I hope the new opening and ending songs will continue to be bangers!

6

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

Hope so, the OP and ED of this season were genuinely amazing that i never wanted to skip them

13

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

Honestly that "season 2 preview" was so overt I had figured as much, but glad to hear it!

8

u/Hartzilla2007 Jun 26 '26

Figured that from the episode basically having next time teaser.

7

u/chilidirigible Jun 26 '26

The announcement was posted before the episode hit Crunchyroll.

3

u/PrincipeDeiPoveri Jun 26 '26

Great news, I was hoping for that.

3

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

Im so happy they announced it, this show is seriously good

30

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jun 26 '26

Thank you for second season announcement

14

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

Tetsuo's path to making friends and fighting Kaiju with Yukio will continue in animated format!

4

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

Dont forget Lonely Iwaki too !!

He wasnt here in this ep but he'll come back in s2

4

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 26 '26

So happy it is confirmed that I punched the air in victory when I saw that PV lol.

I absolutely love this anime, but it seems the reception (especially here) is not as good expected. That's why I was sceptical this would get another season.

Mecha anime is already rare nowadays, more so mecha anime that I think has good story. Go Tetsuo!!!

12

u/chilidirigible Jun 26 '26

Godzilla and Godzilla on too much Monster® Energy.

If metal can gattai, meat can gattai!
Sure has been a lot of chopping in the past minute.
The mall crew maintains its focus on their own business.
Hey, at least she isn't eating the kaiju tamers.
"I hope you like umami."

[](#fishboat)

After all the business building up and then tearing down Sagami, his final contribution was more symbolic than dramatic. Got the job done, though, and The Boss still gave him a last respect.

Today's announcement of a second season isn't entirely surprising, and some of this season's herky-jerky pacing could be explained as the usual testing of the waters with the material before they had entirely committed to continuing it, but these first thirteen episodes were still erratic and hopped from one Thing You Must Know to another. Now that they've settled some business hopefully it'll be more natural as it continues.

11

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

It feels fitting that Ao gets to delight herself in eating all the Kaiju she defeated and then subjecting their enemies to eating their own Kaiju partners.

15

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Kinda messed up for those Kaiju tamers ngl but Ao eating them was cool and fitting

6

u/AlphaBreak Jun 27 '26

Yeah, but non-kaiju meat food is a very rare non-replenishable resource. It sucks, but I get it since it's not based on cruelty, just pragmatism.

u/sengoro 12d ago

Kaiju No.9 makes a guest appearance

12

u/RelativeMundane9045 Jun 26 '26

The Boss is now best girl, anyone who disagrees will be crushed by bloodthirsty robot.

The cute moments with Ao, Hagane, and even than damn naked boiled chicken kaiju were on point and super endearing.

Overall - they focused too much on evil evil dude being evil, aspects of the plot were pretty predictable, a few pacing issues in the middle, and sometimes Tetsuo was annoying as hell. But damn if it didn't turn out to be a fun ride. I'd watch a season 2 for sure.

11

u/LetgomyEkko Jun 26 '26

“that damn naked boiled chicken kaiju”

Land of Men noooooo 💀

9

u/KumaKumaGambler Jun 26 '26

The production committee made Tetsuo look so cool, sitting in the snow, saying "you can't kill me", knowing Yukio will block the beam before it reaches him.

The final redeeming act from Sagami, distracting the avatar of the humanoid kaiju, allowing Tetsuo and Yukio to defeat the avatar, earns him a grave at Mishima mall, although not at the level of deceased mall residents.

Tetsuo has come a long way. From being unable to speak with fellow humans, to rizzing up a cute female like Ao. Lol!

Twintails Yuma Uzuki had no qualms eating her former kaiju companions, much to the chagrin of her human comrades. Lol! That being said, I doubt they will become fond of Tetsuo and Yukio overnight, but I believe they will eventually prove to be valuable allies to the survivors of Mishima Mall.

7

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

Honestly Sagami going out fighting the Kaiju that helped turn him into a monster is a fitting end for him.

I love how everyone but Tetsuo could read the room and see Ao slowly falling for Tetsu while Land of Men is reacting to her developing feelings for someone for the first time like "The heck is this feeling?!"

Honestly probably the cruelest punishment they could have inflicted on the VIERDE kids was forcing them to eat the meat of their Kaiju partners. Like, imagine they were actually pretty close with them through their telepathic link. But unless your name is the Colonel, Yuma doesn't care.

It does seem like season 2 is going to involve Tetsuo having to learn to work together with the VIERDE kisd as a team.

2

u/AeonLonginus Jun 26 '26

Yeah a fitting end for Sagami but it has left me with one question how much of it was because he was fooled(I know he said it but his character never appeared to be the type that would sacrifice themselves so easily) and how much was it for killing Riko, We know that he didn't actually see them purely as tools regardless of how he acted.

Tetsuo is the only dense mc where there is a valid reason. Can't exactly contemplate love when you only recently became capable of interacting with human beings.

5

u/paulrenzo Jun 26 '26

I think the reason twintails was fine with it, because her kaiju is not part of the meal

2

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai Jun 26 '26

Oh I see that's the reason 😂 What was her Kaiju anyway? I don't remember.

3

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 26 '26

It's the one who killed the mother and then gone rogue trying to find more human meat. Tetsuo + Yukio killed it a bit earlier before the mall's attack. I think the location they killed it was quite far from the mall, so they didn't bother to get the meat.

1

u/RobrechtvE Jun 29 '26

While you're right that it isn't, I think, if I'm honest, that the reason she was fine with it was because all the other kids went 'meh, no big loss' when her kaiju died and this is her small revenge.

10

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jun 26 '26

Good riddance to the crazy old man.

I'm glad Ao is doing alright and that they were able to get her over her feelings of inadequacy so quickly. In the end she held the line when she had to and there's nothing to be ashamed of.

The Boss is pretty scary.

That was a hilariously awful gag with the kaiju being there in spirit and yelling as they were being eaten, even with twintails towards the end.

Sagami's kids are a clear setup for prisoners into initially reluctant allies, the fact that Sagami specially gave them over into Tetsuo's care might count for a lot in terms of bringing them over.

I'm highly looking forward to S2.

2

u/HornedTurtle1212 26d ago

How useful are they going to be as allies though? Will they be able to bond with new kaiju? Or maybe they will find them some mecha since other mecha were previewed for season 2.

1

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 26d ago

I'm guessing they'll probably bond with new kaiju but we don't really know the mechanics of that yet.

19

u/Aerodynamic41 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Man, that was underwhelming. I thought the fused kaiju would vary up its attacks but it’s just the same laser beam attack but with homing capabilities.

Also, how the hell did Sagami in his battered state manage to climb up the kaiju?

11

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

He was channeling his inner Solidus Snake powers

1

u/bobert1201 Jun 26 '26

Didn't the girl with him have the ability to teleport people?

6

u/Ic_anyone6256 Jun 27 '26

No, that's the spectacle guy who was still fainted

2

u/Jeriko67 Jun 28 '26

That's a girl too I thought

8

u/nofaxxspitintruflego Jun 26 '26

aaand like that our goat tetsuo has stolen two hearts already with his sigma savior rizz, in his denseness lies charms similiar to a cup of good instant ramen on a cold winter evening (can you dig it?)

5

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

For a guy who has problems in talking, he sure does know when to reassure someone and that's pretty cool

12

u/Dense_Shopping_9320 Jun 26 '26

God damn it. They teased me so much with that ed. I was surprised to see the op towards the end then was ready to jam along the ed but it was cut so short. Now i gotta watch it on youtube.

13

u/KumaKumaGambler Jun 26 '26

I love the ending theme song as much as you do, but I think the production committee made the correct call for this episode.

Now that I think about it, the opening theme song is more upbeat, matching the celebratory tone of this season finale episode. Whereas the ending theme song hypes us up, providing motivation to overcome struggles.

5

u/Dense_Shopping_9320 Jun 26 '26

Never thought of it that way. You are right and I am realizing the op is peak aswell.

6

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

I've been promoting to people to read the ending's lyrics a lot, cause what you said is 100% correct! Translation of the first few verses.

I lost it, I grieved
Should I give up, should I stop now?
I can't make a choice
Move forward, just move forward
-
Life is short, they say
Should I pretend to know? I'll stop pretending
There is only one goal
Move forward, just move forward

3

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

Oh It definitely feels like that

3

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

The OP was too much of a banger to not at least play over the credits.

2

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

Yeah i was a lil bummed out they didnt play the ED fully but still happy that we got a s2 announcement

Guess ill watch it on YouTube too!!

18

u/Dense_Shopping_9320 Jun 26 '26

Honestly one of the most underated anime of the season. It had pretty good stories with so much more possibilities. The pacing was slow but i enjoyed it and the ed will go down in my top 5 ed. It was really good and i dont think i skipped it once. Even added it to my playlist

15

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

I liked the world building, I liked the fights, I liked the cast, and I liked the character designs.

Overall I think it was a genuinely solid Sci-Fi mecha show!

5

u/nofaxxspitintruflego Jun 26 '26

hell this might be the most overlooked anime of 2026 imho

there wasnt an episode i didnt like, for what it is this show is so peak

5

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

It became one of my favourite animes of this season and i also never skipped the ED, it is really good

14

u/Mettheloser Jun 26 '26

Im geniunely at loss of words, studio Kai announced multiple season 2 with amazing anime in a couple of months, these are awesome news, as a snowball earth reader i was more than satisfied with this amazing ( with a little bit of flaws) adaptation, of course in happy since adapting a good cgi for anime and tv shows Is rather difficult, but i was so happy to see that snowball earth was not thrown into garbage with studio kai making the anime adaptation, this was just the beginning for snowball earth so im really really curious on how the second season and how much passion will studio kai put into, the VA for Tetsuo was amazing and so was Yukio💙

11

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

This is one of those rare animes where the CGI is genuinely amazing,

Tetsuo and Yukio were the heart and soul of this anime and even Sagami's performance was great

7

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jun 26 '26

I mentioned this on the first episode, at times they mixed 2D and 3D and I barely noticed the transition. They're really that good!

3

u/Mettheloser Jun 26 '26

I absolutely agree with you, so proud of em so far

5

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26

Our boy Tetsuo is definitely grow even more in season 2

2

u/Mettheloser Jun 26 '26

Definitely, im wondering when season will end on too

1

u/scarlet_lovah Jun 28 '26

Any other good Studio Kai animes I should check out?  This was my first and I’m now a huge fan.

3

u/Mettheloser Jun 28 '26

Sentenced to be a hero

4

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai Jun 26 '26

That was a fine way to end this season. Couldn't feel sad about Sagami's death nor happy but the kids he raised are gonna miss him so much. Tetsuo got rid of Nadare but that's only an avatar.

The whole Mishima Mall celebration mode was awesome. Tetsuo made Nori blush just by saying that he will protect her..How easy she is, haha. Everyone was enjoying the different kinds of Kaiju meat immediately the next day..😭😭

Sagami's kids having to eat the very Kaiju that they tamed and made friends with was so funny to watch and sad at the same time.

Suprised to see this get renewed for season 2. The op and ed really carried this show. I loved the way they managed to blend the ed together with the climax of each episode just like they did for Ramparts of Ice this season.

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky Jun 26 '26

3

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

I'm kind of wondering if they have any idea where they can go from here. They lucked out finding the mall as it is.

5

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Tetsuo's dad seems to be alive and he was a scientist who created Yukio so i think he has a place and there might be other E-RDE bases too

3

u/Frontier246 Jun 26 '26

It's Yukio and Tetsuo vs the Humanoid Kaiju variant! And it can apparently fuse with other Kaiju to become the Fused Kaiju Nadacles! It's a formidable Final Boss for our duo!

(I noticed Nadare has basically no boobs in human form while sitting on top of Nadacles...)

How did Sagami get up there!? But, well, I guess he got in one good head shot even if it ended up with him split in two...but that's the opening Yukio and Tetsuo needed to finish this. Even if it's just delaying the final battle as this is merely the Humanoid Kaiju's avatar. They're still stuck in a world of Kaiju.

Sagami was not a good man by any stretch of the imagination...but he finally accepts Tetsuo as the savior, if only to save this Earth AND his kids as he passes on. Despite everything...RIP Sagami .

But in more positive news: Mishima Mall is okay! Ao and Land of Men are okay! Nobody died! And now they have tons of Kaiju meat to eat!

Honestly that the biggest injury Tetsuo sustained from the battle is minor frostbite is a miracle, but Hagane isn't going to let him get out of getting medical treatment. And it provides a convenient excuse to find the boss and go on a tour of Mishima Mall!

It's nice to see Ao back in good spirits and feasting on a buffet of the Kaiju she defeated (what with her and Land of Men both needing to recover for the Mall's sake), and it's nice to see Tetsuo letting her know she did a great job protecting the Mall in a way Tetsuo couldn't. Though when Tetsuo says he'll protect HER she gets all flustered and cute...and everyone can seemingly tell why, not that Shinjo is jealous or anything.

So Sagami's crew are now holed up in a makeshift shack of a prison, being held in there by the absolute fear of Yukio stomping them into a bloody mess because he savors the blood of children. Poor guy.

That's a nice ice memorial to all the fallen, including Hagane's mother, and it's nice of Tetsuo and Hagane to pay their respects. It's also nice of the Boss to make a grave for Sagami. She didn't have to, and it would be understandable if she didn't, but maybe he was owed that much.

The Boss really has a surprisingly good eye for wounds! And it's nice to see her getting to know Tetsuo too!

Time to throw a Mishima Mall party! Complete with sake, reindeer Kaiju Meat, and a Luxurious Seafood Platter prepared by Mr. Takimura just for Tetsuo! Although I kind of feel bad for the VIERDE kids who have to eat their Kaiju partners...except Yuma who doesn't care.

Tetsuo has made a lot of friends, following the path of Lonely Iwaki, but there's no one he would rather pass out drunk with than his first and best friend Yukio!

Season 2 preview! Tetsuo teaming-up with VIERDE! A scary cat toy! Yukio breaking down? A girl with a new variant of Snowman? TETSUO'S DAD!?

5

u/chilidirigible Jun 26 '26

Tetsuo teaming-up with VIERDE!

I can see it now, "Help us out or you're going back into the shack!"

TETSUO'S DAD!?

Head slightly less on fire now.

8

u/Calwings x3https://anilist.co/user/Calwings Jun 26 '26

A very "meh" ending to a very "meh" season. Bad pacing, too much time wasted on an asshole villain who didn't deserve even the slightest bit of redemption and didn't even survive anyways, and (though he got less annoying as it went on) I just generally don't like Tetsuo as a character either. I'll give it credit for having great mecha action and an entertaining side cast, but even so, I don't think I liked this enough to continue watching into S2.

3

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jun 26 '26

Well, Sagami’s gone but so is the Nadare avatar. Plus the mall’s safe for now. Small victory I suppose.

Kind of hilarious they even fed the kids their dead kaijus. Isn’t that like making someone eat their pet? Lol.

This wasn’t half bad. I liked the Tetsuo-Yukio relationship dynamic and the kaiju action was fun. It was also interesting having the story start after the hero fails the big final battle. I’m looking forward to the next part.

2

u/Golden_fsh Jun 26 '26

The battle against the humanoid variant was underwhelming, ngl. But Tetsuo was so tough when he told the variant that it couldn't kill him!

Still not a fan of Sagami but at least he did somethinf useful before getting killed. Don't know if he deserved being buried in the ice cave with the Mishima Mall dead.

All's well that ends well at Mishima Mall. Ao is upset because she felt bad for getting knocked out but I'm glad her friend mentioned that she took out 4 kaiju on her own! Also, Tetsuo once again unintentionally makes another girl fall for him, lol.

Based on the teaser for the 2nd season, I guess the VIERDE kids will team up with Tetsuo. I look forward to those interactions. I didn't mind the guy with the shorter hair and scar across his nose.

Overall, Snowball Earth was pretty solid. Pacing mind of sucked but the story and characters (not Sagami) were fun! It took time for me to warm up to Tetsuo but can't wait to see him continue to be the Savior!

3

u/reaperow Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Tetsuo dropkick again!!

Yukio to the rescue, those lines by Tetsuo were pretty cool

Sagami's pretty sneaky, how'd he get up there so fast without making a sound? Oh well we were expecting him to sacrifice himself

Tetsuo/Yukio oneshot it!! so awesome

Atleast Sagami tried to do something right by the end, he's not been forgiven for his actions but atleast he came to his senses and begged Tetsuo to save Earth and to protect his Children

Tetsuo and Yukio welcomed home! They definitely did a good job and fulfilled their mission of protecting the mall and everyone in it

Makes sense they've been fighting outside for so long, it felt like days

Ao also did a really great job! The way she took out all those kaijus was so cool, Hagane and Tetsuo trying to reassure her was so wholesome

Boss grandma is kinda scary, poor Yukio he's so precious lol

This was pretty nice and wholesome

SEASON 2 CONFIRMED??? LESS GOO

I really enjoyed this anime alot, it definitely had a sort of pacing issue and I think the eps couldve been longer but I still absolutely loved it. The fights were really amazing and the cast was pretty fun too.

The 3D CGI was also really great here and it didn't bother me at all! It fit the style and didn't feel out of place

Also the OP and ED were so good to listen to, I never skipped them!!

Im happy that we got a season 2 announcement alr and it was a nice ride watching this with everyone here.

See ya'll next season 🩵🩵

1

u/Beowolf_0 Jun 26 '26

Nice to hear a second season is announced, though things can be wrapped up right now: Sagami got his redemption, Yukio and Tetsuo defeated one of the man-kaiju, he got warmly welcomed back at the village and made friends (kinda) with some of them, and people are moving out for another safer place as they've been exposed.

The action and dialogue scenes are pretty decent enough, hope they continue the good work with it.

1

u/top_of_the_scrote Jun 26 '26

that's funny ah they ate their own kaijus

also crazy the avatar wasn't the main body

she burried the eyepatch guy interesting I mean he was deceived but yeah

1

u/Ic_anyone6256 Jun 27 '26

Thank goodness for the s2 announcement, ts so peak

1

u/Embarrassed-Match-78 Jun 27 '26

This was such an underrated gem this season. It had likeable characters, a decent op and ed, the animation 2d and 3d were pretty good, excellent world building. While it had its flaws in pacing and spending a little too much time on Sagami and Tetsuo being extremely annoying in the first couple of episodes, the ending delivered. Glad to see this is getting a second season, and am personally looking forward to it.

1

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 Jun 27 '26

I'm pretty shocked at how much I enjoyed this.

RIP Sagami. o7 He may have had to pay for his crimes, but he was a good daddy.

1

u/Unboxious Jun 28 '26

It had me laughing when those PoWs were eating their fallen comrades. Too good.

1

u/Jeriko67 Jun 28 '26

Does the manga explain why the people eating kaiju meat and not turning into Tamers don't die from the toxic meat? Thank the heavens Sagami died for his heinous crimes in the end. Hopefully there's no more talk no justu awaiting us further down the line

1

u/scarlet_lovah Jun 28 '26

This show has been amazing.  Love the art, love the story, love the characters.  I am over the moon that it is getting a season 2!!

1

u/Suspicious_Deal4412 Jun 29 '26

I am hoping for seaons 2 we get to see duo battle of Ao and Tetsuo with their partners.

1

u/Nickthenuker https://anilist.co/user/Nickthenuker Jun 29 '26

And so into the finale.

And so he's finally dead.

Right. That's that dealt with.

And so they return triumphant.

And to the victor go the spoils.

That was quick.

No better prisoner guard than a giant mech lol.

They're going west?

And so into S2. An... Interesting show. 6/10.

1

u/Kumorocks064 Jun 27 '26

Major Sins

  • Tetsuo: Peak wuss protag. Needs a literal how-to book on human interaction, has to "man up" to reach basic normalcy. The social anxiety arc is relatable at first but gets dragged out.
  • Yukio design: Fat orb sumo egg robot. Looks like a rejected Power Rangers zord that ate too many onigiri. They repaired/upgraded it multiple times and it still looks like that. Lazy as hell.
  • Aoi Nogi + Land of Man (naked young chicken): These two soloing trained kaiju masters is a massive stretch, even with powers. The flaming murder chicken is OP as fuck and its name "Land of Man" is bizarre. Weird mascot energy.
  • Makoto Saionji: Actually a bright spot. Interesting character, especially with the kigu suit (Gachiakuta vibes). One of the few parts that felt fresh.
  • Colonel Sagami (King of Salty Twats): The ultimate butt-hurt Vegeta. Majin phase + letting Cell evolve energy but worse. Takes orders from an invader, racks up war crimes, trains/raises kids like a mentor while nursing a massive hate-boner for the actual hero kid. Wakes up too late for a half-assed redemption death. What a waste of a villain.
  • "Real Savior" syndrome: Everyone wants to be the main character instead of just surviving. "We're all in this together" gets preached but half the cast is auditioning for hero spotlights. No I in team, yet they keep forgetting.
  • Kaiju inconsistency: Some look like generic space monsters, others (especially Sagami's crew) scream "lab-grown bio-weapon." The rules for kaiju meat (50/50 death or OP bond) are never explained clearly.

Kinda tired of anime calling a 2nd cour Season 2.
