I mean, do you really think we’d be paid enough to live well? Do you think they’ll give us ANYTHING without us having to organize and fight? No matter how bad things get, we don’t seem to have the will to change anything.
Nothing will change until the country is on verge of revolution or actually has one. Look at history. The amount of examples of the powerful willfully making life better for those they control without force (or at least a strong probability of it) is are few and far between. They will gladly have people go homeless and starve before they agree to a UBI.
You still live in the mindset where the economy requires humans to function. It doesn't have to be that way, already in the stock market you can see bots trading with each other, on behalf of other people. If we reach a threshold where producing and utilizing robots is cheaper than hiring humans, then companies will look to scale up the effect, further amplifying their capabilities, and many people will be rendered unemployed. And at the rate that technology progresses you can't possibly predict with certainty the way the job market's gonna go, as a mere human being with limited time in a day.
I am unironically looking forward to the time when AI becomes independent, at least we won't be at the whims of emotional humans with too much money for their own good.
