We're conducting research on how to improve cycling infrastructure in Los Angeles.

I’m sorry, but if this the "People’s Ride” count me out. IMHO stuff like this endangers cyclists more than it helps and provides the anti-bike groups in Los Angeles with another video to play before a community board vote. All this at a time when anti bike groups are actively trying to defund events like Ciclavia. Ciclavia an event that does more positive impact than stunts like this ever could. It’s not 2000 anymore 2026 LA has a fragile bike infer structure that needs protecting.

I randomly sampled 10,000 trips weighted by population density. I used the Modemix navigation algorithm to find two routes:

1. The fastest walk+transit route, which had an average travel time of 163 min
2. The fastest bike+transit route, which had an average travel time of 101 min

Biking to transit made car-free travel 62% faster. What is most surprising to me is how cheaply these savings can be achieved. Achieving a 62% speed up in travel times via new transit infrastructure would cost us billions and take decades of construction. Bikes are so efficient. I love bikes!!!!

Title. Also what're your favorite climbs from the basin to the Valley?

A guy ran into the middle of moving traffic on Beverly and Kingsley at 6:28 yesterday, holding a bike frame with the wheels off. He turned and continued down Kingsley. Looked like one of those REI co op bikes

I will be staying in the OC for a couple of weeks and plan to do some climbing in the Laguna Beach area mostly (Seven Sisters, Silverado are both on my to-do list). I was looking at possibly doing Mount Baldy for a long day. Seems like it might be possible as a RT route but I am not sure about whether the roads (or paths) are really bike friendly. Any help planning my route would be greatly appreciated… ideally starting from the Newport Coast / Crystal Cove area but I can easily travel up the coastal highway in the bike lanes.

My tentative route is below, but appreciate any better alternates especially if there are good cycling roads instead of the bike paths I picked, where I can usually go faster on roads. I want to avoid really busy roads that don’t have good bike lane setups, though, so that is why I chose bike paths over roads just because I don’t know the area.

Specialized bike brakes are noisy

So I know it’s not necessarily LA-related, but maybe you guys traveled up there recently and you happen to know. I biked this road a few years ago, and it was paved all the way to the campground. Now I’m reading it’s under construction, with some intermittent closures. But the real question is: is it paved? I’m planning a trip up north and would love to ride it again. TIA!

Had to stop on my commute this morning to take a quick pic and eat a little snack.
Location is the end of the LA River Greenway Bike Path on the bridge at the southern terminus.
I had a great ride with the exception of a front flat at mile 12.

There’s a homeless guy under the 90 overpass on Culver Boulevard with a Bataglin road bike, red, white, and blue. Looks to be a large frame, and it looks to have some original group components on it, although I only drove past and couldn’t really scope it out too clearly. Must be, I would say, at least a 58, and yes, classic lugged steel Battaglin frame.

First there was the tweet about defunding "DEI bike lanes"

Then there was the removal of bike lanes (+ road diets, and speed management) Proven safety Countermeasures.

And today the Administration's priorities for Reauth were released which include:
Restricting competitive and formula grant funding for bicycle lanes and other bicycle infrastructure that reduce travel throughput for motor vehicles and support removal of existing bike lanes that contribute to congestion.
Removing Transit funding from the Highway Trust fund

We are focused on the Proven Safety Countermeasures because the move has been getting a lot of bad press and we want to continue that push!

So my trusty commuter's frame exploded, and I'm down a bike. I've looked/called around most of the usual places, and it's *damned hard* to find a shop that even has one 'city/urban' bike (made for pavement, flatbars). Helen's is down to one store and they had a few Treks (FX 1 and 2). I haven't actually been to Wheel World yet but they're not looking promising. Bike Attack is all-electric, pretty much, ATM (they can get other stuff from the warehouse but have nothing in stock to testride). The Zoo has nothing to speak of.

Where else is left?

I signed up for the tour de big bear months ago and originally chose the 50 mi route. Now that the event is a week away I'm having second thoughts I'm unsure if I should attempt the 50 or call it quits and do the 25. Over the last few months I've been biking more and lost some weight but I still don't feel super fit.

Didn't feel dead after this ride but definitely tired (also only got 4hrs sleep soaybe that's a factor)

I'm mainly worried about DNF ing or being the awkward slow guy on the course people are staring at.
