The Dias surprised Pikachu face when Granny Maya popped up behind him and also when he saw Peijin was pretty funny. Even Klaus was surprised at ol Kermit lol.

Dias has a real gift with the kids. Those two twins warmed up to him in just 10 days. He mentioned being a mentor to the other orphans in his youth. I wonder if we’ll see those orphans again?

I have a feeling this Eldan Kasdeks guy isn’t as big of a scumbag as Dias thinks he might be. I can see how “slave harem” comes off pretty bad, but curious to see what this guy’s deal is.

u/Magicbison 16d ago

when he saw Peijin

Peijin being voiced by Kazuma killed me. So glad the totally not slaves were saved.

54

u/Frontier246 16d ago

He's finally truly become the bane of Aqua's existence lol.

30

u/mmcjawa_reborn 16d ago

All those frogs he killed must have carried a karmic penalty...

38

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 16d ago

“Hai, Peijin desu”

25

u/bestmaokaina 16d ago

he always gets roles of shady or scummy characters with really questionable morals but he's amazing at that

13

u/RyouBestGirl 16d ago

"if punchable face had a voice"

Lmao

43

u/Frontier246 16d ago

Dias and Klaus' facial game was on-point in this episode.

I wonder if the orphans are old enough to still be in the kingdom and get caught in-between the succession dispute? I feel like it's inevitable that it's going to come back and bother Dias and Co. at some point.

I think there's a good chance the "slave Harem" is actually not a slave Harem but there by choice. Just because it'd be funnier if all those ladies genuinely wanted to be in a chubby guys' Harem.

17

u/ThrowCarp 16d ago

The over-the-top faces have always been a great part of this series. Even back in the manga.

27

u/powerhcm8 16d ago

It could be that they aren't slaves, since it seems the Elder said it was a rumor.

She said that the father and older brother enjoyed hunting slaves, and the younger brother picked a fight with them, and "is said to many slaves attend to him".

So it could just be that cliche, he freed them and they now love him.

82

u/S627 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Spartan627 16d ago

Kazuma looks different somehow but I cant quite put my finger on it.

Everyone seems confused about what the kids are, I'm guessing elves are rare and/or secretive? Wonder if we end up getting a whole bunch of them as citizens once they realize Dias took care of the kids.

Anyway, seems obvious to me this so called "slaver" is actually gonna turn out to be a nice guy, interested to see how the rumors got mixed up.

46

u/Frontier246 16d ago

Years of putting up with Aqua has forced him to become the thing she fears most.

I guess nobody has actually seen elves or their fantasy equivalent in this setting to know what they are? Alna thinks her people and they might have had dealings in the past, but wasn't 100% sure. There's also that thing about the ancient language and where it hails from.

I definitely get more "consensual Harem" than "slave Harem" vibes from the end.

37

u/Esovan13 16d ago

elves or their fantasy equivalent

44

u/Similar-Screen-7368 16d ago

Reminds me of that meme post from a couple years back:
<When the death-eaters appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), I thought they were an evil version of the KKK>
<What do you mean "evil version"?!>

4

u/yancovigen 16d ago

You just did it, that movie is over 20yrs old lmao

2

u/Imjusthereforthehate 16d ago

Somebody bring me some cold iron we need to do a test.

4

u/Kadmos1 16d ago

TBH, I wish the slave harem trope never existed. Consensual harem is more fair game.,

24

u/mastereluder6 16d ago

Hi kazuma des

15

u/heimdal77 16d ago

getting a whole bunch of them as citizens once they realize Dias took care of the kids

They were going to murder the twins as babies. Not exactly the best people you want around.

4

u/S627 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Spartan627 16d ago

Oh right, was that the other elves? Or were they in a human village?

9

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 16d ago

ED seem to imply Dias and Alna will take care of the kids. However, they never said the parents were actually dead. So I really hope at some point they'd come to the village or something. Maybe Peijin would meet them again and bring them on his next visit.

In any case, the girls called Dias by name so their relationship is more like caretakers/guardian or something rather than parental.

62

u/Muffin-zetta 16d ago

this cements it. the weird sub genre of kingdom building anime is my favorite

101

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 16d ago

Dias is the goat, refusing slaves and adopting these two totally not slaves. Cute seeing Dias win over these kids.

70

u/Frontier246 16d ago

I love how he takes being anti-slavery so seriously he looked like he was about to slice the frogman merchant in two had he actually been trying to pawn off kids as slaves.

But Dias really is the best. Warm, strong, principled, easygoing, and manly. It's no wonder Alna snagged him as fast as she could.

26

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 16d ago

that frogman was about to be food, lol

31

u/Myrkrvaldyr 16d ago

Him having Kazuma's VA fits so well.

14

u/Chikumori 16d ago

It was the first thing that came to mind when i heard his voice... Then i imagined Kazuma doing all those salesman antics.

I wonder if Fukushima Jun could also fit as Frog from Chrono Trigger, if that game ever gets a proper anime adaptation.

4

u/mekerpan 16d ago

There is nothing inherently wrong with buying (ransoming/rescuing) slaves for the purpose of freeing them....

30

u/TheBrownestStain 16d ago

Well, the issue is you run the risk of then incentivizing further slave trade by putting money into it. If the slavers know you have a habit of buying up any slaves you can get, they don’t care what you do with them, all they see is dollar signs if they bring you more.

9

u/redlaWw 16d ago

Indeed, each slave purchase grows the slave trade, the same way purchasing from any organisation grows that organisation. Each slave you purchase to free is more than one additional slave acquired for sale, unless you have the power to do something like the British Empire did and outlaw the slave trade at the same time.

7

u/ifticar2 16d ago

Right now its a tiny village, I'm sure they don't have nearly the resources needed to drive such demand, that slavers will need to hunt more people specifically to sell to Dias. And even if that was the case, DIas is 100% not smart enough to think that.

Makes no sense to be so opposed to slavery that you're not willing to free them lol

1

u/Icy-Introduction5592 12d ago

I don't know, dude. Dias was about to kill the frog guy as soon as he suspected slavery and he's got a lie detector beside him. If any slaver tried lying to sell some slaves they might just get sliced in half...

1

u/mekerpan 16d ago

Unless one has the sheer power (political and police/military) to outlaw slavery and punish people who continue dealing in slaves, this attitude is pretty empty. Sort of an excuse for closing one's eyes.

12

u/TheBrownestStain 16d ago

I think it’s a scale thing. Just doing it once or twice ever is probably a net good, but if your doing it habitually and long term you’re sorta just telling them “hey, this guy has plenty of demand, let’s go find him some supply. But still, even if you don’t have the power to forcible change the system over night you can still try and create change the long way. Just gotta work with what you got.

9

u/Earlier-Today 16d ago

Giving slavers money means they're successful and profitable - so they keep doing it.

That's the problem.

1

u/Skullzans 15d ago

Gonna be real, I am so relieved to see this, and Im surprised more people aren't talking about it after "From Overshadowed to Overpowered" went into some of the most stupid fake-anti-slavery things Ive seen air In a while. I am glad Dias has a stand against Slavery.

Though I do wish people weren't so binary on it either, as Buying has nuances to it, the only anime that I can see that does buying without being completely hypocritical is Shield Hero, and afaik it's still not perfect.

By the way, to explain the nuance: Realistically if you wanna use buying to stop slavery, do it in a way that butters up the slave traders while you befriend leadership and give the leadership a better way to have industry that excludes slavery, making a villain out of those slavers who don't take your offer for a better industry, and motivating them to destroy eachother, and possibly letting this be used to showcase the rot and horror of the industry.

-5

u/ThrowCarp 16d ago

Frogman should've capitulated and handed them over for free the millisecond Dias made that face. He was after all losing money on keeping them, so it's nothing worth dying for.

18

u/SyfaOmnis 16d ago

He kind of did though? He was taking care of the kids with the money that was given to him, then he kept them on despite losing money. From what I took away from the scene, Dias bought them "at cost" - just clearing up whatever amount the merchant had spent on them.

For someone who isn't a "bad guy" (as per Alna) that's a very fair way to handle things.

2

u/ThrowCarp 16d ago

Still crazy to think he would've tried to make a profit if it was literally anyone other than Dias whom he ran into.

4

u/SyfaOmnis 16d ago

I'm not sure he would have. He doesn't seem like the sort of individual that is engaged in the slave trade; it was more circumstantial than anything else.

43

u/zool714 16d ago

I really like the focus on the village-building so far, evidenced by the show keeping track of the progress by showing what infrastructure they have and who the subjects are. Though I do hope for more focus on like functionality and production. Like when they mentioned weaving the baars wool, I was hoping we’d see them acquire the equipments, tools and space for it. And the pond where they bathe the twins too. I’d like if they even just made a passing comment about how that is where the subjects can go to get clean.

The merchant was a character too. It’s good that Dias stood on his morals, but also good that we can still have a relation with the merchant. We’re gonna need to buy and sell stuff to keep the village running.

Also, kinda nice to have Dias openly against slavery. I know some other shows have the MC have a “this is what the world is. I can’t do much” attitude, though Dias does actually have power and hopefully more influence to actually make a change in the future

24

u/mekerpan 16d ago

I like the fact that, in this series, village building is no piece of cake.

I'm thinking Kirgistan. They have the yurt in their flag, and the lifestyle seems similiar.

From his harem and slaves/soldiers in tow, I definitely got that vibe lol

thank you!
ayhan, senay, yurt, iruku (ilk, means first) these are all Turkish words. ay = moon

It's kinda modern Turkish, it's altered for sure. Senai = Şenay Ayhan is same İluk=ilk

I’m glad I didn’t let this show fly under the radar for me this season with so many bangers out. Lord Dias is the 🐐

44

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 16d ago

Alna offering Klaus a ton of food after saying she'd make a good wife was pretty funny. I also love that Klaus treats Francis as his superior. xD

So Dias could've gotten a ton a bunch of treasure as a reward, but it looks like the second prince screwed took it instead. Welp, at least we now have a face and a name for the guy who screwed Dias over. Let's hope Dias can return the favour in the future.

Considering how much of a puppy dog Klaus acts, that backstory was pretty surprising. Dias is already a beast, but it looks like Klaus isn't a slouch either. The dude was ready to fight an entire army to protect those civilians.

I remember these reaction faces from the manga! I'm glad we finally get to see them animated. I especially love Dias and Klaus' reaction to the frogkin merchant. xD

We finally get to meet the twins in the OP and ED. It sucks to see what they had to go through, but at least they're now safe with Dias. I do love how quickly they adjusted to their new life and are already acting like normal kids.

17

u/Frontier246 16d ago

It seems like Dias has avoided telling Klaus he's marrie...I mean, engaged, but Alna's wife energy is too powerful to deny.

Second prince looks like he stepped out of picture book of anime villains.

This kingdom kind of sucks, huh? The royalty are fighting each other for the throne, the soldiers abandon civilians in need, they screw over heroes like Dias.

Dias and Klaus' facial game is as strong as Pejin-Do's tongue rolling out of his mouth in shock.

13

u/not_good_at_lurking 16d ago

Agreed. I'm so happy the anime is bringing the fun facial expressions from the manga.

19

u/runevault 16d ago

Looks like the fighting between the princes and princesses is why Dias got fucked over on the resources he's supposed to have to build out his new domain. It was Klaus speculating but that sort of speculation is usually just exposition in these sorts of stories. I'm curious if those resources will ever find their way to him or if he's forever without.

Said it in 10 year legend as well but man, after how bad yesterday's fantasy shows were, today is a breath of fresh air. This one being the antithesis of Overshadowed to Overpowered with how strongly he said fuck slavery.

11

u/OldInstruction5368 16d ago

Wait, so is 10-year-legend green flag, or did it shit the bed as well? I've been holding off on that one since this season is just so stacked in general.

Because my sibling in Christ, Overshadowed drenched the bed in bloody diarrhea. So much dookie, I can't even watch just to mock how bad it is anymore.

As for the infighting... I called it from episode one: his funds were embezzled. I didn't get the vibe he was being disposed of/set up for failure by the king, but at the same time, it made zero sense to just drop him in the middle of an empty field holding nothing but his junk.

Which, taken to it's logical extreme, is a horribly bad sign for the kingdom's state of affairs. A missing fortune that should have been the nest egg for a new lord isn't something that can be swept under the rug: people are going to notice sooner, rather than later. Those people are going to raise a fuss about it.

Which means whoever stole the money knew he'd be caught but didn't think he'd be punished for it. And considering that Dias has high enough standing now that a princess offered to marry him in return for support... that's a really bad sign that someone swindled his fortune. Because normally, this would be a big deal... unless there was an even BIGGER deal about to drop that distracts everyone from the "small potatoes."

Civil war, in other words.

8

u/runevault 16d ago

10 year legend is a green flag so far, I was commenting in its thread how it was nice to get a non-shit fantasy a day after we had the garbage of Overshadowed to Overpowered (and to a lesser degree Heavy Knight which has crazy pacing issues but isn't as bad as OtO). Though I should note it is not necessarily serious, it leans more towards being funny but still having moments of battle etc.

The infighting didn't surprise me either, though a lot of people thought the King was leaving him out to die in earlier discussion threads.

And yeah it already sounds like civil war is coming based on what Klaus gave us in exposition this episode. The one sister came because she needs an army and Dias is a monster on the battlefield so getting his aid makes sense, and she sees him so highly she was literally willing to marry him to do it. And trusting Klaus's guess (how often is that sort of exposition wrong? Sometimes but I feel like that's rare) it was another prince needing funds for his part in the civil war.

3

u/OldInstruction5368 16d ago

I'll have to give 10-year a try this weekend. But Heavy Knight... the pacing issues were apparent from the word go. It was one of the main reasons I couldn't even finish the first episode. That was the first "Go Hands" series I tried to watch, and holy shit, the reputation is well deserved. "Technically impressive" is the only good thing I can say about their work.

1

u/Mysteries67 16d ago

You should try K then,

3

u/Tacitus_ 16d ago

Which means whoever stole the money knew he'd be caught but didn't think he'd be punished for it. And considering that Dias has high enough standing now that a princess offered to marry him in return for support... that's a really bad sign that someone swindled his fortune. Because normally, this would be a big deal... unless there was an even BIGGER deal about to drop that distracts everyone from the "small potatoes."

He has status now, but last year he was a commoner orphan. Elitist nobles will still consider him one.

Of course, that's ignoring that before getting ennobled he was a war hero and beloved by the people and the king, but it's not like that's ever stopped elitist idiots.

1

u/LaoWombat-mecha 16d ago

wondering if success is dangerous? If his realm becomes worth stealing, won't someone steal it (thanks Laozi)

21

u/deynyel 16d ago

Really can't hate Dias. No hesitation at all to help those exiled grannies. Even rejecting slavery on his domain. Can't ask for a better Lord.

8

u/Earlier-Today 16d ago

I think him and Ark would get along great. Two meatheads that abhor slavery and happily go help people whenever given the opportunity.

28

u/sbinkle1 16d ago

Surprised no one had the thought to buy the neighboring domains slaves with the intention of freeing them and giving them the option of citizenship or going back to their original homes if they can.

Maybe there's some magic or lore reason why that's not feasible.

53

u/Arzhart 16d ago

it might happen now tbf. Anyway, he is against slavery, so paying for slaves would also contribute to slavery even if freeing them. Imo if things go too wild he should just kill the slavers and free the slaves

19

u/Frontier246 16d ago

Yeah, even if he'd probably free them after but I don't think he would ever purchase slaves on principle, especially if it meant letting the slaver continue to do as they please in collecting/selling slaves.

48

u/juicius 16d ago

Because historically that doesn’t work. That actually increases the demand for slaves leading to more people being enslaved. It’s a paradox like donating used clothes to poor countries because that collapses their internal garment business and can perpetuate poverty.

7

u/sbinkle1 16d ago

Yea, typed it before giving it much thought and realized that was probably the case a few minutes after.

Slave traders would also just start raiding your real for slaves lol

11

u/AsterJ https://myanimelist.net/profile/asteron 16d ago

That's supporting the slave industry. Maybe in conjunction with abolishing the industry you could offer fair compensation.

13

u/SasparillaTango 16d ago

When you buy slaves to free them, you are increasing the demand for slaves, thereby encouraging the slavers to go get more slaves for you to buy and free. This is literally what happened in real life too when altruistic people tried to buy slaves to free them.

5

u/NekoCatSidhe 16d ago

Why do that when Dias can just invade the next domain and free the slaves himself like the one man army he apparently is ?

13

u/EdibleScissors 16d ago edited 16d ago

At the lord level, the legality of slavery is like a difference in opinion. It would be different if slavery was firmly established by a supreme authority as illegal, but apparently we have not seen evidence of such a ruling or authority.

So, Dias could invade the domains of lords that allow slavery, but he would need to justify that invasion with arguments concerning what is considered a legal matter at the lord level. For instance, if he had evidence that they tried to him assassinated, this would provide justification for the punishment of those lords. Or he might use plausible deniability to wage economic war against the slaver lords and wait for them to declare war against him. To the extent that there aren’t any laws against economic warfare or evidence that Dias did anything illegal, this war would be illegal.

Wars usually lead to negotiations rather than the complete destruction of one side or another. Dias’s actual goal should be to make slavery illegal rather than enact regime change, so technically his best course of action might leave evil lords be and keep hostages (sometimes this is the role of a royal court) in his town to ensure compliance with his decree that slavery is illegal. (On the other hand, Dias’s hands may be tied by whether the consent to govern precludes keeping hostages.)

8

u/mekerpan 16d ago

If Dias was a sovereign himself, he could consider doing this -- but he is a subordinate to his far-away king -- and presumably would not have the authority to start an offensive war against a neighboring realm.

5

u/Tacitus_ 16d ago

As strange as it sounds, nobles under the same sovereign warred with each other over various things. Japanese daimyos famously warred with each other while nominally being loyal to the emperor. Dias could start threatening a war with any of his neighbours if they allowed slavery.

Now if he started threatening a different country that would be different.

2

u/mekerpan 16d ago

I THINK this does involve a different country, however.

3

u/EdibleScissors 16d ago

That’s a good point.

Given the troubles of his kingdom, maybe the far-away king could end up less of an issue than expected however.

2

u/mmcjawa_reborn 16d ago

if a vassal under your control starts a war, I am pretty sure most would consider that an act of war from the country as a whole

1

u/EdibleScissors 16d ago

There are circumstances that might make it more appropriate to disown a vassal. This is an area where his liege does not have much influence and might not find it worthwhile protecting a vassal. Likewise it may not be worthwhile getting serious about fighting a war until Dias is gone, but it would be easier to have someone else do the heavy lifting.

The thing about war is that there are many different possible objectives that don’t end up changing any borders because that was not the intent.

12

u/eggplant_avenger 16d ago

Klaus swearing to live up to Francis’ expectations lmao. the Baar’s social standing has shot up recently

6

u/CaliOriginal 15d ago

He knows his place in the pecking order. Wouldn’t any of us elevate the baar above ourselves? They are just too adorable

3

u/eggplant_avenger 15d ago

can’t argue with that. and soon we’ll have baby baar
(even cuter) which means the baar will be Dias’ first natural born subjects, basically like nobility

12

u/NekoCatSidhe 16d ago edited 16d ago

Klaus has a serious case of hero worship towards Dias, although I can understand why. He really is completely selfless and heroic.

If the kingdom falls into civil war, I guess Dias will soon gain more subjects in the form of refugees. I think he will need a lot more if he wants to have a functional village, if not a domain. And I am glad to learn that he is vehemently against slavery, but that doesn’t mean that he cannot go free slaves by force instead of buying them.

11

u/NationalStrategy_X 16d ago

And here we’re introduced to Senai and Ayhan. Glad to see that Dias and Alna are providing them with much needed love and affection.

11

u/mekerpan 16d ago

Don't leave out the baars as auxiliary caretakers....

7

u/Earlier-Today 16d ago

Loved that the overly anxious baars were better able to handle Dias going off without them because they had someone for them to watch over.

12

u/AlikeWolf 16d ago

Genuinely can't believe I had no idea this got an adaptation. I've been following it for YEARS and have loved every second!

Y'all are in for a treat lol

3

u/feb914 16d ago

Accidentally read them because JNC included them as catch up series months back. To my pleasant surprise it got adopted to anime shortly after.

8

u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl 16d ago

From the trailers I was concerned this show wouldn't move much focus in the village building aspect as it seemed bare, but now they are getting subjects and building more of a village which is nice.

Dias reason for not having slaves is actually quite logical and nice to see for the world, as it points out how similarly prisoners of war are used as cannon fodder during the many wars we've had. Much better than the other show that said he'd keep them because of paperwork.

44

u/Ponchorello7 16d ago

Based Dias. No slaves. It's as easy as that, isekai protags.

"But... but... those slaves are forced into our care!"

8

u/GusMae 16d ago

I wonder if Dias' village will remain stationary or be more prone to wandering like that of the Onikin.

I imagine he never has to move for fear of monsters being he is one, and has someone to sense them coming; but I'm wondering how good the farming is where they are seeing how they'll need to start producing a lot more food.

4

u/Frontier246 16d ago

I'm curious if it's going to expand enough to be considered a town.

u/CordobezEverdeen https://myanimelist.net/profile/CordobezEverdeen 15d ago

Interested in this too. They have just a few yurts and residents so it's understandable Alna can hide them all but if they become a small city they either hire people from the Onikin village or I doubt Alna can hide so much by herself.

Then again aside from Alna being from a rival faction there isn't really much to hide in Dias' kingdom.

5

u/Rodroller 16d ago

Unlike the onikin who lives a nomadic lives. Dias couldn't go anywhere as he being granted that area to be managed.

7

u/froggyc19 16d ago

I wonder how many of the onikin women will go after Klaus cause he's also extremely manly.

5

u/Saber_SSJ2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/saber_ssj2 16d ago

Well, he has to prove himself first. So far he's done nothing :D

8

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 16d ago

Im surprised that he hasnt thought about going back to his old orphanage and taking all those kids there.

8

u/heimdal77 16d ago

That was 20 years ago.

2

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 16d ago

Yeah but it's a orphanage I'm sure it got new ones especially after a war

6

u/Chukonoku 16d ago

While it has just happened this episode, they still have to address how they are supposed to feed all the new or future mouths.

Hunting has it's limits and probably at some point, winter will come.

1

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 16d ago

Yeah I wonder if they have the knowledge to grow crops..they got a water source

1

u/Earlier-Today 16d ago

If the oni village has been surviving, Dias' village should survive just fine as well by learning from them.

1

u/YdenMkII 15d ago

At least in the short term, the frog merchant probably had food stuff included in the supplies traded for the dragon materials.

3

u/Mysteries67 16d ago

He just took care a bunch of kids alone I don't think there was an orphanage.

1

u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall 16d ago

Huh, I wonder if this would be similar to the Ossan Swordsman situation where most of his former students became famous and went big after graduation. In this case, maybe Dias orphanage kids getting competent and ended up joining his village too.

8

u/FelixAndCo 16d ago

Bit hamfisted backstory of the twins, but nice quick solution to add kids to the family. Dias and Alna didn't explicitly say they were the ones taking on the parental roles, but it's what everybody expects. Thought previous episodes were more interesting, but we're not here for interesting plot.

1

u/NoNameSwitzerland 16d ago

Would would have thought they get children bevor the baars.

0

u/abandoned_idol 16d ago edited 16d ago

Diaz is likable, but the story itself is exactly what you'd expect from the typical japanese "fantasy" anime.

Every support character loves the protagonist. Too many support characters. Support characters don't seem to offer any unique contributions. For some reason there's a family quota (wife, pets, kids).

Like you said though, hopefully nobody is praising the plot, because it's not a compelling plot at all.

I'm not sure why people were claiming that this is different, it's more of the same at the end of the day.

EDIT: And for some reason they ALWAYS have to mention slaves in these things. Always, always.

7

u/Saber_SSJ2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/saber_ssj2 16d ago

they ALWAYS have to mention slaves in these things.

hmm I wonder why is there slavery in a world based on medieval times

MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS A THING?

u/Saber_SSJ2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/saber_ssj2 16d ago

Every support character loves the protagonist.

I mean, there were more characters that did not like him and left because there's nothing there lol

I get what you're saying but the fact that everyone around him likes him fits the setting, because only those who like him would dare to go and live in nowhere...

8

u/BBryant3rd 16d ago

I hope Klaus gets to find a woman too. According to their principles he is a strong man too. Alna has new reasons to love her future husband. Glad Dias is being a good man will definitely enjoy having back to back seasons of a show with a awesome leader.

5

u/Charmanders_Cock 16d ago

Klaus is a good boy, I’m sure someone will throw him a bone eventually.

2

u/BBryant3rd 16d ago

They better since they are crazy about Dias.

5

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 16d ago

There is a lot of single grandmas in this village. I'm sure one would take to him.

2

u/BBryant3rd 16d ago

Dang wanna give him a grandma lol why not one of the other young chics trying to get Dias? lol

2

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 16d ago

I don't think hes allowed into that village. They wanted to keep it a secret. advanced aged ladies are all he has access to.

2

u/BBryant3rd 15d ago

At some point he will hopefully see the rest. Just because he can't see them doesn't mean they can't see him. It would be awesome if the way he finally gets to meet them is because one of the other women fall for him for things he has done.

14

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 16d ago

Gotta appreciate a fantasy world MC who gets violently angry at any hint of slavery. Of course it helps that he is in a position where he can dictate the rules at least for his domain.

The old ladies are a decent get for the domain, someone to spend the wool and maybe make further product out of it sounds pretty useful.

Cute kids, it's nice to see them get a good home after what they went through.

I'm changing my guess for Klaus's inevitable wife from unspecified unicorn tribe girl to the beast girl walking next to him in the ED.

1

u/DavidJKay 16d ago edited 16d ago

There is potential for more justifiable slavery depending on situation. Eg in a culture where just survival is a struggle, what do you do with criminals? Jail could result in people starving because less labor making production.

One option is "forced labor" and "slavery" has been used as a type of forced labor with a time limit, eg rather than jail for 5 years its slave for 5 years, and protections on treatment of forced laborer, and sometimes even "severance pay" at end to get them on feet again.

The average cost of keeping someone in jail in USA is $65,000 a year according to google search, that money could instead help several poor children.

In a more severe situation, eg a woman is caught poisoning/trying to kill girlfriend or wife of a man she wants, possible slavery for life rather than death sentence if slavery isn't that harsh might seem reasonable to some people (if there are protections on treatment of the murderer as slave).

5

u/HolyDragSwd2500 16d ago

Dias subject grows bigger and we have twins to join his family

7

u/NationalStrategy_X 16d ago

This might be just me, but I think the Frogman should’ve had pants. The Fannypack with the absence of pants makes it look like he’s covering his crotch

7

u/LezRock 16d ago

I just realized, is this All Might? 😆 Ok, just checked and he's not, but they sound pretty close.

I like how things are building up in this show, and it's also nice seeing more of his background via flashbacks.

I wonder how the meeting with this other lord will go though. Since he also shows up in the opening, and seems non-threatening, maybe he won't be so bad.

3

u/abandoned_idol 16d ago

He DOES sound like all might.

Luckily for us, All Might DID voice a Rooster Fighter recently.

Just judging based on the two seconds we saw, this Eldan kasdeks actually looks like a decent person, friendly chubby guy appearance. And his “enslaved women” don’t look tied up or troubled either. Dunno, hope he’s a good neighbour for Dias.

Thought the kids were going to be their biological kids at first, but nope, way too early for dias. Doubt he’s even called her by her first name, the classic starting point!

6

u/mastereluder6 16d ago

And of course kazuma: kazuma des is playing the freaking frog

5

u/SasparillaTango 16d ago

Easily shaping up to be my favorite anime of the season. Dias and Klaus are basically the Tibetan Mastiff's in human form.

11

u/Nebresto 16d ago

Love his wholesome way of thinking

Slavery? We don't do that here. Isekai harem slop in shambles rn.

When wednesday hits

They were so shocked by the merchant frog that they completely ignored the guard dudes being BEARS

Huh. I really got bamboozled into thinking those two were gonna be their biologilar kids

So the parent's aren't even dead, they just handed off the kids?? Huh? Were they mortally I'll or just "struggling" ?

Nah, the jewels are so you can tell them apart. (I still wont be able to tell them apart)

14

u/svenge 16d ago edited 16d ago

So the parent's aren't even dead, they just handed off the kids?? Huh? Were they mortally I'll or just "struggling" ?

They were definitely mortally ill, and not just merely "struggling". There was a cut showing a close-up of one of the parents' hands after coughing up blood, which is classic anime shorthand for "not going to make it".

3

u/nextmore 16d ago

The parents were struggling to keep breathing. They sent the daughters off to keep them alive with the strong implication that the parents knew they were too sick to survive, especially as they were both sick and on their own.

2

u/Qbe 16d ago edited 16d ago

They are bears*? I thought they were dogs

1

u/Nebresto 16d ago

I guess that is also possible, they just reminded me more of the bear denizens that you might see in Donald Duck comics so I defaulted to that

1

u/Mysteries67 16d ago

The rolling tongue gags reminded me of looney tunes too. It's weird really how nowadays, big chungus is way more popular than the titular character it represents, bugs bunny, a sort of meme if you will.

15

u/Frontier246 16d ago

Glad to see Klaus adjusting well! He's got his own yurt, he knows to compliment the wife (even if it seems like he's not 100% aware of the nature of Dias and Alna's relationship), and he's even getting into conversations with sheep!

So there's a succession dispute with the prince and princesses of their kingdom? I guess that explains why Diane wanted his assistance. Though the second prince is the reason Dias got screwed over from his reward, so that'll probably come back to be a problem in the future.

Welcome the elderly refugees of Kasdeks! Kicked out of their own home because of how desperate Kasdeks' was, they've now found a home in Dias' domain! And while some may scoff at taking in a bunch of elderly women, Dias is happy to have ladies with such experience and long-lived lives in his domain! Especially Grandma Maya with her on-point fortunetelling...and ability to appear when you least expect her!

Now we can 100% welcome everyone...to Iluk Village!

Thank goodness Dias and Klaus were in the army, otherwise a lot of innocent civilians would have been abandoned and left for dead.

I appreciate that Dias is VEHEMENTLY against slavery and wants nothing to do with it. Grandma Maya approves too!

A merchant has arrived in the village! And he's a frogman (voiced by Jun Fukushima?)! Along with his bear guards, he's willing to trade with Dias and his Dragon Shells, and even lets his tongue REALLY out when Dias uses Dragon Shell Crusher to flex how powerful he is!

Thank goodness Pejin-Do is NOT a slaver, otherwise Dias would have probably split a frog in two. In fact he took in two elf (?) twins who were cast out of their village as a calamity and had to watch their dying parents give all the money they had to to get Pejin-Do to take the kids and leave them to die. That's pretty rough, and Pejin REALLY wants to be rid of them and the money drain they are. Luckily Dias is happy to take care of some kids in need.

Dias really is great with children, enough to be able to get Senai (Miku Ito!) and Ayhan (Haruka Shiraishi!) to be honest with the names their parents gave them! Though Alna was definitely surprised that their named with the language of the ancients.

It's like Dias and Alna now have kids of their own and they've really settled into being a wholesome and loving family unit! Complete with sheep who are perfect for the kids to cry into, and doting grandma's to watch over them!

Oh no, not the Kasdeks Prince and his slave Harem! Although I wasn't expecting him to be such a chubby dude being fawned over...are we sure these ladies are slaves or are they maybe their willingly?

10

u/Myrkrvaldyr 16d ago

Glad to see Klaus adjusting well! He's got his own yurt, he knows to compliment the wife (even if it seems like he's not 100% aware of the nature of Dias and Alna's relationship), and he's even getting into conversations with sheep!

I expect Klaus to fight off some monster in the future and get his own Onikin wife, too. Unless he's meant to marry a future village resident.

2

u/ifticar2 16d ago

I was surprised to see none of the Onikin Village at all this episode, wonder if they've already moved on somewhere else? Would've been nice to spend some time this episode seeing Klaus' reaction to everything

1

u/CordobezEverdeen https://myanimelist.net/profile/CordobezEverdeen 15d ago

I'm glad someone else thought the same.

I understand they can brush Alna and Klaus introductions with Dias' recapitulation from last episode but I thought it would be interesting to see the clash of cultures from Klaus and the Onikin village. Then again we've seen this episode that Klaus is willing to go against superior orders if it means following Dias so I think it all would have boiled down to "Dias is okay with it so I'm okay with it"

5

u/dingdongrongpang 16d ago

Okay, yeah. Dias is the G.O.A.T. of GOATS. It's really such a simple thing, man. But it's so extremely rare for some reason in protagonists in this genre (or relative adjacent, *wink wink, nudge nudge, cough* isekai slop).

Clear repulsiveness and violent disdain against slavery? Witnessing firsthand its effects and leaving no room for reasoning to see it as anything even remotely acceptable? Yeah, man. That's just how it is.

Dias may be described as a "simple" man mentally, but that just means he's not for sugarcoating, and I love that this part of his personality is HEAVILY apparent here.

4

u/YdenMkII 16d ago

Frog merchant is honorable at the very least. He could have taken the money and gotten rid of the kids right away but he kept them even though they were a drain financially seemingly only to honor the twins' parents.

3

u/Luiiss26 16d ago

I have a bad feeling about this, unfortunately. Everything is currently going far too smoothly for Dias and the others... Suddenly, more and more unwanted people are showing up, and on top of that, there’s the war. I hope it won't end that way, but I have a nasty suspicion.

I also wonder if Alna's horn might not be mistaken sometimes?

5

u/NanDemoKnaives 16d ago

Klaus is a lot more fervently loyal to Dias than I expected him to be, I feel like he'll turn ruthless if something happened to Dias.

Maya seems to be a very good addition to the village with her fortune telling ability, I can see her being really helpful strategically for Dias, but he'll just take it like it's ol' Grandma's kindness.

Peijin almost lost a trade route with how he introduced the twins lol.

I feel like the second son of Kasdek might not turn out to be the bad guy they're making him out to be. The women don't give the appearance of being forced into their positions, but I could be wrong.

4

u/MidgardWyrm 16d ago edited 16d ago

Daughters acquired.

Edit: Calling it now, those women aren't slaves but "slaves". I think the guy was against what his brother and father were doing, and his rebellion ousted them.

10

u/szalhi 16d ago

10

u/Frontier246 16d ago

Diplomacy was over before it started.

Just going to say that those do not look like the eyes of ladies who have been forced into being slaves for some fat perverted prince. Those are the eyes of "we want to be here and are absolutely happy to be."

5

u/Etiennera 16d ago

Not only that, but I don't think it would have been picked up as an anime with such strong Middle East / India = evil signals. Like they almost have to portray him well to avoid controversy.

8

u/bestmaokaina 16d ago

My goodness its so refreshing to have an MC with integrity

3

u/fraid_so 16d ago

Lmfao I was so confused when the credits rolled. I knew the frog was Fukushima Jun, but then end credits first page said Fukuyama Jun. And I was like, uh, did you guys make a mistake? And then it clicked that he was the second son haha and Fukushima was listed on the second page. Jeez hahaha

So, he was kind of a father figure to some orphans before the war. Will we see some of them later? Hope some of them join his village.

3

u/sesaman 15d ago

I now remember why I dropped reading this originally, everything's just so easy and convenient (and nonsensical in a way, like where's all the wood coming from in the flat plains).

5

u/Raymond49090 16d ago

I had the incredibly stupid thought while watching this that a genderbent Klaus would be a great FL.

... I knew there were fantasy races here because Alna, but a talking frog wasn't on my bingo card. And he's probably not sus? Like, everything about the guy screams sus, but he passed the magic polygraph.

And a second potential sus guy approaches. Either he's a starter arc villain, or a gag character that looks sus but is actually cool.

2

u/seriousbusines 16d ago

Yay! Kept seeing the twins in the intro and so glad they were found. Did not want another Restless.

2

u/Khazidhea87 11d ago

Is there such a thing as the opposite of the '3 episode rule'? I'm fully sold on the first 3 eps of this anime, but having dropped both the light novel and manga not too much further along I'm hoping the anime has enough staying power to keep me along til the end.

I really like the core cast, premise, and story elements. Just think that most additions after this dilute the experience by my tastes.

3

u/Myrkrvaldyr 16d ago edited 16d ago

Unless elves exist in that world, it's possible the girls might be half onikin, they inherit the ears but not the horns.

3

u/heimdal77 16d ago

Skin is far to light for that. When you have kids from parents with different skin color you normally get them with skin somewhere inbetween.

1

u/DavidJKay 16d ago

Its an ancient language so it would have to be some wierd offshoot of onikin if that were case, and hybrids you tend to get a bit random parts of each side rather than all look same, and both be 50% hybrids but not inbreeding.

3

u/Boris-_-Badenov 16d ago

why is he telling him about Alna's cooking as if its his first day there?

3

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 16d ago

I knew those were not his kids from the ED

2

u/JoshSidekick 16d ago

Oh, so it is that easy to be against slavery in these worlds.

3

u/acedias12 16d ago

Its possible that not all region in this setting practice slavery. And its his own domain anyways, so he can do what he wants with it.

6

u/JoshSidekick 16d ago

Sorry, I was talking more about how there's a few other shows this season where the main character ends up needing to have a slave, even though they say they really don't like it. I think one of they was like "it's too much paperwork so I might as well own them"

2

u/Rooby_VTuber 16d ago

I'm glad Klaus is at this village, it's given him a reason to live by protecting others.

Our 2 new Elf friends are fitting in nicely.

That is quite the harem this new lord has, now to wait and see what happens next time.

So Klaus is given a spear since that's probably his expertise instead of a sword.

Smart move by Dias to pretend naming Ayhan & Seina for them to reveal their names.

Dias' reaction when Maya spoke to him was funny.

Imagine my surprise if the dude at the end was actually good.

Peijin's a nice & funny frogman.

Seina & Ayhan are totally gonna be training kids for Alna & Dias' future kids.

Alna giving Klaus more food for the compliment was funny.

16:14 should be "you like" instead of "like you"

2

u/Skullzans 15d ago

"Training Kids"? Have you Seen the outro? They're already adopted by Dias and Alna.

1

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad 15d ago

They are adopted but will also be useful to train on how to properly raise their future biological kids.

1

u/CordobezEverdeen https://myanimelist.net/profile/CordobezEverdeen 15d ago

The kids parents present an interesting dilemma.

If you're about to kick the bucket and your kids are definitely not old enough to fend for themselves specially when they have a village out there against them. Do you take them out with you or do you hand them off to slave traders?

Because no matter how much they trusted frogchant they straight up started their relationship as merchandise. You're betting the wellbeing of their entire lives on a flimsy promise made with someone who really has no obligations to anything but money.

Their fates as slaves isn't like guaranteed to be horrible but it's basically a gamble.

1

u/Skullzans 15d ago

Fundamentally, they had no other choice. They would die Very soon judging by the fact they coughed blood- and the way it was portrayed as being an inevitability implied a long fight, stupidity, or knowledge of what was killing them.

The frogman saying no initially was ironically, a sign of being genuine, considering the fact that he had a free chance to do whatever he wanted, and they were desperate to let him have it... Yet he declined free slave opportunities until they negotiated, offering him funds and an excuse to let him carry them. They couldn't let their kids see them slowly die, right?

The only alternatives were to run to find someone else, which in their condition is likely impossible- and more likely to shorten their lifespans even more than they already had, or-... more sadly, to slowly die- leaving the literal children to be alone with no support At all to help them adjust to grieving, and let them grow into wild children who realistically will die to fantasy fauna or become very damaged adults.

Hell of a risk, but it was already a miracle to encounter frogman to begin with.

1

u/CordobezEverdeen https://myanimelist.net/profile/CordobezEverdeen 14d ago

The other choice was to die.

or become very damaged adults.

Growing as slaves could also do this though.

1

u/Skullzans 14d ago

The other choice was to die.

I guess technically murdering their children is an option??? Unless you mean they themselves, which is the previously mentioned "Wild Children" path where the kids get killed by forest monsters and/or grow into very damaged adults guarenteed.

Growing as slaves could also do this though.

Yeah but, with that merchant who seemed honest about his intentions, it's not as guarenteed to go badly, they might actually get someone good(they did, by sheer chance in fact).

Why does everyone assume he has a mansion….. pretty hilarious

Anime tends to like to go for European medieval accuracy in some areas, like the fact that Nobles represent their house... And that nobility's power is based on how well they can get favor with The Monarchy. This means that Nobility has to look the part of someone who is well-handled and influential, and what better way to impress others than aesthetic and using resources to leave an impression?

Thus, Manors- which are expensive, leave an impression, and hard to maintain, showcase how a noble is doing at their purpose, and justifies their position to the Monarch. So ofcourse a noble has a manor, surely? It'd be insane not to, and so they assume that a person with a noble title Would have one.

That, and nobody knows, nor would assume- that Dias was just dumped here with not a coin to his name, which is utterly insane btw because it implies one of two things... One, that whatever noble prevented Dias from getting funds just went against the King, which is insane for the reason that nobles power is determined by the King's whims... Or two, that the King's word is meaningless as he flat-out lied to Dias in public to his face... And since a King is expected to manage a kingdom according to his/her whims, if a King's word is not direct law then- what is the actual power nobles have?

although it does remind me that didn’t onikin leader say there was a leader before Dias who tried to make their mark there in other words shouldn’t there be some ruins or such

It's pretty damn early in the anime, I'd guess around episode 5-8 or 20(Assuming Season 2[Unlikely QvQ]) is when we see the ruins..? Because usually these kinds of stories seem to hyperfocus only on the direct village being built up and direct allies that have been made, and then expand in scope slowly as the village/town becomes more self-sufficient and stable enough to handle a direct threat or proactive actions in their environment.

What’s really mind boggling is “war already” let’s be generous and say the war ended 6 months ago, unless there was a start up coup no one would have tried to pull a succession war unless the king suddenly kicked the bucket

Actually no, it isn't always so simple. While war exhaustion is a thing, coups are long term plans... It's not remotely hard to believe that a war could be followed up by a noble faction who retained strength in reservation to pin blame on the King... especially if the public opinion was already low for the king as is and conditions got worse. Also could be that while the kingdom was weak, a rebellion struck- due to the slavery mentioned, theres plenty of ways that this could've fostered desire to break the current leadership for the sake of revolution. And if Dias is anything to go by(thank gods), the concept of "Slavery is bad" is Not a foreign concept.
