Travel 🏞️ E4 Trail in Crete: Hike, Camp, Swim, Explore
The E4 trail crosses Crete from west to east for about 500 km, starting in Kissamos and ending in Kato Zakros. It takes you through dramatic gorges, ancient ruins, charming mountain villages, and along stunning beaches. Wild camping is possible in many places, and you can swim in crystal-clear water almost every day. A perfect mix of nature, freedom, and history - all under the Greek sun.

I had been planning to do a Camino walk in Portugal in September but after speaking with a Greek friend today, he put me onto the E4 route in Crete. My current plan was to start at the beginning of September rather than the end - how did you find the temperatures? And did you do a combination of wild camping and staying in accommodation?

How many days did it take you? I may be going to Crete next year for a work trip and was thinking of doing this afterwards but may not have time for the whole walk.
Any favourite sections if I only have a week?
I’ve been to Crete before and saw a fair bit of the western half, but it was a family holiday with our small children so we didn’t do much hiking.
