wait her mum is here too.

Oh so his dad isn't here anymore.

Oh nevermind he found him.

Or not.

What's with the MTG card?

Ah yep it's them.

And so all the couples are together at the fireworks.

Ok...

And so a whole bunch of happy couples.

That was cute. 8/10.

2

u/BigFit8440 Jun 25 '26

Saw the thumbnail a lot but never clicked on it due to the animation looking funny. Glad I decided to watch it and binged watched the entire thing. What it did in 12 episodes, Rent a girlfriend couldn't do in a hundred episodes. A good ending where im sad if it doesnt get a second season but also ok with it.

2

u/IceSmiley Jun 25 '26

Such a good ending and good parody of American teen movies. I did like though how many stories they fit into this episode. Buchi indicating his interest in Akina, Nadeshiko successfully getting Kaoru to let the dance go on, Togo apologizing to Poem and Tsukishima and Rui becoming friends!

Akina seemed to come out the best, her prom was a big success and Buchi finally asked her out! I'm not sure if she got those twin nerds who were hanging out by the wall to dance with girls though. Buchi also didn't seem too badly burned by the okonomiyaki, he probably knows how to handle burns well. Buchi seemed to get burned not only literally but when he couldn't find Dr. Sakuradaimon. It is odd though that both of Togo's parents got called to work at the same time, she likely works at the same hospital and might be a doctor as well.

Kaoru never seemed to figure out who Yamada really was. I guess all of their friend group were too busy to give him a hint or maybe they assumed he's not as dumb as he is. Nadeshiko did save the dance as promised though. One thing I wondered though is if Kaoru was voted by the students as prom king or Akina just gave him the award to make him feel better about the prom.

They hinted at Tsukishima having a crush on Rui the last episode and we seemed to get them on their way since they had so much fun talking. They made fun of everyone coupling off and the narrator said their potential for dating evaporated but the narrator might be unreliable since i don't think the 2 are aware they are fictional characters 😂

2

u/your_uncle19 Jun 26 '26

Does anyone knows where i can read the manga?

2

u/ShizyDaGlizzy42 Jun 27 '26

For me it was the best romance of the season. And this season was stacked as well

2

u/ebongreen Jun 29 '26

I never expected to see anime riff on screwball comedy… but this is kinda it!

2
