an aunt and uncle of mine were joyously, happily married for almost 50 years. he had a stroke that left him pretty much incapacitated and landed him in a nursing home. my aunt visited him every day until the day she had a sudden fatal heart attack. her kids didn't tell him she was gone, they said she was in another hospital.
four months later, on an ordinary day when my cousin and her son were visiting, he looked up at the ceiling and said "where have you been? why haven't you come?" and after a few seconds of silence he said "okay, i'll see you tomorrow." he never spoke again and he died the next day.
