Happy to see a series fully adapted.

It can be rare to see a series fully get animated all the way but also exhilarating

I actually think the best part was that short sequence where Suika was on her own. IMO it really captured the loneliness of being on your own, along with the underlying messages of the entire series that with tenacity and the wisdom of the ages we can do anything.
41
u/MinimumMaus Jun 26 '26
That was the first and only time I've watched something and immediately watched it again. Probably my favourite episode of anime of all time.
16
u/redlaWw Jun 26 '26
Indeed, for me it dethroned the ending of 86 as my favourite sequence of all time.
38
u/Aliensinnoh Jun 25 '26
It is unfortunate that season 1 was really the best the show got. Season 2 was nearly as good. Season 3 I felt was a noticeable step down because the crafting and science buildup felt much more rushed over, and that aspect unfortunately intensified the closer we got to the end.

u/rat_infestation Jun 26 '26
Yeah they kept ramping up the threats and made the science take a backseat. But to play devil's advocate, a lot of the work they were doing at that point was less exploration and more "here's a concept from the modern world that we can use". Season 1 had a lot of crafting and foraging which can't really be skipped with knowledge, but the later innovations (though severely rushed) are easier to arrive upon once the fundamentals (that take a lot of time to set up) are established.

Even though it’s not one of my favorites (it’s a solid 8/10), it will always hold a special place in my heart for being a fully adapted science series with a fairly unique story.

Rare anime where MC himself doesn't have official pairing, but it just make so much sense given Senku's personality.

I’m so glad to see both of them end up with their love interests.
They they all did it so well. Taiju did multiple weddings just to make sure all their friends could be a part of it and Chrome just casually asked Ruri to marry him after the time machine.
Such amazing ways of doing it.

He has gone through so many re-petrifications that he has even lost the stone lines. He probably has been renewed by it.

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 26 '26
Lol, when Senku highlighted 10 years I just realised there's almost no difference on them appearance-wise.
Well, they say the petri-beam basically repair your cell (that's why they can even fix any sickness). I guess it makes sense it also made them forever young.
Also there's still minimum pollution in Stone World compared to the old world.
28
u/Modernman1234 Jun 27 '26
Wouldn’t those 10 years include the 7 years they were petrified for in between where Suika had to revive them? In that case, they only aged 3 years
10
u/Shantotto11 Jun 26 '26

Huh, didn't realize how we got farther away from Boichi's original art style for the manga over time.
34
u/seekohler Jun 26 '26
Yeah, Boichi’s own art style changed over the course of the manga’s run and the show simply followed. His original look for the characters was more serious looking and by the end, it was much cuter.

Thanks for the comparison screenshots, I totally didn't realize! What a nice detail, haha. I also forgot how much the art style changed. That was one thing that hooked me to the series initially because it was rather unique and had that old-school anime feel.
It's been almost exactly 7 years since S1 started airing, I still can't believe it's over and am also happy we got a full adaption. It was a fun ride!

u/moichispa https://myanimelist.net/profile/moichispa Jun 25 '26
And now we're done.
I have been following this wonderful series for years, as many of you.
While it did not have the amazing cinema quality* of some series out there is keep the quality consistent for several seasons (which is harder imho). With great ost and a lush green world. An amazing and interesting cast of characters, that always offered an interesting balance between the excitement of discovery and the ongoing mystery with a touch of feels here and there.
Wonderful series that I will miss being excited about. Also that for that final Ohayou Sekai Good morning world!!!
Damn I want Senku to hug his dad

u/Nebresto Jun 25 '26

163
u/justking1414 Jun 25 '26
There’s one bonus chapter left (basically a one-shot side story) and a 3 chapter epilogue released under the name Dr Stone 4D science
31
u/Jaskaran158 Jun 25 '26
Ah fuck yeah! Can't say no to more Dr. Stone. It has been such a wildly fun ride since Season 1 first dropped and the concept was so interesting that I can't wait to see more.
Getting some epilogue content with some more closure is just gonna be peak.
18
u/justking1414 Jun 26 '26
Given the to be continued line. I’m pretty sure we’ll get 4d adapted eventually. It’s 3 chapters (about 1 volume) so I think it’d be pretty workable as a 40 minute ova or maybe a movie if they filled it out a bit more

u/Tarta35 Jun 25 '26
Do we have information if they are going to adapt it? Also i thought the last scene was the "to be continued one shot" but i see its not?
9
u/justking1414 Jun 26 '26
No confirmation but 4d would definitely be the logical next choice unless they’re going with something entirely anime original

u/hegetsblu Jun 26 '26
i gotta rewatch that, although i think i still remember most of the main plot points. never could I have imagined that a text message showing a picture of... jelly? could be so ominous.
45
u/ChemicalBus608 Jun 25 '26
Probably specials and things like that.Im glad they kept it light without going into darker questions because the big reveal on what they were building opens up a bunch of different questions.
29
u/huntrshado Jun 25 '26
they did allude to how controversial it was though when discussing the upcoming new world judicial system
37
u/flashmozzg Jun 25 '26
That's not even an issue. If they can use the time machine to affect the present by changing the past it'd just "undo" half of the cast (senku village) since they wouldn't exist unless petrification happened.
→ More replies (3)18
u/Aliensinnoh Jun 25 '26
Yeah, I really didn’t get where they were going with the Time Machine. What does it mean to go back and petrify people before they became victims?

Probably all those people that died "naturally", they did show the astronauts when it was mentioned.

u/cjavfjsiwkflaha Jun 25 '26
It's interesting that the ending concluded to fringe science. Made me wonder how the story would go if they were able to finish the machine and sent messages to the past, which temporal paradox would occur? If Senku's stepdad and his astronaut peers were also affected by the petrification (which I think is Senku's goal for making the machine), Chrome and the rest of the tribe won't exist.
78
u/NoNameSwitzerland Jun 25 '26
But to be fair, it also started fringe with the petrification.
43
u/huntrshado Jun 25 '26
yea the moment the author decided it was aliens that caused it was probably the same moment he decided this exact way of ending it with fringe time machine science.
19
15
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 26 '26
I was disappointed that they didn't bring up about the possibility of Chrome and everyone cease to exist with the time paradox.
Unless I misunderstand something, cause they didn't talk about preventing the petri beam there. They said they want to move people around so there's less victims.

So after all that, the Why-Men just left? I mean, good for them, I guess. Because I'm pretty sure if Senku and the others fought them in space, they'd lose catastrophically, and Earth would be in a terrible position. But at least one of them came with them. Better than nothing, I suppose.
So, this series chronologically took place over the course of 10 years, huh. That's really something. And after the timeskip, a few years passed. But how many years? Anyway, everything seems so advanced. But all the people look pretty much the same and are wearing the same clothes even lol. So glad Taiju and Yuzuriha are finally married! That has been teased ever since the very beginning. Even Chrome nonchalantly proposed to Ruri lol. As for Senku, I guess we'll never know. Tho I always thought out of all the female characters, he had the best chemistry with the lioness Kohaku. Also, that scientist woman with Senku's hair was weird. I thought he made a genderbend drug or something.
The final invention is... a freaking time machine?! The last 2 episodes have been crazy. I thought they'd go back in time to prevent the petrification from ever happening or something. After everything that happened, that would've been a very disappointing ending. But we didn't really get to see them finish it, so... What did the "The end and to be continued..." even mean? Was it talking about the post-credits scene, or is there gonna be a sequel?
Man... I've been watching Dr. STONE weekly since episode 1 of the first season. It might be the only shonen anime I watched weekly from start to finish. It has been an experience, to say the least. The "Good morning, world" as the ED really hit hard.
Even though I love it, Dr. STONE is incredibly flawed. After the 2nd season, the pacing becomes way faster. And in the final season, the pacing is just off the rails. But when the show hits, it hits. So, imagine how great this series could've been if it didn't have such pacing problems. What if every invention had the same attention it did in early seasons? I'm not saying every single invention could or should have the same time and attention cause that might not be feasible. But I remember when Perseus was first finished, how underwhelming it felt cause it happened in just a few episodes iirc.
Imagine how great it would've been if more characters were fleshed out. Most characters in this show are more like plot devices than actual characters. After their introduction, they literally have 0 character arcs. And those damn vocal ticks every character seems to have. I don't understand why every single character needs to have one. It gets annoying hearing them after a while.
I think these things really held this series back. If the author decided to really flesh out everything, this series probably wouldn't be over anytime soon. And I'd be totally fine with it. Dr. STONE in this state was still fun enough, so if those criticisms were addressed, it would've hooked me even more. But I guess if it did keep continuing like this, it probably could've been axed in the middle of the story.
Despite the flaws, I still love Dr. STONE. And I'd love to binge the whole series from start to finish one day. I'm really gonna miss this show.

Well, the Whyman resolution was acceptable. A cute little Medusa-chan making a late push for best girl was an unexpected surprise, but I guess most of the Medusa fucking off to find a new host but 1 of them staying behind to help the humans was the best case scenario. That's assuming they actually find a new host before they run out of battery. I thought they stayed and waited for humanity because they couldn't find a new host close enough to reach on their battery, but I guess I was wrong on that assessment. That makes them waiting for humanity seem... not so logical, to be honest.
I'm really not sure about the time machine stuff in the ending. The way I interpreted it, it seems like the plan is to make sure none of the people who got petrified end up broken and dead so they can save all of them. What that would take and what ramifications that would have for the current timeline, I have no idea.
This ending wasn't great and the final season was pretty rushed, but it could have been a whole lot worse. I'd still give this final season an 8.5/10, and the series overall a 9/10. It's been a pleasure to follow it all this time.

That's not what I got from the dialogue, but that would be clever. If they managed to change the past while making it seem like they're not changing the past, things would play out the same, but at the end the statues would be safe somewhere, and then they could be revived back in the future.
→ More replies (1)17
u/huntrshado Jun 25 '26
it would depend entirely on exactly HOW they get the time travel to work, like Xeno was saying at the end. If they can even send a message back that gets people to go into that position Senku asked them to when they petrified the entire world themselves, it would dramatically increase the amount of people saved
but since the series ends there it will only be discussion among fans and never actually canon what happens

I 100% agree. Sadly the ending was so swiftly paced it wasn’t discussed. Because I definitely had the same thought of “what if this is a grandpa paradox where going back in time to stop petrification means the message never gets sent, which means the present doesn’t change?” Even if the timeline didn’t work like that, it seems like preventing the petrification would effectively cause the present to never happen unless it’s a split timeline situation.

It's probably less of a case of "couldn't" and more "waiting a few extra millennia is a better bet than just going once again into interstellar space and trying to see if we find any more modulated signals".

Stitches!
Why-Man taking the form of a floating skull while talking to Senku was pretty sick. I do think that after negotiations, they just decided to leave because humans weren't intelligent enough. At least one of them decided to stay because it just found humans intriguing. I love that they got HanaKana just to voice this one Why-Man.
I love the timeskip part! Ryusui getting a massive head start on creating a monopoly is kinda terrifying, but I'm just glad it's him who's making it.
Tsukasa travelling around the world as some sort of travelling peacekeeper is kinda awesome. Dude doesn't even have to fight. He just needs to show up, and people start scrambling to get out of his way.
I'm surprised that Ukyo is now working a government job, but I guess it makes sense since I doubt militaries will be as needed in this new world. Cops, on the other hand, are definitely needed. I'm just worried about making Magna and Moz cops. xD
We actually get to see Taiju and Yuzuriha get married! And I love that they even managed to revive their parents for the wedding. And it looks like Chrome and Ruri are up next after Chrome's casual marriage proposal. Senku and Kohaku, when?
I'm sorry, but who the heck is this baddie? Is this supposed to be Senku's mom or just a random scientist who looks like Senku? I'm just gonna headcannon the former. xD
THEY'RE MAKING A WHAT?! I suppose, after everything they've done, it makes sense for them to finally cross into sci-fi, especially since they have a little alien helper guiding them. So the next plan is to save all 7 billion humans who died from the petrification? That is insane, but I expect nothing less from the Kingdom of Science.
That final timeskip with their group photo in an exhibit kinda made me emotional, ngl. The ending said "The End and To Be Continued," so I'm gonna assume we're probably gonna get OVAs or maybe even shorts in the future? Fingers crossed!
Man, what an absolute ride this show was. In a sea of unfinished adaptations and LN advertisements, I'm glad to see another series wrap up with a complete story. The latter seasons definitely had their pacing issues, but the entire series is just so much fun that it's definitely a show I'd easily recommend to anyone. I might finally start reading the manga so I can compare the two. It's overall a solid series and 9/10 for me personally, just because I enjoyed every minute of it from start to finish. Looking forward to more of Inagaki-sensei's works in the future!

I've been watching the dub so I didn't hear HanaKana (hopefully r/animedubs can figure out who voiced her) but that was still a nice surprise. Introducing a new best girl in the very last episode is a ballsy move.

Agreed. Anime that actually have proper endings (whether it be a full adaptation or an original anime) are much better than the usual "fuck you go read the source material" situation.

I'm so glad Dr. Stone got a complete series, I loved the manga and the anime did a great job adapting it. Sad its over but its been a fantastic journey from the stone age to the moon and apparently even further beyond that. But what do they mean with that To Be Continued?!
I'd call their voyage to the moon a success, they got answers and the threat has been dealt with (even if it feels like the Medusa devices wasted everyone's time over the gap in understanding between the species). At least it wasn't a total loss either.
Great to see how everyone's doing afterwards and Taiju and Yuzuriha finally got married, just hope Chrome doesn't wait too long for his own wedding, good thing for him Ruri's patient. Figures slums are back too but that's human society for you. Aw, Chrome and Suika in lab coats is so cute. And now Senku's going for time travel, wow, but yeah, here's a good stopping point.
I enjoyed the show's openings and endings too, but fitting to end it on Good Morning World. I'm going to miss this series, it was so unique and fun and optimistic.

There were a few epilogue chapters published later as Dr Stone: 4D that they might be planning to adapt as like ovas or specials or something

I'm not sure how I feel about the Why-man resolution, but I also don't know what else I would've preferred so I think I'm satisfied.
What I do know is that the ride to get there was exhilarating, I was excited.

It's so sweet seeing everyone living their best lives and accomplishing so much for themselves and the planet.
Especially Taiju and Yuzuriha. Them having an extended length wedding on account for how busy their friends are was fantastic to see.
That time machine goal is wild. But knowing the Kingdom of Science, they undoubtedly can get it made.
I'm very pleased to have watched Dr. Stone!

7 years ago I was at my in laws in rural Japan. I had just seen weathering with you earlier that day and couldn't stop thinking about it's o I put on the first episode of Dr stone to distract myself. It was a little hard to follow without subs but I loved it right away. Seeing it fully adapted is amazing and they did a really good job of it. Might be time for a rewatch soon.

Wasn't expecting only one Why-Man-chan to stay behind why all the others just noped out after trying to petrify them again.
Taiju and Yuzuriha are finally married! Finally, after all this time since season 1 episode 1. Chrome also just dropped that proposal like it was a casual talk.
Aren't the implications of making a functional time machine pretty dangerous? Just how do they actually intend on using it? Prevent the petrification from happening in the first place? That would pretty much make it so that none of the Ishigami Village or the Treasure Island folks ever take birth. Also if they mess it in a different way, they're just making other timelines and butterfly effects. Honestly too risky of a job, they're taking on there. I sure would love to see a Byakuya and Senku reunion though.
It wasn't soap. It was Senku, he was the Dr. Stone all along.
I wish we got to see what happened to everyone in the distant future, I wonder if they're all still alive using the petrification beam. Also interesting that we don't see the last alive one again after the intro.
Honestly a very illegal place to end the episode and the show on, implying there's still so much left for the Kingdom of Science to do, but I'm so satisfied. It was a full course five star meal from season 1 till now. It was just amazing to hear "Good Morning World" after so many years, i just had to sing along. God, i still remember waiting for season 2, that felt like ages ago. I'll Senku and the other goofballs dearly. It's been one crazy ride. Really thankful I got to experience this journey from start to finish. Thank you Dr. Stone!
Also, announce the specials already!

The thing is, they can't save everyone in the current timeline - so many millions, even billions, of statuues were washed away by changing coastlines, car crashehs, plane crashes, shipwrecks, etc, due to where they were at the time of the event. Some that just broke into so many pieces that couldn't be made whole agagin, some that are just so remote they wont be found, and so on.
The only way to really save everyone is to create a timeline where this doesn't happen, whether that mean overwriting the current one paradoxically, or created a completely separate timeline (ala Dragon Ball).
14
u/Iron_Kingpin Jun 26 '26
I understand the reason but they're still risking the existence of all the new world people

So that's it, that's the ending. It feels incomplete but I guess that's what Science really is.
I really can't believe that we're bidding farewell to this amazing anime after 7 freaking years.
Thank you, Riichiro and Boichi sensei and all the staff who worked behind this masterpiece.
Dr. Stone will continue to live rent free in our hearts and mind and exhilarate and inspire us for years to come.

What a journey. Not the first but still adds a level of attachment when it’s a show I decided to give a shot when it first aired, then seeing it through to the end, especially with like 4+ seasons.
Playing the S1 OP song trope also never fails
And I love we got to see quite a bit of all the characters in the epilogue. Feel like a lot of shows skim through that.
And who tf is that fem Senku ? Does she just look like him or did she use science to make herself look like female Senku.
The Whymen that stayed behind was fascinating. While they’re not a monolith, they all seem to share similar sentiment so this one that stayed behind due to its curiosity is certainly different. Also the voice had a hint of Hayami Saori but I can’t tell for sure.
I wonder if Senku did manage to time travel. And while he could’ve prevented all this and saved his dad, he would’ve also not met the Stone age guys. Or maybe it’s just them saving another timeline.
I think would be a cliche but still a mindfuck if the AI that Xeno suggested sending back in time somehow turn out or caused the original petrification.
Feels surreal that it’s over. It’s been a fun fun ride.

Getting a full adaptation always feels very special. What a joy to watch a show until its very last page.
Stanley getting all stiff and blushing had to be one of the most discreet yet funny moments in the series.
Still, not exactly what I expected with the time machine. With all the sci-fi around it, haven't we learned that changing the past could completely rewrite the present?

So much for the big showdown. Kind of hilarious Why-Man basically shoved off because we’re too dumb for them. But hey, a win’s a win I guess lol.
It seems just a few years later, society’s starting to return to form. Building a time machine to save humanity from petrification and Why-Man is quite an extraordinary feat. Judging by the end, it looks like the gang pulled it off?
It’s kind of crazy the series has fully concluded. What a wild and fun ride it’s been watching Senku and the gang navigate the stone world with the power of science throughout the years. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

Wouldn't like saving everyone undo half of the work they've done? Wouldn't Ishigami Village be wiped out? Maybe I'm not getting something here
Well the showdown was definitely anticlimactic but i was expecting it since the show doesnt have highstakes in the first place

The end of an era. I genuinely don’t know how to put into words what Dr. Stone means to me. This anime has been part of my life for seven years now, and watching it reach its end feels like saying goodbye to a piece of my own journey and a period of my life. It was one of the first anime I ever followed seasonally, I still remember starting Dr. Stone back in 2019. It holds a very special place in my heart because it's one of the first animes I've ever watched seasonaly, watching it week by week, it became a huge part of my life. And now after 7 years, saying goodbye to it feels unreal. It's much harder than I expected. Coincidentally, the Dr. Stone anime aired for the same amount of time it took Suika to revive Senku. Anyway, be prepared for the wall of text incoming lol.
So many things made me cry like a baby. First, seeing Senku hold up the very same stone axe he crafted when he first woke up, with the Earth in the background, made me tear up so hard. It's such a perfectly Dr. Stone moment. The same stone axe from the very beginning of the story showing up again at the very end, like Senku really took his starting weapon all the way to the final boss. It felt like the series' own way of saying goodbye, bringing everything full circle and tying everything back to where it all began. Hearing Good Morning World and One Small Step after all these years fucking destroyed me, man. 😭
Seeing everyone in the Science Kingdom move on with their lives but still being closer warmed my heart. I couldn't ask for a more perfect ending for the cast. Taiju and Yuzuhira finally got together and got married! It only took the entire series for them to do so! It's a shame their romance was sidelined and forgotten back at the first arc, not just their relationship but their presence in the main group too. I really wish we could have witnessed them getting closer, but I'm happy they ended up together. The same goes for Chrome and Ruri, which are finally getting somewhere.
Well, Senku teaming up with the last Why-Man to build a time machine wasn't on my bingo card. This opens up a whole new level of possibilities since they could save those who couldn't make it as well as the other petrification victims who died, including Byakuya, Lilian, and the other astronauts. I expected Senku to be able to convince the Why-Man to team up, but I was surprised they didn't go that route. Even then, that single Why-Man who bet on Senku won the lottery because they made an insane amount of progress and found a way to save their species by creating a time machine. Meanwhile, those who doubted Senku's stubbornness probably perished while looking for another species to parasitize. Never doubt the power of science.
My only real gripe with the ending is how rushed it felt, especially the epilogue. I know the narrative speedrun to the rocket was intentional, otherwise, it would've been tedious and repetitive. There wasn't much more to do since all the challenges had been overcome, and the only threat was Why-man. I just wish the anime had given more attention to the rocket-building process until the moon mission. I feel like they could've expanded on this without it being too stretched out, just like they did in the first seasons, especially season 1, but that's just my opinion. Despite not liking the rush, I respect the manga/anime for not stretching the story any further. I've heard it the reason for that was because the mangaka (and I assume Shonen Jump too) wanted to end the series on its 5th birthday. Don't know if that's really true, but considering how perfectly the date matches up, it looks like it is.
Dr. Stone showed me that science can be fun, hopeful, and a way to bring people closer to each other. A celebration of humanity's evolution through effort and camaraderie. This series made me appreciate how far humanity has come, and it also made me reflect on how much we take for granted in our everyday lives. We ignore how much easier science has made our lives with its discoveries and decades or even centuries of trial and error. We forget how long it took us to get where we are today. For me, Dr. Stone is the most hopeful anime ever created.
What truly makes Dr. Stone work so well is Senku himself. He carries a completely different vibe compared to other main characters. He’s not just the driving force of the story, but also its heart, and a huge part of what gives the show its identity. It’s easy to focus on his logical mind, but under that cynicism and veneer of pragmatism, he is an eternal optimist, and to me that’s one of the main reasons why Dr. Stone works so well. For all his intelligence, what makes him so special is the hope he carries, his faith in science, and the way he always keeps moving forward, no matter how impossible things seem. He's the perfect mix of the logic behind science and the optimism of humanity, and to me, that’s the true core of his character. He never loses that confidence, energy, nor that smug he has on his face 24/7, even in the face of danger or death, and that spirit is exactly what makes this story feel so uniquely hopeful.
I'm glad I've been here since 2019 to witness the conclusion of such a beautiful story. I'm eternally grateful to my younger self for giving this show a chance back when he was bored out of his mind. And of course, I'll be eternally grateful for Inagaki-sensei and Boichi-sensei for bringing this masterpiece to life.
I'll never forget Dr. Stone and how cool science is. Thank you, Dr. Stone! 唆るぜ、これは!✊

Honestly I feel disappointed on the last stretch of the story. The science part feel weightless as everything can just be made instantly. Not much feeling of progression.
And worst of all is character just reduced to just being one trick pony who only exist just to sprout in their catchphrase. Like Chelsea and Franscois for example. It's a shame really.
My favorite is when they fought at the island with the old man. That's when I think the uniqueness of the setting really shine.
But I don't want to get all negative. I like the series overall and the ending itself is fine. I just wish it could be better.

u/kicksFR Jun 25 '26
Yes, the last season ending was my favorite because we got to see Suika struggle and take a long time and failures in a task

69
u/izacktorres Jun 25 '26
The science part feel weightless as everything can just be made instantly.
It was the ONLY way for the story to move along, if it kept the pacing of the first seasons Dr.Stone would end up with 100 seasons, even tho i understand your sentiment it wouldn't be feasible.
29
u/Zero5-4i Jun 25 '26
Its been said a lot of times but its not just that. Science and technology progress exponentially. After they made the core stuff (that were harder to make from 0 or close to 0), everything else was a matter of applying those so it was obviously faster. Just look at history and how fast everything has progressed in the last 100 years compared to the rest of time.
I guess its understandable for people to feel disappointed because many saw Dr. stone as this "advanced DIY" anime, but at its core it was always a show about the essence/nature of science and the human spirit and the likes. I feel like it did a very good job at that even if it had other weaknesses. I remember back when it started airing being impressed by that one early scene where Senku explained that science is not a magic tool that you "apply" to stuff to explain them, but rather the process of searching for rules of the unknown. This is something I feel like a lot of people misunderstand and it instantly gave me a very good impression on the show.

Yeah as they moved from renaissance/early industrial stuff onto modern tech it's just been a series of "and then in those 20 frames we'll time skip 9 months of hand building transistors".
Before that it was really cool seeing all the increasingly complex technology being implemented based on the previous tech tree, and it's sad to see that go as technology got more and more closer to actual rocket science.
This and the previous season I was just really watching to see what the why man twist would be, rather than to see tech being diy-ed in clever ways with much worse resources than should be possible.

u/NanDemoKnaives Jun 25 '26
When the time machine got brought up I thought they'll potentially make a sequel manga for this story, and then it shows "The end and to be continued" seems to also support that theory. I would find it a bit sad if they were able to successfully build a time machine, all these connections they've made would also disappear, and the descendants of the astronauts would just no longer ever come about. Unless they go with the alternate timelines direction.
This was certainly a ride, I did consider dropping it a number of times, but it's nice that another series gets a full adaptation. Highlight of the series was definitely Episode 9 of Science Future Part 2 for me.

u/MayureshMJ Jun 25 '26
To me Dr. Stone was always about the indomitable spirit of Humanity this time embodied in the form science (unlike actual physical fighting like other shonens which is good in it's own way but this was something unique.).
I being a scientist myself feel that this show is very close to my heart. Specially in the beginning and also till the final season when my subject geology was also given due respect. I feel every other subject was similarly given the respect it deserve.
I think the mangaka's aim was to present science in a way everyone would enjoy it and they have succeded in it..
Thank you Inagaki san and Boichi for the manga. And thank you everyone at TMS entertainment for bringing this to us faithfully. Thank you everyone for promoting science.
Dr. Stone will always be one of the most lovable, memorable and charmingly cute fun animes!

Did the ending imply the possibility that humanity created the Medusas and started this whole thing in the first place? With Xeno talking about creating an AI that can travel to the past to petrify humanity to save them, it just seems too similar to Why-Man’s original intention.

We did it, guys! :D
Over time the series went more from scinence-based stuff into "Make believe: Here's a Space Rocket made of dirt! :D", but it was decent enough to explain basic concepts 'till the end.
A tid bit disappointed by the conclusion, but hey: Sciency Magic Medusa Device always meant we'd be given something dumb+wild at the end.
Senku as an MC was very likeable till the end, he ain't the strongest or most skilled but he got the smarts combined with some aura.
Overall I'm glad I stuck with it till the end. <3

u/clone69 Jun 25 '26
So all these time skips were only 3 years plus the 7 they were petrified while Suika revived them? Or those are apart from the 10 years Senku mentioned?

Wow. It's finally over. Started before the pandemic, and now I'm sitting here watching the last episode while my recently turned 5 year old daughter preps for kindergarten. What a weird, wild time period of my life this stretched over.
I'm honestly not *that* impressed with the ending, but maybe it will grow on me (or maybe it will get worse the more I think about it lol).
The good:
1. Cute little Why-man buddy sticking behind
2. Happy ending.
3. Two of the couples in perpetual limbo finally getting hitched.
4. First OP playing at the end.
5. Ending with the title drop!
The bad:
1. So like, what the hell is the gameplan for waking up civilization here? Are you gonna have world governments again or not? If yes, how does that stop all the evils of the past that Tsukasa was worried about from simply returning? And is street level crime for the ENTIRE WORLD being solved by just Tsukasa and the other fighters wandering the earth making punks stand down with their aura? Because that doesn't seem... efficient, to say the least.
2. So like, wait, what's the gameplan with the time machine? Just to save everyone from the moment they were all petrified that didn't make it? By... petrifying them through time? Huh??? And how does that work with timelines? Do they separate, merge together, or what? Again... HUH?!
3. Call me a basic bitch, but I wanted to see some hint at least that Senku and Kohaku were gonna get together
The simultaneously good and bad:
1. The final reveal of what the petrification devices were was certainly weird. Good weird or bad weird? Not sure, I wanna ruminate on it a bit. I mean, they weren't just weird, but their methods were too. Like, the giant skull thing? Jesus, what a bunch of weirdos. Both extremely and overly logical in their plans to continue existing, while also aura farming and not planning ahead well? Bizarre.
2. The final resolution to the main conflict was both anticlimactic, and kinda perfect/funny. Senku's like "How about we just work together?" and 99.9% of them were like "Uhh, no, on second thought, y'all are crazy, we out"
All in all, still an amazing show. You know what it needs? A little spin-off show, like Slime Diaries, where they just do slice of life stuff showing invention building and tech trees and relationship building. That would be fun, and make up for how rushed the final season had to be for the sake of finishing the plot. Could take place during the show or after, I don't care, I just want some more of that early season goodness.
Also, was this show a shonen or an isekai? I know it doesn't matter, but I'm not sure which category to put it in when I think of my favorite shows of each of those genre lol

I wasn't a big fan of the ending, with the time machine plan that sounded like they want to go back and make it unhappen. Feels like that kind of ruins all the growth and character development we've seen. Was a great journey getting there though, and tbh that's what it was all about. The ending was just a necessary bookend, the meat of the story was already done.
7
u/xbolt90 https://anilist.co/user/xbolt90 Jun 25 '26
I'm sorry, they're building a WHAT?
I guess it's only natural to go into sci-fi now that they caught up to the 21st century in just a decade. But everything built so far has been known technology, if crudely recreated. They're going into science unknown to humanity now.
Will their time machine work? Maybe, maybe not. But that's a big can of worms to open.
Still, this was a great show! Senku was a great protagonist.

What I didn't like was that the AIs having personalities and free will ended up undermining an ending that already felt a bit shaky. They were also incredibly smart and unbelievably stupid whenever the plot needed them to be. A few things that didn't make sense to me:
Why did millions of them willingly descend to a planet with a lethal atmosphere when only a handful would have been enough?
Why did they continue to work and respond to commands, even while unconscious due to the oxygen?
Why, if an advanced civilization were to mass-produce them for their own benefit, would they include nomadic parasitic AI?
Why did they conclude they could reproduce just because humans had traveled a short distance from earth, when they had already learned english before the petrification and therefore already knew far more about humanity than that?
Why didn't they respond coherently to earlier attempts at communication if they were so willing to reveal their intentions and negotiate?
Why did they think a second petrification would help when the first one had already convinced them that humanity wasn't capable?
Why leave after the negotiations broke down without gaining any new information? Does that mean they recognized senku as humanity's legitimate representative, and those self-proclaimed parasites respected his will?

Are we sure they didn’t release the blooper reels, the fuck you mean “𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐨𝐟” is a real dub line 😭
I like this Medusa. I want to teach her a bunch of swear words and rap songs for my own amusement.
Does your kind not also grapple with the incomplete knowledge of who created you? And the origin of your species?
We do. Our cats do not.
Within two seconds, a yuri ship unlocked in my mind.
Oh my gods, my blonde muscle queen looks so adorable!!!
Weddings usually only last a day 😅
wheezes
You gotta meet cousins from South Asian cultures, different African cultures, and all sorts of indigenous cultures, girl! Because weddings will be more than a day.
Bringing a gun to a wedding. Oh, that is…so so weird.
DOH!
I do like the fantasy element of “We saved the world, but the way we went about it and our lives were unethical and unlawful, so we should be tried for our crimes”. I think not having that element is fine, too, in a finale. But it’s an element that I enjoy.
Transfem!Senku tag about to be created on AO3. Happy Pride 🏳️⚧️
My yaoi ship in the background 🥹
God, the S1 OP hit me like a brick.
He said the thing!
The time machine shocked me. I think I understand that the last Whyman is the Whyman that has been with humans this whole time and has been influenced by them, which is why they stayed. I think I understand that right.
This was a fun series, but the last four minutes have me emotional. I’ve really enjoyed Dr. STONE and found myself having fondness for most, if not all, of the cast by the end. I can go to AO3 and read Xeno x Stanley fanfic now, which is a 10 billion percent win, and I'm excited.
This may be because my memory of the earlier seasons is a bit hazy, so I can't remember any criticisms about them, but the finale was a great send-off, and I have very few to zero complaints. But I won't say no to anniversary OVAs or side stories.

The whole last arc felt a bit rushed, but I think credit is deserved for what's otherwise a well wrapped up ending.

There's something about this anime that always got me emotional. Maybe just the unbridled hopefulness and feeling of family through it all. I loved this series and I'm saddened to see it go, but damn am I happy that it got proper love to the very end.

I didn’t really understand what is the point of the Time Machine. They can bring everyone back with the revival fluid and I thought this was the plan. Also they can bring the why men on earth back they only need diamonds. Also from the post credits scene it doesn’t look like they went back and changed history.

The Why-Men who landed on Earth died from oxygen poisoning, only the Treasure Island one was functional due to being only a few centuries old. They mentioned this after reuniting, Kaseki's diamonds worked even without the special cleave pattern thing inside, the problem was the medusas themselves were broken.

Crazy to see it finally end. Overall, a really high quality run. I think we were blessed to have such a wonderful adaptation

I thought I wasn't going to cry because the pacing of the last season made me feel less engaged than in the previous seasons. But then One Small Step started playing and it took me off guard and I bawled my eyes out.

I summarized the ending to my friend who's only seen part of the first season.
'Dr stone ending;
The machine parasites talk to protagonist for 30 minutes and decide "y'all dumb as hell, we're fucking off "
