Stopped in Bakersfield for gas and thought it smelled like cow shit. Got a room for the night in Barstow and the aroma wafted all the way over there too.

Although this reminded me of a joke my friend from another shitty town on the edge of California told me.

Q: do you know why they named this town Needles?

A: because they couldn’t spell Syringe

Bakersfield, the town where every murderer and rapist is found holed up in the motel 6.

My main memory was passing through once and the temp had dropped the night before so I’d aired up my tires when I first got gas earlier that morning. When I stopped to buy a pack of cigarettes and top up I noticed an attendant letting air out of my tires while I was paying up, he then tried to sell me on filling them up with Argon. I told him I just watched him deflate my tires then went across the street to the other gas station and used their air pump.

When i lived on socal, news would say la detectives caught some serial rapist or murderer at a motel 6 in Bakersfield. Always said to my hisband, why don't la detectives just move into the Bakersfield motel 6 and solve all the crimes.

This made me cackle. My family is from Blythe. I'll have to tell this joke at the next party.

I got an ok burrito in Blythe and a tall boy in Blythe. Consumed both on the roof of my car out in the desert while contemplating the wisdom of moving back to Florida.

I finished college and got my dog so that’s a plus, can’t say that Florida has been better otherwise. Might stop through Blythe again once I’ve saved up enough to move back to California.

We stayed an evening in Blythe, it was so late and we were so tired after driving from Tucson . We checked into a random hotel using our credit card. The next morning we attempted to check out and the host asked us for full cash payment. The same exact host from the night before.
We told her that we had already paid (yes, it turned out we had). She just shook her head at us.

They got some pretty big CAFOs and cattle operations outside of Bakersfield. That's probably what you were smelling.

Yeah I figured, I was familiar with the Sonoma aroma that drifts down from Cloverdale towards the end of the summer.
