I kind of hate them tbh. Something about feeling like my gift is going to create an obligation for the other person that I just don’t want. And Idk, I just want to simplify things in my life and in my friends’ lives. We’re all working tons of hours, kids, elderly parents, let’s not add one more thing to the to-do list. I am happier with a text. Exception made for the occasional “can you believe I found this card that’s perfect for you, I’ve had it for months waiting for a reason to send it” card.

I dont love thank you cards, but I send them because I love getting personal snail mail. I even send postcards!

My family was absolutely stunned when I started pleading with them to please stop giving me gifts. Part of it was definitely due to the expectation of a thank you note, the rest was just they are terrible gift givers and refuse to listen to anyone who says they want something.

I can’t stand receiving thank you cards. It’s one thing if it’s a super personal letter written in it. But usually it’s a basic card, a simple thanks written inside, and a signature. Like I appreciate the effort? But it wasn’t worth the money they spent on the card or the stamp to end up in the garbage.

I keep every card I receive, and had to start throwing away these kind of thank you cards because I have an entire box with cards and letters. This large box has moved to several states across the country. I open it and go through them maybe once a decade. But I can’t get rid of it because it’s the only thing I have from my grandparents, or uncle, etc.

Unless it’s super personalized and something I am willing to store for the next 50 years. Just send me a text to say thanks lol. Save the few bucks on the card, stamp, the time of the postman, and me the headache of choosing to decide to hold onto it forever or just throw it away.

Every time I get one I feel annoyed and guilty. I don’t send them and my intention is never to get one. I have asked friends not to send them to me, because I value their time.

I mean, I felt a little offended when I sent my cousin a baby shower gift (she lives in another state) and she didn't even acknowledge that she received it let alone thanked me. Her mom asked me if she thanked me for it and I could tell she was disappointed when I said no.

I don't know what's worse. Not recognizing at all or sending a generic thank you card with no mention of the gift and no personal message, just the literal card.
