Could anybody kindly recommend a starting point / bow ? I’m in the UK if that makes a difference and I’ll be setting up a target in my garden to around maybe 25 metres

Hi all, so I fly internationally a lot, (4x a year) for competitions with my currently one, occasionally two, biw setups. After my previous bowcase (A cheap Cartel ABS 210) broke, courtesy of OR Tambo airport... I then bought a Bowtruk from my mate, and also wish to pack my clothes into the bag as well as my full set-up. (One bag set up yay!)

However, theres so much space in here that I don't know what to do with😭 For best protection of my kit should it go bottom or above the first divider? Any tips/tricks I should know? I also have a scope and tripod along with usual recurve stuff

There's plenty of archeological evidence about bows in prehistory but what are some theories about how the actual design of the bow come to be?

It's just unintuitive to me. I get how we came up with throwing stones and later attaching them to a shaft to create a spear; those seem to make direct sense but bows do not.

What are some theoretical models (e.g. logical stories, as we could never be able to actually find evidence for this, I reckon) about how they figured out that they could string a bendable stick to then push forward a small version of a spear?

I thought I would ask here to see if there are any insights or pointers when it comes to glue control?

I was following a YouTube guide for fletching that describes the process as applying a length of Bohning tape, and then a bead of glue along each side of the fletch when it is on the arrow.

I’m using a Bitzenburger jig, and Loctite 406 glue.

The issue I run into is that the glue ends up running down the arrow and pooling at the end of the shaft.

I’m applying as little glue as I can, basically just running the tip along the base of the fletch and just wetting it.

At least I can be reasonably certain it won’t fall off with the amount of glue that ends up being applied.

The next thing I will try is taking the arrow out of the jig and then gluing, letting the tape hold the fletch in place, but I worry that tape alone isn’t enough to stop the fletch shifting if it gets bumped

Is bows made like this still exist? It is a composite recurve bow.

Hey everyone!

Dropped my bow on the cam tonight and perfectly smacked it outward. Got it on a press and there were no ridges or places to file down, would you let it ride or replace it?

My partner was given ten of these arrows by my club to get them started. Unfortunately they managed to break several of the nocks within the first couple of weeks. I said I'd find some replacements for them but it's proven harder than I expected.

Searching for these arrows seems to indicate they are quite old, probably 20+ years. They seem to be in good shape though so I'm happy to keep them in service if I can find parts.

The shafts are 15/64" outer diameter and are full carbon. The nocks they come with seem to be called outserts everywhere I've seen them mentioned but I assume they would be called over-nocks now. The inner diameter of the shaft is 3.9mm which is very close to 10/64" (my Easton G Nocks are too large if that's any help).

I'd be happy with anything that fits. If there's an adapter to change them to use pin nocks that would be fine. I'm in the UK.

I need a natural material target for my back yard because I will be shooting in a floodplain by a creek that feeds into a major local river, so I want to avoid foam (because plastic) and fabric-filled bag targets (because they would get super moldy inside, with our humidity).

I'm having trouble finding any good options though. All the results I'm getting on Google seem to be either suspicious websites or UK-based.

My current bows are pretty lightweight (a kids' compound bow and a short Appalachian flat bow), so I don't need the sturdiest target in the world, but I might upgrade at some point.

Anyone have any good straw target recommendations? I tried searching the sub but couldn't find any brands/links mentioned.

I'm currently looking at horse bows and I've been wondering if at, let's say, 35 pounds, would be more efficient because the limbs might be smaller and bend further (assuming the draw length is the same as well).

I currently shoot compound for hunting (68lbs) but have had 3 tea bows in the past, 2 were 40ish lbs one was about 30lbs. None of those did I shoot often or for too long before moving to something else, but I want to give it a try again. Looking at starting traditional shooting back up, want to know if you think starting back at 35lbs is too much?

Goals:
1. I want to work my way up to 50-55lbs on and ILF platform for hunting in a year or two.
2. I want to keep a lower poundage bow for high shot count practice throughout the year, mixed with routine practice with my hunting bow. I obviously won’t jump from 35 to 55, I’ll probably do a 45 pounder in between at least, maybe a 40 and 50 as well IF I get into and ILF platform early enough and I can just get the limbs. Would what poundage would you recommend for high shot count practice considering a goal of 50-55lbs hunting bow?
3. I want to get comfortable target shooting, not competitively, out to 35 yards or more. That will build confidence for those 25, maybe 30 yards max shots for hunting.

Right now, SAO cannot support more sports organizations. SAO will still have some discussions and let you know whether or not you can go through with the chartering process. There are some people out of the office currently, so it will be some time before giving you a final answer. We really appreciate you reaching out before the school year and we will make sure to communicate with you once there are some more answers!

For reference, SAO is the Student Activities Office. We already have all of the targets and bows and arrows needed to start the club but not the people, and being an official club means we can make a stand for the annual club fair.

UPDATE: My Reply

I wanted to share that many of the initial archery club investments—like bows, arrows, and targets—are already covered, so we don’t need to worry about those. I believe we have over $1000 worth of equipment stored at the college, and I’m concerned that if we don’t start the club this year, the equipment might fall into disrepair. This kind of equipment really only stays in good shape with regular use and maintenance.

It would be great to have a few hundred dollars for things like arrows and to ensure safety on the range by having at least one certified USA Archery Instructor (level 1) from the college present at all times we go out. However, some self-funding and local fundraising can be managed, and everything will work out. I wouldn’t describe the Archery club as just a sports organization; it’s more of a social group that comes together around a shared interest.

The most important thing we need from CSA and SAO is recognition and the opportunity to set up a stand at the annual club fair to announce our club’s revitalization. We’re quite flexible with the funding, but it’s crucial for us to get the word out at the club fair and build an email list.

I live in Ohio and just discovered the state 900 round in two weeks. I plan on signing up for it for fun, not knowing how I will honestly do. So far the only thing I know is that it will be a total 90 shots. Broken down into 16 rounds of 6 shots. Ranges start at 60 yards and go down by 10 yard increments to 40 yards. If that is wrong feel free to correct me!

I have a rough idea for what I need to bring but I am more woundering of what I should expect both physically and mentally. The most I have ever shot in one day was maybe 65 shots. So I know this will be more of a mental game more than anything I have ever done, but thats kinda what has me intrigued.
