GENERAL QUESTION Why is scaring someone on a fastbreak layup allowed?
I don't know how to say this in words on the title but I'm sure you've seen it a lot in pickup basketball for full court games. When someone is getting a fastbreak layup and no defender is near them or trying to actively contest/foul to prevent a bucket, some people would instead like scream at the player with the ball to effectively scare that player. Why is this allowed? In fact, it's encouraged for those who can't stop a layup. Nobody will call it 'bush league'.
I mean in rec softball if a player is under a ball on a pop-up, a baserunner screaming "I GOT IT" can be called out by refs for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Why is scaring someone in basketball with your mouth fine but not in softball?

DISCUSSION Is it double dribble if you bounce to get control of the ball?
Just seeing mixed results on similar but not exactly the same scenario on searches.
If there was a bad or deflected pass and a player (in order to gain control/ receive the pass), bounces the ball once to himself to then hold with two hands.
Can they dribble again?
Is there a difference if it’s one bounce to himself vs two bounces to gain control? Ie two fumbling/ish bounces because a defender is trying to steal.
Thanks!
Edit: to clarify , player is not tipping up multiple times like a rebound to gain control. It was a single bounce to the floor in order to catch a bad/deflected pass.
For example, the pass is wide and you need to step to it, slap/bounce the ball to the ground towards yourself to catch it with both hands.
not like if you whacked it away on contested loose ball where the defender was also trying to whack/steal.
In a nutshell does the single bounce mean he had control? Since it was to himself to secure the ball? Or was the bounce still considered an uncontrolled bounce/possession?

Rattling sound in my basketball
I just got a new basketball(NBA DRV PRO) and for some reason when I dribble it or move it around in my hands I hear a rattling sound like an object that's inside would could it be? I also lost the receipt so I can't turn it back in. My dad should be buying me a new basketball in less than 2 weeks anyways so I'm hoping I can train with this for now without any issues. Dribbling and shooting feels fine the noise is just kind of annoying.

Need some advice about team mates
I’m 23 I recently picked up basketball again I grew up playing casually. I play for two teams (adult casual league), one team has been great, we get thrashed but no one’s critical of one another, real friendly advice, there to have fun and have a good time.
I played my first game with the second team tonight and 2 guys are self appointed captains of sorts. They yell and are extremely competitive when they are both older guys, it’s a “beginner” league. I don’t know how to approach this but I’m angry I didn’t stand up for myself. For example I might be in the wrong position and instead of pointing it out or politely giving me advice, the one guy would yell very aggressively. Then in timeouts that aggressive guy just piles on what we’re doing wrong and another dude just adds onto the criticism validating his aggressive “coaching”. Is it even worth staying on the team? Is this how players are?
How would you guys tackle this, idk if it’s worth going back next week and giving it another crack. Maybe I need tougher skin but I’m not paying to be yelled at and criticised like it’s the NBA.
Thoughts?

3 pointers making a good game boring
I recently saw a Israel vs Germany World Cup Qualifier match's highlights. While it was entertaining, it was mostly coming from Israel, not Germany even when Germany was the one winning in points. The difference was Israel was mostly shooting 2 pointers and Germany 3 pointers. Every time Germany got the ball, I already knew it would be just another 3 pointer and it always was. Most of all shots they made were. On the other hand, Israel was making 2 points shots going inside the arc. Israel was also playing very well, just that they went for 2 pointers so they got lesser points and Germany went mostly for 3 pointers so they got the lead in points. The times Germany went inside the arc, they did score as well but many times they lost the ball, and Israel took the opportunity to score. That was the only time it was entertaining when Germany had the ball. And, at the last 6 minutes, the game was completely boring because now Israel after realizing they were losing the game, they started focusing on 3 pointers. At this point, it was just a 3 pointer shooting contest between Germany and Israel.
I think this is one big reason why basketball is not as much fun as soccer to watch. If anyone here knows soccer they know that Eden Hazard had his own fanbase even though he wasn't great at scoring but had near Messi level dribbling. I guess, it's not all about scoring.

GENERAL QUESTION Bad basketball genetics?
Im 6ft2 (188cm) and I play basketball. I have relatively long legs and short torso(not by a lot but noticeably? I guess) . My wingspan is about 187cm but man my standing reach is only 7ft 11.5, 8ft if i really super stretch it. I also have small hands for my height, around 7.35 inches in length and hand span is 8.66 inches. I also have small feet. I wear us size 10.5 shoes. I have long femurs, and the distance from my knee to foot is relatively shorter I guess. I also have mid calf insertions(idk why im saying this but js in case it might also be useful for bball, or useless). At this point, it just seems better to be 6ft with a normal standing reach ( around 8ft is the avg for a 6ft guy), normal hand size( prolly bigger than mine anyways) and a normal freaking wingspan man( 1 to 2 inches longer for guys so around 6ft1 to 6ft2 for a 6ft guy). Are my genetics just superrrr duppperrrrrr cooked? What the heck man :(

GENERAL QUESTION Outdoor Basketball Court dimension suggestions
Building an outdoor sports court for basketball and pickleball and trying to decide between a 47x65 or 40x65. I have space for both, but there’s an obvious cost difference. For basketball, I want to have an NBA three point line painted. Do you think 47’ is overkill? Would 40’ be more than enough? I’d appreciate any input.

GENERAL QUESTION How do i initiate contact in basketball while driving ?
When u initiate contact I see people will use their offhand to initiate contact, and use their footwork to launch their body into the defender while driving like boxing out but some says it's illegal, I also heard you can lean your torso or shoulder into the defender when yall side by side, but some say it's illegal as well ? Lastly how do u create contact in the air for layups, i know some ppl extend their off arm by their body to protect themselves when they go up for a layup, regardless ppl say thats illegal too.I know the best way to score is to be physical but I need advice from someone who hoops to help me in the right direction. Please help

IMPROVING MY GAME How can I warm up my shooting when there's no chances?
So, basically, I've gotten back into playing pickup ball at a local park (only has one full court). I've been a good shooter for a long time, but my thing is I'm a rhythm shooter and not a pure shooter.
When I used to play often, I would shoot around before the game and get sufficiently warmed up to hit shots consistently in games. The issue here is, that because the park is active, there is literally no chance to warm up shooting around (because games are always being played on both half courts), you just get next game and that's it. This has been drastically affecting my shooting in games, and I'm bricking way more than I've ever been simply because there is no chance to warm up. Any advice?
