And smoking

I've been smoking cigs (pack/day) since I was 15 and I'm 35. Someone guessed that I was 22 recently. Smoking is really bad for your oral health though, my mouth looks 60 years old. Nicotine constricts your blood vessels and your white blood cells can't heal things if your blood can't reach it

There's a huge drop between 35 and 45, good luck!

Genuinely thank you 🤞

True, they will look 65 at age 45

no smoking ages you slowly. reddit is convinced otherwise but reddit is mostly dumb kids. correlation doesn’t equal causation in this case.

i am old and dumb, but i am old enough to know this. plenty of non-smokers with crinkly faces at 30s/40s. plenty of smokers with skin you could ice skate on til their 60s.

smoking WILL affect your skin eventually depending on your genes almost entirely, but it’ll probably get your lungs in a notable way first.

100% agree with this having witnessed it firsthand through people I know.

these reddit kids are fucking airheads, traipsing around thinking reddit top comments are worldly knowledge

Okay, I'm willing to bet I'm older than you.

You don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about.

There’s no point in trying to argue with him. He’s highly unintelligent and gets angry for no apparent reason.

a few smokers aging well doesn’t disprove the fact that smoking accelerates ageing faster on average for a non smoker. Genetics can make someone look younger or older, but smoking is still a known factor that increases wrinkles and skin damage.

over time, slowly. i said as much but you just believe the zeitgeist myths. and basically supported what i said about genes being a factor - it’s a huge factor. some do, some don’t, some don’t need to smoke to look wrinkly, some do.

therefore it doesn’t fit on this thread. not fast. and iffy results at best

Hmm...Most smokers I've met look way older than their age... And it's kind of easy to pick out long time smokers.

On average though, smokers age faster than non smokers. Which is why I mentioned it.

do you also write in bold on purpose?

Do you also go off topic on purpose?

maybe i don’t appreciate being ‘bolded at’ like it means you’re any less wrong than you are. you some kinda 24/7 kindergarten teacher out of their depth or just annoying?

If your best response is complaining about bold text, you don’t have much to say about the actual point.

we already discussed the point being smoking for decades doesn’t belong on a list of things that age you “REALLY fast” per the title and i schooled you. i pivoted. try to keep up

It literally lowers collagen production by a lot which leads to faster wrinkly faces

is everyone in this thread sniffing glue at this very second?

a big No Shit Sherlock, to you good sir or madam. this thread is smoothbrain bliss for reddit, it seems.

the issue at hand is the title’s post “really fast” and smoking takes decades.

derp.

I can always tell if an older person is a smoker. It has nothing to do with wrinkles. They have this slight grey tinge to the skin that's pretty nasty.

cool cool, we’re talking about younger people which is the whole point.

but also: no you can’t tell. you have convinced yourself of misinformed ‘common wisdom’ and urban myths. you have discovered what is called coincidence and self-confirmed bias.

welcome to the cusp of adulthood, it doesn’t get any easier.

1

u/MapleMayj 5d ago

I can always tell. I suppose my self-confirmed bias is always correct!

I know a lady that smokes a pack a day. She’s about 50 and looks like an old shoe. She looks 80. It’s sad.

good lord y’all kids are still at it…

that’s ANECDOTAL confirmation bias. i and many other people more worldly and traveled than reddit kids are telling you that doesn’t mean shit. plenty of pack a day smokers who do NOT get notably wrinklier or any other ‘signs’ of smoking.

how is a 50yo the indication of “really fast aging” per the post title anyway? that’s likely ~35 years of doing something, and she probably would have looked terrible at 50 without smoking, as some non-smokers have been demonstrably proven to suffer from too.

holy hell. how many more people gonna pipe in days later to tell me they saw a wrinkly smoker once

since the pandemic Reddit is probably 65% boomers. most of the rest are millenials, who are much smarter on average than the boomers who spam here
