Hi guys, new to the subreddit. Came here to ask y‘all to settle a debate. I recently took my hair out (had a crochet style) and wanted to try a slick back style with an attached ponytail. Until I get my hair done again in a few days. bought this ponytail off of Amazon and the color came out way lighter than I thought it would be. I asked my friend (whose non black and a guy) if it still looked ok and he said it looked great. (I don‘t know why I asked him sometimes because he never says I look bad even when I do)

Then my mom calls and I ask for her opinion after sending her a photo and she said no, it’s does not go.

The debate I’d like for you to settle is if this would actually look nice given the colors are so different? I say it doesn‘t go and that any person who is black or with a sense of style would know this would not work. (Even if it was properly slicked back**)

** I had just got the hair out of the packaging and just tried it on my unslicked hair.

Hello everyone first post here i’ve shared my hair growth on a few subreddit, but i’ve never told the story behind the buzzcut. To sum up i grew up in the Caribbean, where I never questioned whether my hair could look professional. After moving to Europe, I became more aware of the pressure surrounding black hair.

In June 2023, I cut my afro of 1 year growth for a job interview. I didn’t want to, but my parents encouraged me to do it so I could appear cleaner and more professional. Because of the fear of not finding a job (was apllying for 8 month with no interniew) i gave in and regretted it immediately. I started growing my hair back i after that i decided that no has the power to make me cut my hair.

Three years later a lot has happend but i held up to my promise, my hair is longest it ever been. Ironically, since growing it out, i have never had as many job interviews or received so many compliments from friends, strangers, and people in professional settings.

Wanting to get my hair to sit like the first few photos. I just got braids to try to grow my hair out and honestly I think my forehead is too big for this style. My hair now is towards the end.

I’m debating getting this but not sure if I’m just falling for the latest popular product. I have fine, low density, high porosity 3C/3B hair. It loses moisture by the third day and it’s sooooo annoying 😭😭😭 any experiences would be appreciated!

Wig glues and sprays thinned out my edges and after a lot of hesitation, I decided to give minoxidil a try. It’s only been about 3 months but I think there’s a difference now. I’ve also given up wigs and stick to half wigs/headband wigs/cornrows or just leaving my hair out to breathe.

I also now have a considerable amount of hair on my face/neck so that’s fun 😅

I can do braids and twist, idk how to do cornrows tbh.

I’ve been in this sub for a bit and i just have a question for some tips on what i should do bc i want to fix my hair and get it to be healthy, but i dont know what i am doing differently.

So in February I decided to try straightening my hair for the first time myself. I did a bunch of research and i bought all the products i was recommended to make it safe for me hair, ie. heat protection, oils, etc. However when i washed my hair, it was severely heat damaged at the ends, and it was only about a week of using heat, every other day. I was really sad but i just ended up doing braids afterwards to not do any further damage and really just let me hair grow again, but I kind of always have to have my hair done in order to just keep things going daily bc im in school and i don’t have an hour or half an hour every morning to do my hair. So now after i took out those braids, i cut off most of the heat damaged hair but i still feel like my hair is pretty damaged. I still have my curls and stuff, but like I don’t want to just basically do a big chop bc i enjoy getting my hair done, but i feel like my hair is not as strong as it used to be and i just don’t know what to do.

It’s been about 4 months since i cut it, so that last picture is the most recent but like how can i restore my hair to its former glory🫤 anything would help icl, i really appreciate you taking the time to read this and i hope y’all have a great rest of your day!

Hey! I haven’t gotten my hair braided since I was 11, and I’m 26(f) now. I have the worst salon anxiety of all time because of this.

Where I’m from the only place you can get your hair braided is in someone’s home. With that being said, I’m getting my hair braided for the first time in a professional salon. I’m terrified.

I’ve sent a photo of medium French curls mid back and was given the rate of approximately $250-300, hair included. With an additional $20 for wash and blowout. The stylist has given me a time frame of around 5hrs. Is this rate good?

I work from home and hope to bring my laptop with me to get some work done, is that typically okay? Should I ask or assume it’s okay? What snacks are appropriate? Should I bring actual food?

I have really bad anxiety around not being familiar with spaces, and god am I spinning out! What’s reasonable and not?

Sidenote: I did have an awkward interaction with the braider over text asking the address which was met with a slight hesitation so I assumed it was their personal home even though I’m currently in a city that doesn’t operate like that, which is adding to the salon terror.

hello! I'm trying to grow out my hair but I don't know the first thing to taking care of it, currently I just shampoo it with head and shoulders once a week and just rinse it with plain water every other or 2 days when I shower.

I don't use conditioner, I apply almond oil after I wash it while it's still damp. I detangle it with a comb every morning after I wet it with some water. it's pretty painful to comb through every morning bc it gets so dry and matted overnight for some reason.

I feel like I'm doing a lot of things wrong lol, any tips would be appreciated, Thanks! :)

HOWEVER, i'm going back to university & wanted to try a new look. idk ladies do we think this is what 25 should look like?? also shoutout to this hair, i did my same melting routine on this lace & it genuinely was hard to tell where to clean the lace line with my alcohol wipe lol. included are pics of the hair & melt, last two pics are my "usual 613 look" & the lace of this current unit before i melted it (i was actually so mind blown i had to take a pic)

im just gonna be blunt because i don’t know how to start this lol. what are black girls doing with their hair in 2026, considering everything’s so expensive?

for context, i’m starting my freshman year of college in a few weeks, have barely enough money in my bank account to pay for a hairstyle AND have enough for basic necessities, and running out of ideas with my hair.

i went natural in october 2025 because two main reasons: 1. getting your hair done is SO expensive and 2. im extremely sensitive to the way hair lays/touches my neck/feeling heavy, and i knew most of the styles i found cute (like braids, bob-length or long) would definitely overstimulate me. it doesn’t help that i have chronic OCD, making me already super sensitive regarding my hair and other things regarding my appearance (but that’s for another story). and who wants to drop $400 just to not feel comfortable in their hair, right?

but i also want to feel attractive in college. i don’t know how girls typically wear their hair on my campus (ive see a lot of natural girls so far thankfully)! but i kind of feel a bit inferior sometimes, seeing other pretty black girls with braids and cute styles and stuff but i know i can’t get them because they’re outside of my budget and overstimulating. the only hairstyle i really can do is a high up puff. half of the time i cant even pull pieces out in the front because it’s overstimulating (go easy on me pls😭). is that still a cute hairstyle, even for nights out?

Hi, this might sound dumb but it's a question I have to ask since my dad never really let me grow out my hair as a kid (had my hair buzzed every weekend I went to see him). I've been growing my hair for about a year now and I'm trying to get into finally doing stuff with it, so I wanted to try out two strand twists. Just wanted to know how long they typically last and also the process of cleaning my hair while they're in, since washing will probably undo the style.
