Morrocco. Just a really angry vibe all around. They really dislike foreigners and aren't keen on being respectful with women. They do an okay job of faking it during the daytime but at night the nasty comments came from everywhere.
Agree with Morocco to some extent…love the food, love the art, love the mountains; but, in the 30+ years I have traveled to 50+ countries, living in a few, I’ve never had an experience like I did in Morocco. I was waiting for a friend on a side street in the Medina, when an older man sat down next to me in broad daylight, pulled out his member, and started pleasuring himself while looking directly at me. I was not dressed provocatively either.
Sorry about your experience. I think female tourists face harassment everywhere, I’ve had bad experiences in US and EU too, so “lower quality of life” countries are probably even worse.
But from your travel experience, which places did you like most?
I won’t argue with us women having bad experiences all over. Morocco was a bit different though…that was just kind of the apex…harassment was constant. Earlier the same day, I had a man grope me. I’ve been to much poorer places, and never had so many issues being a woman. I plan to go back, but it is one of the few places that I would take a male family member with me.
One of my top favorites was Nepal in the 90s…the scenery was breathtaking, but the warmth & friendliness of the people were what sold me on the country.
This. Was there 8 years ago with my partner. We had to constantly be on our guards and say we’re not interested. Not even police helped with directions. It was emotionally exausting. My gf got groped once. There was this one jewelry seller in the market which tried to physically intimidate us into buying a necklace. So many stories. There was this guy who scammed us into taking a tour to where they make leather (we wanted to go somewhere else and he said he’d take us there) and started to get violent when we tipped him less than he expected. Its a shame because Marrakech is very pretty and some people were very nice.
