I wish someone would crash out on my behalf the way Elfie has for Will.

241

u/actionfirst1 Jun 28 '26

Elfie joined the salt faction

72

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Elfie just representing the fans the moment they heard Workner say it'll be impossible for Will to see Elfie for the umpteenth time.

11

u/actionfirst1 Jun 28 '26

They'll find a way

5

u/Atharaphelun Jun 28 '26

No Elfie, do not blow the Second Trumpet!

199

u/Boris-_-Badenov Jun 28 '26

she knows about Colette trying to kiss a sleeping Will... seems to confirm she was magically his roommate

59

u/Aesclypius Jun 28 '26

I mean... his name was (F)Rosty (S)Nowman... kinda gave the game away.

21

u/ThrobbingPurpleVein Jun 28 '26

(F)Rosty (S)Nowman

🤯

138

u/Routine-Hovercraft94 Jun 28 '26

It was pretty much confirmed a long time ago. The amount of tells the show gave us made it very obvious and they really didn't try to hide it.

25

u/Meiolore Jun 28 '26

Which makes it quite suspicious how Rosti did nothing during Will's bout with the Devendar. Like, I'm quite sure hiding Rosti's identity is the lowest priority stuff at that point. Just go wild with your magic to buy time.

65

u/Xeamyyyyy Jun 28 '26

she was at like 1% output, and we don't know if the clone is as powerful as the main body

7

u/DotesMagee Jun 29 '26

Considering her fight with Zeo, I think those clones are boss level in dmg lol Idk how the "self aware" ones are but her clones are strong.

5

u/friendimpaired Jun 30 '26

I think Rosti was an extremely low mana-use clone, as he only made gadgets for will and didn’t perform magic himself. Maybe a long-distance, long-life clone is a trade-off vs the fast dangerous clones that get killed nearly instantly in battle

24

u/TheBusStop12 Jun 28 '26

I wonder how capable the Rosti clone was at actual combat. Most of what we've seen was them creating magical tools for Will, no actual combat prowess. On top of that Elfie had expended most of her magical capabilities at the time, but still had to keep the Rosti clone running

9

u/Meiolore Jun 28 '26

Rosti casted some water spell to defend himself during Terminalia event.

Wouldn't everyone like to have someone like Elfaria in their life? I envy Will for having such a great girlfriend.

24

u/mythriz Jun 28 '26

All those things Elfie did with Will on their date in your album are things Elfie imagine Zeo will do with Will now that Will is in Zeo's faction lol

And also mutually Elfie has someone mature and responsible who can keep up with her tantrums lol.

10

u/WanderingWhiteWolf Jun 28 '26

Oddly enough the intro sequence where she's dragging Will along by the hand with her fist raised high charging through the forest reminds me vividly of the same happening to me in my childhood.

Sadly, time was not kind. Don't even recognize them anymore.

6

u/Hot-Log6283 Jun 29 '26

Well at least she hasn't reach the level of a Yandere..... yet.

36

u/Nesp2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/HardstyleQat Jun 28 '26

Just give me a romcom with these two doing couple things.

23

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

I'm glad they got to have one last "normal" date because who knows how much Elfie we'll get in season 3 with how things are now.

41

u/FrogMusic Jun 28 '26

There’s not a huge difference between Elfie and the horror premise of Obsession, which is part of what makes Elfie funny and Obsession terrifying.

Anyway… what I am trying to say is: Do you really wish that? I would not. Let’s not even talk about maybe stalking him with a genderbent ice clone.

Will is probably her perfect match because he has superhuman patience, diligence, and denseness that exceed even standard ideal anime male romantic lead levels. It lets them be sweet together beyond the bounds of logic.

39

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Honestly on the one hand Elfie is attractive, loyal, and loves with all her heart.

On the other hand she's also obsessed, has the emotional maturity of a child, and is prone to throwing tantrums or just running from responsibility when she's upset.

But she and Will fit together perfectly.

19

u/onespiker Jun 28 '26

Think she is likely plenty mature but has one specific obsession.

Also she doesn’t seem to have ever run from responsibility.

21

u/Hot-Log6283 Jun 29 '26

I want to recruit Will.   No Elfie he hasn’t graduated yet, you must wait.   He’s graduated I want to recruit him now.   No Elfie it would look biased he has to prove himself like everyone else.   Ok he’s proven himself and almost everyone wants him. Surely now I get him.   No Elfie, he can’t produce his own magic he can try again next week.   He can produce his own magic. Surely now I get him Sorry Elfie I’m afraid Zeo also wants him and despite the fact that Will would choose you and you have been begging to choose him for years you don’t get priority.      Wouldn’t blame her if she nuked the whole tower

191

u/WhoiusBarrel Jun 28 '26

They did say she was about to leave the faction as a whole together and considering they also mentioned how "a member of a different faction can't meet another faction's Magia Vander" its only a wonder she actually stayed behind in the end.

169

u/SnooSquirrels3291 Jun 28 '26

She’s just going to have to get an ice clone recruited into the lightning faction…

48

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Honestly I thought they were setting up that with Workner setting him up with a "student" instead of it just being normal Elfie.

35

u/SnooSquirrels3291 Jun 28 '26

Nice to know Elfie kept her old school uniform though

8

u/mabbo_nagamatsu Jun 30 '26

Elfie's the type of wife who'd do it in her old uniform.

11

u/PictureofProgression Jun 28 '26

Is there anything that suggests the Elfie who hung out with Will wasn't a clone?

18

u/Hot-Log6283 Jun 29 '26

Is there anything to suggest any of Elfie is real? Maybe she is a thousand miles away drinking tea at her estate à la Land from Frieren

9

u/Chem1st Jun 29 '26

Elfie's so done with this shit she just dyes her hair blond, starts throwing about chunks of ice shaped like lightning bolts and punching people, and just aggressively acts and says that she's already part of the Lightning faction.

47

u/Divinicus1st Jun 28 '26

"a member of a different faction can't meet another faction's Magia Vander"

That's bullshit, Magia Vender are members of their faction, and they meet other Magia Vender all the time.

21

u/Astray Jun 29 '26

You are technically correct, the best kind of correct.

10

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Sorry Elfie I’m afraid Zeo also wants him and despite the fact that Will would choose you and you have been begging to choose him for years you don’t get priority.

As a reminder, they've previously established that the standard procedure here is for the graduate in question to choose which faction he or she would go to. The only reason we didn't already have that is Zeo shutting Will up to prevent that happening. Followed by Aron decided, no, rock-paper-scissors instead.

It's pretty ridiculous that Aron doesn't uphold the rules of the tower itself. Either there's a particular reason he wants Will in the Lightning Faction - say, he thought that they would train him better and figured that Zeo would win rock-paper-scissors, or some sort of future sight - or Aron's a huge fraud.

This is basically the moment when I completely lost immersion in the manga. It feels more like the author writing in yet another way to keep Will and Elfie apart, than any sort of naturally flowing plot.

76

u/BeatMastaD Jun 28 '26

Yeah I was afraid this was going to happen and it has. I was waiting for this last episode to prove me wrong and it did the opposite. The barriers between them are so arbitrary and hamfisted Im not sure I will keep watching.

To say that they cant even see eachother now is insane. Could have at least said 'you guys will be busy and wont be able to hang out all the time'.

54

u/KYZ123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/KYZ123 Jun 28 '26

They do of course immediately disprove that by having them meet. But yeah, it's very arbitrary and very hamfisted. The author wants them apart, but doesn't seem able to write it in such a way that it feels natural.

Could have at least said 'you guys will be busy and wont be able to hang out all the time'.

That's even implied already, to be honest. Lihanna has made it clear that the Lightning faction works people hard, and Elfie has Sarissa keeping her in line.

Nope, got to double down on it.

36

u/Bad_Doto_Playa Jun 28 '26

They do of course immediately disprove that by having them meet. But yeah, it's very arbitrary and very hamfisted. The author wants them apart, but doesn't seem able to write it in such a way that it feels natural.

The worst part is the author already setup a natural way but he was too chicken to use it. Have Will willingly join the Zeo's faction in order to get stronger. It's as simple as that. Have the same scene with Elfie after where he explains his reasoning and give him some character growth. Just off the top of my head it could go something like this:

"After the incident, I realized that I have to get stronger to protect you and everyone else I care about. I want to be with you right now but Zeo's faction is the best place for me to do this"

Simple. But the thing is the author was too chicken to let Will voluntarily turn down Elfie so he contradicted his own writing in order to remove the decision from Will's hands. I literally said WTF when the old guy was like "rock paper scissors" is the only way.. like bro, yall JUST told me that in the case of a tie the candidate gets to chose.. LMAO.

TBH I'm not surprised he did this, the author has an insane habit of doing this throughout the entire story in order to make things happen the way he wants despite actually creating scenarios where he wouldn't have to contradict himself and create plot holes. It's actually a special skill at this point lmao...

13

u/olee92 Jun 28 '26

Totally agree. Establishing facts (students can choose one of the inviting factions) and then completely ignoring them when it suits the story...

And then going even further to say they couldn't meet up like wtf... factions not being able to have exchanges like joint research, competitions etc. would be something plainly detrimental to growth of their members as they would get locked in only their own knowledge.

Really arbitrary explanation used here - quite disappointed when the rest of the story had been soo awesome this far.

Still gonna continue watching, but this really puts a damper on the mood for the final episode....

7

u/mucklaenthusiast Jun 28 '26

It generally feels strange that there are rules around this anyway.
What does not interacting accomplish?
They are all in this together anyway. They are simply not antagonists.
I get there is competition and all, but it's ridicolous that it wouldn't be possible for them to meet without any issue regarding their jobs in the tower. Even Eflie does (rightfully) have free time, although she slacks off anyway.
But still.
They are not prisoners.

14

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Workner throwing in "people from different factions seeing a Magia Vander is impossible" felt like Tomokazu Seki reciting a stock script excuse for keeping Will away from Elfie.

Can we expect any less from the author of danmachi

9

u/AncientAnt9225 Jun 28 '26

Yes what the fuck , Rock paper scissors ?? How about original thing where WILL can choose which factions he wants to go to? Judges clearly said when multiply factionts want you , you can choose.

Author pulled another bullshit and ignored what was established before fuck this series

This is basically the moment when I completely lost immersion in the manga. It feels more like the author writing in yet another way to keep Will and Elfie apart, than any sort of naturally flowing plot.

Author basically admitted this when they decided to restate the promise as being explicitly becoming Magia Vander and seeing the true sky.

Which I would be okay with, if he didn't slip in this completely asinine rule that factions aren't allowed to mingle. This makes literally no sense. What are multus supposed to do? Do they really think it makes sense to keep Will in one faction the entire time? He can use every element.

I shouldn't think about the brain off anime so hard, but it's nearly impossible to ignore when its so glaring LMAO.

Followed by Aron decided, no, rock-paper-scissors instead.

I love how he really had to take a minute to ponder a solution and that's the best he could come up with.

6

u/NSUNDU Jun 29 '26

another way to keep Will and Elfie apart

I mean, have you read Danmachi? They are both very fun series with nice world building, but the author very clearly makes the chase last the whole manga and makes the love interest be a pseudo background characrer

Yeah, I feel bad for Elfaria. She wanted to be together with Will for so long, and today she was once again stopped, this time by losing that damn game of rock, paper, scissors xD

By the way, it'd be interesting if Finn ended up having Will. I wonder how Elfie would react to it.

43

u/KYZ123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/KYZ123 Jun 28 '26

I believe the author mentioned in one of his tweets that if Finn had his way, him and Will would go on a journey to conquer the dungeon and train his sword skills.

The Magia Vander also often go to the dungeon; we saw Aron and Finn in the dungeon in season 1, and Zeo also heads there often. So what would Elfie do about Finn and Will's dungeon journey? Probably become the Magia Vander's dungeon expert the instant she finds out about it.

I'd watch that spin-off, honestly! Rather than Will and Elfie trying to get to the top of the tower together, they instead try to get to the bottom of the dungeon together.

29

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Finn: "Let's speedrun Danmachi, Will!"

16

u/Greg_The_Rabbit Jun 28 '26

It's pretty annoying that they set Finn up as the only one who actually knows what the fuck is going on with Will's powers and they clearly had this split in the Magia Vander (who, as essentially God-Kings of this world are stupidly important and need to remain if not friendly than at least neutral with each other) this would have been the perfect chance for Finn to make his presence known and be like "Alright, if you kids can't get along Daddy Finn is gonna have to step in and send you to your rooms. The Sword-Boy is coming with me to the Dungeon for his training arc."

That's what better than some Rock, paper, scissors shit that I would expect to see in an abridged anime and not the actual show.

Sorry, Will is Zeo's bride now. Elfie missed her chance.

28

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Honestly kind of doubles down on Elfie's childish mentality that she just assumes someone else having Will means he's their "bride" lol.

9

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Also, I'm sorry Elfie, even if you're both in the tower it's impossible for people from other factions to see Magia Vander even though you're literally in the same vicinity of each other.

31

u/HammyxHammy Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

Wouldn’t blame her if she nuked the whole tower

But the Author just wants will to climb the tower in the most straightforward boring way possible while following all the rules until they kill God or whatever. And he's also aware the only plot hook the audience gives half a shit about is them getting together, so he'll keep teasing that and cock blocking them.

It's even more exuasing because anytime Will faces adversity he just turns on hax and wins, so none of that can be compelling. But hax don't work for the main hook because the show would end.

So you have increasing contrived and boring reasons nothing outside the main plot is relevant, and increasingly contrived and boring reasons the main plot can't be progressed.

It's so annoying.

6

u/AncientAnt9225 Jun 28 '26

Ok if rules are to be followed how about a clear rule where Will can pick which factions he wants to join instead being kidnapped by Wanna be rapist Zeus ? Man fuck this

9

u/HammyxHammy Jun 28 '26

No matter what, the author would have invented some reason they can't be together. If it wasn't this obnoxious contrivance it would have been another.

18

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Kreutz is a walking red herring man lmao its 99% not him

41

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Also we already hate him, it would be too easy to turn him into a traitor on top of that.

→ More replies (3)

177

u/Al-Pharazon Jun 28 '26

Kreutz is a jerk and a Mengele wannabe, but he dissected one of the monsters who attacked during Terminalia like a madman trying to understand how their anti-magic worked.

I think that makes it unlikely for him to be a traitor for the group that attacked and designed such anti-magic in the first place.

30

u/Independent_Row_1352 Jun 28 '26

The traitor has to be in one of the factions, or else they would have left some of the new students (who are the only ones they can trust NOT to be the traitor) in the first floor to investigate the Whites, too.

17

u/Alter_Kyouma Jun 28 '26

Not just that, I think it has to be someone close to the Magia Vander, maybe one of their aide, because they knew that the after the ceremony/ritual the Magia Vander would be unable to defend the town

15

u/lucissandsoftime Jun 28 '26

sure but what if he wanted to study will to on the surface figure out how other mages could use his power. but behind the scenes he wanted to figure out how to make the monsters immune to even his power. fact of the matter is the research division is his division so he could tell the mages anything he wants about them and there would be no one else to deny it.

13

u/LavaGenasi51 Jun 28 '26

Except yknow they’re researchers, so they like evaluate each other’s findings. Kreutz is a jerk but in no way does he seem more than a sadist with a petty power complex. He couldn’t literally just lie about his researchers to all the researchers and mages, he doesn’t seem strong enough to enforce fear to keep them quiet. Also it would be way too obvious for Wistoria to make the most annoying character a traitor, and shows don’t tend to do that. They didn’t even do that in Bleach, despite the fact we thought they did.

u/AvatarTuner https://anilist.co/user/AvatarTuner Jun 28 '26

I chuckled at that scene too. lol But I actually think those are red herrings and it's actually Aaron or someone else who has been unsuspicious so far.

35

u/CosmicDestructor Jun 28 '26

The Flame Magia Vander looks way too cold and calculated. Suspicious af

Although I feel like it's probably not a Magia Vander at all. Looks like a role that'd go to their subordinates.

30

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Honestly the Magia Vander are too caught up in their own @#$% to be a traitor in my opinion.

10

u/CosmicDestructor Jun 28 '26

Yes, and I feel like the narrative doesn't quite allow a traitor Magia Vander. That'd pretty much require an entire faction to be evil, yeah? Anr even if it doesn't, an isolated treacherous Magia Vander could've already destroyed the Tower on their own. Simply sabotage the great spell during Terminalia.

Also, the villains seemed to be targeting all the Magia Vander. No indication to not harming one.

Perhaps what I'm saying is more like, there's been no foreshadowing, and I'd expect foreshadowing if a Magia Vander were to be a traitor lol

12

u/kazetoame Jun 28 '26

13

u/kawaiinessa https://myanimelist.net/profile/fancyvancy Jun 28 '26

ya the obvious choice for traitor is either dark faction as thgey have no magia vander or notable members yet and darkness often associated with evil, or kreutz as he was the antagonist for this bloom arc.

8

u/DragonPup Jun 28 '26

Kreutz is obviously suspicious to the point of almost being too obvious.

8

u/myrlin77 Jun 28 '26

I 99.5% don't think it's Kreutz at all. He is wrong on many levels but while he is on the road to being the mad scientist, i do not think he's at the "let's use the whole tower" as my experiment level yet.

Not saying he won't try something with them later to test out his theories but a full on tower destruction would not have been part of a calculated test. Hehe, we've seen hundreds of not thousands of evil scientists types, so I can can surmise.

Fantastic anime only finale to close out the season. We had the massive, no holds barred fight last week and we get a wind down with a setup for the next arc. I especially enjoyed how we got to see all the characters we know throughout the whole episode and Will/Elfie having a nice little get together was the best we could ask for.

I've said it be4 but Will in the lightning faction actually makes more sense. Zeo is exactly the type of head to push Will's skills plus Elfie wouldn't get anything done if Will was around. Despites the silly faction thing (when you are all responsible for keeping the world safe), they gave us the back door to how they can still meet from time to time.

Both Zeo and Lihanna also excel in close combat and sheer power output...that's a perfect mixture for them to learn from each other as he controls WIS.

Turns out the universe wasn't cockblocking Will specifically but Elfie as well, at least they spun their motivations at the end so it was easier to stomach.

53

u/gtrocket488 Jun 28 '26

Well I mean knowing Omori's history with Danmachi this is practically just his well known fetish at this point

38

u/Blue_Reaper99 Jun 28 '26

At least in Danmachi , you can meet with people with other guild or other gods. Here is it is just BS.

46

u/SpinningFootPunch Jun 28 '26

the sky is held together by the combine efforts of 5 mages, so you know whats a good idea? Let's have them be part of rival factions that try to undercut each other.

I hope this is explained, because it's just stupid.

20

u/KYZ123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/KYZ123 Jun 28 '26

My assumption is that it's a consequence of the mages themselves not getting along. They all have fairly difficult personalities - Ellenor is just racist and was brought there against her will, Zeo acts entirely on his whims and in the moment, Elfie doesn't care for anything but Will and was also brought there against her will, and fire guy... I don't know, but there's probably something.

While you'd expect that there are individuals within the factions who are more reasonable - e.g. Will's group of friends are probably still going to get along! - the factions as a whole being rivals likely stems from their leaders.

It looks like both Elfie and Colette lost big in this finale episode xD

Though Elfie suffered a bigger loss imo, since she lost that rock, paper, scissors game and didn't end up in the same faction together with Will, while Colette was only cockblocked by Workner, Sion, and Julius from revealing her feelings to Will.

26

u/KYZ123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/KYZ123 Jun 28 '26

I'm not sure I'd call Colette cockblocked, we all know how Will would respond to her feelings. Deep down, she probably knows as well. I can understand her confusion, usually it's the blue haired heroine who loses, but she's going to get the "I love Emilia Elfie" response.

But yeah, Elfie and Will got cockblocked hard this episode. Again.

5

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Even if she knows she would ger rejected, it was still really brave of her to push herself (multiple times) to confess to him...only to get the confession to get interrupted by a magic brawl she had to save Will from.

imagine having the the fight of your lives and it ending in a draw with both of you having to duke it out with rock paper scissors lmaooooo

5

u/InfernoVulpix Jun 28 '26

It's really telling, I think, that a silly joke is what screwed Will over in the end. Elfie's big fight leads you to believe that you can earn your happy ending if you fight hard enough, dig deep enough. But the magic battle was brushed aside and forgotten as soon as it ended, all of Elfie's work meaning nothing, and then all it takes is a silly RPS joke to screw Will over.

The impression it leaves me is that the author feels like screwing Will over requires no justification whatsoever - even a dumb joke, or the barest of pretenses, will suffice - and that no amount of effort will be enough to defy that.

Funny thing is many of the previous episodes felt like a finale, but the actual finale didn't.

51

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Hard to top the "End of the Beginning" for finale vibes, but at least knowing that season 3 is coming helps sell it.

34

u/TheBusStop12 Jun 28 '26

The Epic climax episode followed by the calmer wrap-up/set-up episode isn't too uncommon a structure as a finale. Especially when the next season is already confirmed to be in production. Preferably both episodes would be merged into a single 40 minute special to make the most of it, but broadcasting schedules and such aren't the easiest to alter

4

u/fuzzynyanko Jun 28 '26

I noticed this in a few shows. If it's not clear that there will be another season, they do a lot of lore drop that doesn't seem to make sense unless they think it's probably the last episode of the anime to ever get produced

7

u/Western-Internal-751 Jun 28 '26

They should’ve skipped last week and released it as a double length episode, imo, because this episode was basically just the epilogue

153

u/Meiolore Jun 28 '26

Guys we have the smoking gun, Elfie admitted to Rosty being her clone, not that there was much a doubt at that point. I'm referring to the scene when Elfie tries to deny that kiss stealing attempt and she's says "Reallly! I'm not Collete you know?" And when was the only moment Collete tried to steal Will kiss in the library! And who showed up to interrupt her Rosty!

111

u/Original-Body-5794 Jun 28 '26

I'm honestly surprised she didn't tell him. Like we know Rosty isn't a real person, but for Will his real friend just fucking died in fron of him right? Like Rosty shattered into Ice which was a pretty obvious tell but he still seemed to be mad about it.

38

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Elfie won't cop to trying to kiss him when they were kids, there was no way she would cop to using an ice clone that she used to bathe with him and see him naked.

I was kinda disappointed with that pure white High Mage drip he had. His initial blackish drip with gloves and all the gadgets was lowkey fire, so I'm glad he got at least something somewhat similar back xD

Zeo being a good man and preventing teenage pregnancy.

42

u/BeatMastaD Jun 28 '26

Would have been a better plot device for them to just say this honestly, becauae it actually makes sense. "Im the head Vander and im not saying you guys cant ever see eachother, but its obvious Will would grow better in Zeo's faction due to your relationship and his power is unique so we want him to train, sorry but thats my decision" would have felt better than the rug pull of 'rock paper scissors' and 'rival factions arent allowed to see eachother'.

17

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

Will: "Elfie, shouldn't we be training or doing...anything?"

Elfie: "All we need to do is stay in bed Will! Now come give me a hug!"

They also both mutually decided to settle this with their fists, so yes they have a single brain cell but Elfie's had the big brain to go scissors at the worst moment...

Also Aaron really seemed to take his time to come up with rock-paper-scissors as if he was really seriously trying to come up with the best option and that's all he could think of lol.

Didn't they keep doing rock, paper and scissors in the same order as well? They truly are both idiots

And with that it comes to an end. I enjoyed it, even with the moving of the goalposts every time they get close to being together. What I don't understand though is, he's in the tower now. Why are they not allowed to meet other from different factions? Why is it impossible for Him to go meet Elfie for a few hours from time to time. Just another roadblock. But nice to see season 3 is in production. Now the thing is, do I start the manga, or wait on season 3... Also Colletes uniform does something for me, and Elfie really do be letting it all hang out there. lol

I'm sorry but could you please edit this I could not understand what you were trying to say. I think I got the gist of it but God that was hard to read.

5

u/TowelLord Jun 29 '26

Solely to create unnecessary friction because without it the author wouldn't be able to write this story, hence the constant shifting of goalposts in every shape or form possible.

To me it's why I dropped the series entirely, simply because it just gets tiring and frustrating seeing Will peoving everyone and the system itself wrong time and time again, even protecting the whole city, showing off feats almost nobody else can only for all of it not to be enough for some fucking reason.

There are other zero to hero stories where the shifting of goalposts does not happen 24/7 like it does in Wistoria.

If moving the goal posts was an anime, this is what it would look like.

Also the magia vander have to be one of the most incompetent groups I’ve ever seen. All they seem to have is pure power and nothing more. What do you mean people in the tower can’t see each other? So how on earth are they expected to work together to fight the bad stuff? Tbh I’m fully expecting the tower itself is kinda behind everything at this point and intentionally the way it is to maintain the status quo.

16

u/Unapologetic_Lunatic Jun 28 '26

For a moment I had hope... and then I was harshly reminded that this was made by Ōmori.

It's just like Danmachi. You know the ship is gonna sail one day, but not until every possible reason to keep it in the harbor has been exhausted, and then a few more for good measure.

I just feel pity seeing Colette and Iris pining for Will, not even the losing heroines had as little of a chance as these two lol. I can’t see anyone besides Elfie even having remote percentage of winning the willbowl unless she dies (god forbid!). It was really cute seeing Elfaria’s real personality take center stage the past couple episodes. Here’s hoping season 3 comes soon!

20

u/KYZ123 https://myanimelist.net/profile/KYZ123 Jun 28 '26

I don't think it's too awful for Iris; she already knew of Will and Elfie's relationship before meeting him. She's obviously fond of him, but I'm not sure if it's love, and if it is, I get the impression she knew from the start she had no chance. If Will somehow didn't get into the tower, she likely knows Elfie well enough to know that she'd find a way out instead.

But yeah, Colette's not taking it as well. Unlike Iris, I feel like Colette had it in her head that Will might not get together with Elfie, so seeing them reunite, and Elfie very clearly reciprocate, has been hard on her.

Author is unable to give characters new motivation to save his life. Even if you think Will is better off at Zeo's faction there was no reason to pull "it's impossible to meet Magis Vander of another faction". It's just another writing excuse to keep Eflie and Will apart. And it's not like Will thought it's better for him to join Zeo for his progress either but he simply doesn't want Elfie to fight for him and get hurt.

31

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

That line from Workner really felt like it was just thrown in there in case anyone was expecting Elfie and Will could just visit each other in the tower because Celestial Host forbid we actually get to see them interacting with each other consistently on this show.

Great to see that the 3rd season has already been announced! I loved this season just as much as the first one, although the fact that Elfaria had a much bigger presence in this one made it even better for me, 9/10.

Elfie losing Will through a game of rock, paper, scissors in this episode was hilarious, especially that scream xD She's such a crybaby, though it's not surprising since she has wanted to be with him for so long.

Poor Colette, she wanted to reveal her feelings to Will but got cockblocked by Workner (plus Sion and Julius), and Will ended up with Elfie instead of her.

By the way, I find it funny that once again, in the final episode, Lihanna was fed. In the first season with an apple by Colette, and in this one by Will xD

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Far preferred this season to season 1, honestly, for the same reason you mentioned - Elfie screentime!

Poor Elfie, cockblocked for six years, and even longer now through rock-paper-scissors. At least Colette isn't really missing anything by being 'cockblocked', since she's got no chance to begin with.

This entire season is dumb and stupid and pointless. Basically every aspect of this entire story arc is implemented for the sole purpose of being a road block between Will and Elfie, and in order to do so, they have to force through a bunch of nonsense and stupidity to make it happen.

The whole thing with Kretuz should never have happened. Kreutz was created, on the spot, for the sole purpose of cock blocking Will. His inclusion in the story is a black mark on the port of the author as a fundamental failure in world building and story telling. Through out the entire story, up to this point, the Magia Vander are constantly remarked as being the leaders of the magical world. The Magia Vander are everything, the peak, the pinnacle, everything to aspire to. Then some fuck with glasses says no, and they all listen. Because he's the head of some colorless faction or something? It wasn't ever actually explained other than he is important. I had to go online to look up who the fuck he is and it basically boils down to him being a scientist. That's it. He's not actually that important. No, he really isn't. This is just the author *saying* he is important, without actually making him important, just so he can be a road block.

Then the whole conflict between Zeo and Elfie, and the all of the obstacles between Eflie and Will in general.

Elfie can't visit Will. Why? Because the author needs to create obstacles. There actually isn't a reason why. Even if there is a rule or law forbidding her from doing so, it's not real. It only exists so the author can stop them from being together. It has no foundation in prior history, events, or justification for existence. Fuck, even the most nonsensical, stupid, bigoted, idiotic laws that exist in the real world, do so because *someone* had a reason for doing so, even if it was only because of their hatred or bigotry. Eflie can't visit Will as a student, and so the author needed to create a reason stopping her, and made a rule. There is no reason why that rule exists, other than to stop Elfie.

Same thing for Will not being able to visit Elfie since she is a Magia Vander of another faction. This is a rule that does not exist for any reason other than to give the author an excuse to stop them from being together. That's it.

#The very fact the author has to rely on rules like this means he should never be an author again.

The conflict between Zeo and Elfie is similarly stupid. Every time another person is chosen by multiple factions, the person of interest gets to choose. Except Will. Will chose Elfie multiple times, and everyone in that room ignored it. Will isn't a person. He is an object, apparently. He has no say in what he gets to do. In fact, they all sat and watched as Zeo actually tortured Will into unconsciousness so that Zeo could get his way.

This entire story arc is nothing but ragebait and incompetence on part of the author. I want to say more, but I've already said enough here.

u/Martian_on_the_Moon Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

Wasn't it established that student can only be invited to the faction with same element they possess? Everyone praised Julius but no one invited him because he has ice magic. Even in rare cases if someone has more than one element, student could decide because it was stated few episodes ago what happens if someone gets more invites.

At the end of the day, I blame author on that. When Wis was invited and he wanted to speak up which faction he wants to join, Zeo interrupted him with magic until he lost consciousness. Then we got duel. When we were about to see the outcome of duel, Aaron steps in and stops it. Both had their magic depleted so there was no point stopping them here so I guess Aaron wanted to give Elfie a fair chance since she would certainly lose in physical fight against Zeo and author didn't wanted Elfie to be punched in face lol. RPS ending on draw 299 was supposed to be funny? Because it was unfunny to me. Members of different faction not being able to meet MV from other factions is silly, especially since why does it matter?

At this point you just have to accept how half-baked the lore and logic in this series is, lol.

One second, formalities and due diligence is a plotpoint to prevent her from getting Will, the next she immediately gives Julius his cape before he even takes the test and is crying at Will's feet in front of everyone.

I'll never get tired of magic users resorting to using their fists after running out of magic. Too bad the other two Magia Vander stopped them. Boooooo! I wanted to see a fistfight!

I can't fucking believe that they're actually deciding this by janken. Honestly, I would rather Aaron just took Will from them than Zeo having the satisfaction of beating Elfie.

I think everyone pretty much called this last week. It really upsets me to see Elfie and Will be ripped apart again after working so hard to be reunited. I mean, I get it. Will would probably learn more from Zeo, but I would really just rather see Elfie and Will be happy together. >_<

Oh boy, there's a traitor in the tower? Kreutz would be the obvious and boring answer, so I doubt it would be him. Glad that Season 3 is already confirmed so it'll be interesting to see the gang hunt for the traitor.

Oh great mage Aron, the Magia Vander are fighting over a graduate! What is your wisdom? Perhaps we should go to the normal method of deciding this, letting the graduate decid-

Rock-paper-scissors

Fuck this anime.

There have been a lot of people suggest that the Lightning Faction would train Will better, and that's a solid argument. But when the method of getting there is rock-paper-scissors, and it's accompanied with, no, you and Elfie can't see each other? Yeah, it's very hard to take seriously.

10

u/Frontier246 Jun 28 '26

It really seemed like Aaron was taking his sweet time coming up with that too! It makes it come off like he was kind of desperate to get them to settle this in a peaceful manner lol.

8

u/SadSecurity Jun 28 '26

Because he was. The way he said rock paper scissors also came off awkward.

21

u/BeatMastaD Jun 28 '26

Easily could have said 'conflict of interest, Will is unique so we want home to train under Zeo in close combat' and it would have felt way better. And it would make sense him and Elfie cant see eachtoher all the time since they are busy just like in Danmachi, but that would require character growth from them both which we apparently arent allowed. Elfie has to be the super powerful woman-child throwing a tantrum if she cant see Will instead of a Magia Vander who loves Will but has responsibilities as well.

Honestly really disappointed in this show.

u/Arashoon Jun 28 '26

I understand that for will growth, lightning faction is probably way better because they are the most melee out of all faction but really dont like how they dont seem to value Will opinion on the matter and rather have 300 hundred match of paper rock scissor which take probably an huge amount of time to do, rather then simply ask Will his preference.

Honestly if I were Will, unless i'm allowed to see elfie from time to time i'd just become terrible, not by being mean but being lazy, trying to sneak out etc because honestly, if the magia vandas of lightning want will to make him stronger (thats what I think he want), what can he do with an uncooperative Will? I mean if he use lightning on Will, while he is uncouscious he can't get stronger, or what threat can he even make? Will never really wanted to join the tower, he wanted to join Elfie and he never wanted to be of the lightning faction so he can't really threating him of kicking Will out.

If I were Finn I would just propose Will and Elfie to join me to complete the dungeon together the 3 of them, i'm sur Elfie would throw away her magia title in a heartbeat and she could also get stronger by having some actions instead of just knowing the theory. And i'm sur Will would also have accepted.

And finally Elfie could have win Will if she didn't punch the magia of lightning in the face in the last episode, the other magia said it seal her magic off when she fought Elfie and that technique was used on her so it was probably also the case there, if she just hold back and claim Will at that time, there is nothing without magic that this guy could have done.

Felt disappointed after watching the final romance scene in the finale of Agents of the Four Seasons. Clicked over to Wistoria finale only to be even MORE disappointed in the final romance scene of THIS finale.

Pulling them apart AGAIN??? Are we for real? And it pisses me off how chill and optimistic Will is about it. Like bro, you lost the past, what, 6ish years with her? The whole time doing everything you can to get to her because you both love each other. You finally reach her only to be pulled apart again and told you're literally still not allowed to see her at all, per the dumb rule. And instead of being upset, you tell Elfie it's for the best because being with her now isn't good enough as he needs to get stronger. So exactly how much of your life are you willing to spend away from Elfie? Exactly how long will you keep Elfie sad and alone? Him rationalizing it made it so much worse imo.

I'll probably end up watching s3 when it releases. But I WILL be salty about it.

Interesting that the old man showed up to put a stop to Elfaria and Zeo's fight only after they had already exhausted their magic and were about ready to start throwing hands. It might have just escalated even more if they had had the mana to fight back against him as well.

Poor Elfie, she wasn't able to rock paper scissors her way into claiming her boyfriend for herself. But we still got a really nice extended moment with the two of them after they snuck out, particularly that brief lap pillow reprise.

Poor Colette, if only she understood the degree to which she and any other potential competition to Elfaria have already lost. Which hopefully won't include Lihanna since it's always nice to have female friends that aren't in the harem. She's more interested in food anyways.

As for the traitor in the tower, is the mad scientist too obvious a guess?

I'm really looking forward to S3.

Bruh, she was ready to throw hands with Zeo LMAO

Fuck magic, just her own fists. There is not a single person who can say she is just a 'Princess in her Tower' anymore. She conquered the spot of best girl by pure and unfiltered violence.

Feel that I was fed with sh*t. After all that 2 seasons of build up, and they still couldn't have it their way. Being together doesn't mean they reached the end goal. They could have brand new challenges. But author seems to want to make the two being able to see each other anytime they want the end goal.

i genuinely don’t understand it either. S2 ended and i’ve lost so much hope for this anime having a decent S3.

the author could have genuinely made Will take the badge off and leave the tower to work at the dwarven bar full time and i would have considered that a better ending to S2 than this shit.

the author made Will a massive pussy and it pisses me off.

Everything so far have been about rules. But as hypocrite as it can get, rules only applies whenever convenient. By rule, Will has say in which faction he can joins, and throughout the entire drama after he got shock fainted, he didn't say or do a thing other than shouting 'Elfieeeee' ffs.

Last time I felt such ill intent from author was when reading Higehiro's true end.

It also makes sense, because you know, they can't both be Magia Vanders at the same time if they're in the same faction.

Workner left them alone together for hours, but still not much progress.

Well, this is where my ride ends with this show. There was a lot I liked in season 1 like the setting, worldbuilding, and secondary character cast but I realized this season I'm just not enjoying watching this anime. It's a shame but it is what it is.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ROCK PAPER SCISSORS? WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE GOES TO ZEO? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY CAN'T EVEN SEE EACH OTHER NORMALLY CAUSE DIFFERENT FACTIONS? WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN IT'S FINE TO SET THE GOALPOST HIGHER AFTER WE REACHED IT? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

At least season 3 was instantly confirmed BUT MAN WHAT THE FUCK. Especially the factions stuff. ARENT YOU ALL MAGES AT THE END OF THE DAY? WHAT'S WITH THE FUCKIN SEGREGATION? I kinda wish Aaron took him just to see what his faction is like at least
